Holidy Inn SuperDome New Orleans

Just noticed a good rate of $136 (including tax) for the Holiday Inn SuperDome in New Orleans. This includes 8 days free parking. Usually, I stay in slidell for about $80 and then pay the $15 per day at the cruise terminal for parking.

I am looking for cheaper options and this hotel seems to offer the savings. How is the parking at this hotel, is it safe? Is the parking covered or is your care exposed in an open lot? New Orleans sometimes is not the safest city and I want to find the car there after the cruise.

How is the walking from the hotel to the French Quarter?

I haven't stayed there, but I'm familiar with the hotel. It is about six blocks from the French Quarter, on the western edge of the CBD. Walking would be no problem in the daytime, but it is pretty quiet at night, and you would feel more comfortable catching a cab.

There are about four levels of interior parking. I don't know if they have security, but you shouldn't have any problems with your car's safety.

It's a short (10 - 12 block) ride to the terminal.

I'm not sure when you are going, so it's hard to tell what the rates are at other hotels to compare. But, a lot of people on here recommended Drury Inn. I did a lot of research and ended up booking it the other day. It includes free hot breakfast and they also have a free dinner included with hot items and also free drinks (both alcohol and soda). I got a great deal for September for only 93.

I always do a search online for a discount coupon code and get great deals by doing that.

I don't know when you are going or what the other prices are but Fire and I stayed here when we went on the Triumph in December. She parked her car there and had no problems, it was a parking garage. We took the shuttle which was free to the port (tip for the driver) on cruise morning and the shuttle was available to us other times the day before. I walked to the quarter and then all over the quarter stopping at cafe du monde and other spots. The room was a nice clean room and price was right.

Tried getting a good rate for the Drury Inn for Oct 22nd. Using the code "Dream", the cheapest room was $189 not including tax. I also understand that they also charge for parking.

Thanks for the info. A fellow cruiser at work, has suggested that I don't stay there as it can be unsafe.

Oh ouch. That's a lot. I wonder why they are so much in October. It's not like it's a holiday or a busy season right? That's just crazy

Did not realize that the time that I cruise, Oct 23rd is during big convention time. It looks like I will booking a hotel outside N.O. Some hotels that I looked at were charging $249 to $300 per night. These types of rates are outside my budget.

OP, I thought I posted this, maybe not. We booked the Hampton Inn Garden District for around $120 for the night, it includes free breakfast and free parking for the duration of our cruise. It is a cruise special. You have to call the hotel to get it. Be sure you tell them you want the cruise special. We are going Nov 13, and that was the best deal I could find.

HI Superdome still beats the price for my dates so far. We're looking at 159 with taxes. Let me know if anyone knows any thing better. We need parking and room for Jan. 21st.

Do you know how the parking is at the Hampton Inn , garden district? Is it a secured open parking lot, attached to the hotel?

Could not find any additional parking info on their website. It does look like a nice hotel away from the noisy French Quarter. I guess it is safer in this are?

Sometimes looking for the cruise/park rate is like trying to find a needle in a haystack!

This hotel also has an online ability to book with STAY123 dot com. Looking at the direct website, rate for Dec 2 was 171. With Stay123 it was the cruise package with parking for 119. There is a $10 cancellation fee, though. Nov 25 was sold out.

Thanks for the info about stay123. Have been having problem finding a hotel for 10-22-11. The Holiday Inn site showed no room for HI superdome but when I went to stay123 was able to book for $119 + $17 tax for a total of $136. While they had mixed reviews at tripadvisor you can find that with anything/anywhere. Most of the reviews were either excellent or good.

For what it's worth, I booked the Holiday Inn Superdome for November 27th and got a rate of $110+tax which includes up to 8 days for parking. It was the cruise special and only found it by calling them direct as I'd exhausted all online searches. A couple going with us got a room without the cruise parking for $90+tax. After all the research into this, I'm pleased with this deal!

Does anyone know if the Superdome offers a shuttle to the French Quarter? Also how far it is from riverwalk and the trolley cars? I noticed on the website it said they offered a free shuttle to sights within 2 miles and just curious about anyones experience with this.

The shuttle will get you to/from French Quarters, the casino, river and such. Nice touch, we enjoyed having the option at night.

We have stayed there a couple times using stay123 and have been pleased with the covered parking and shuttle to the port. Doing it again in September and January. :) Drury just got to expensive and raised their parking too. :( But it is a nice place to stay and very pretty.

One thing to look for in NO is ball games. We always stay in the Marriott and if there is no game I usually get in for about $89. If there is a game on Sunday, the rate is usually about $350. Same for conventions or other big events. This year my cruise is on an off Sunday and I have the $89 rate. Parking is another story. No parking at the Marriott.

The weekend after Thanksgiving is the Bayou Classic at the Superdome - a game with Southern vs. Grambling. The game is during the day on Saturday, but there is a battle of the bands and other activities on Friday.

Personally I thought the French Quarter was more unsafe at night than anywhere else. As a single woman I walked from the hotel to the Quarter twice. They do have the shuttle but I didn't mind walking and exploring. No matter where you are you need to be aware of your area and what is going on. I found the hotel quite fine but of course, if you think it is unsafe you will be worried the whole time and it is not worth it then.

I would not walk from the Quarter to the Holiday Inn Superdome at night (or vice versa). It is not the area of the hotel, but where you would need to walk through (or next to), especially if you did not know the correct route. Use the shuttle or take a cab to go back to this hotel. In the Quarter, you should be fine if you stay on the main streets which should have a good bit of pedestrian traffic. I go to the Quarter about 10 times a year at night and I feel fine walking towards the river side (by Decatur St which is in front of the cathedral). I have always felt safe. When in doubt, ask your concierge or front desk clerks.

For those checking winter dates, keep in mind that besides the Saints and the Bayou Classic I mentioned in an earlier post, we have the New Orleans Bowl (which is a small bowl game) in mid-Dec, the Sugar Bowl, playoff games (hopefully) for the Saints and the BCS Championship - all in January. So book those rooms early. Since you don't know which college teams play in the bowl games, there is no way of predicting how easy or difficult reservations will be.

So, the shuttle will pick you up from the French Quarter, too? Or just take you there?
