kayjay76 Posted July 12, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 12, 2016 Hi everyone, Do we stay in Fort Lauderdale or near Miami airports? Details: Feb 2017 Flying into FLL night before (fri) cruise out of port of Miami (sat) traveling with at least 15 people, all adults. So here's what I need everyone's opinion who has done this in the past We're flying into FLL Friday night at 7pm and our cruise is Saturday and we'd like to be in port to be on ship as early as they allow. Should we: A. stay in hotel in Fort Lauderdale then shuttle to the port in the am or B. shuttle to a hotel Friday night and stay near Miami airport. The hotels close to port are too expensive for such a short stay so that's why we're looking near both airports for cheaper hotel rates (less than 50 pp) We're leaning towards staying the night in FL because we can prob get a free hotel shuttle from airport to hotel. So if we did that, what is the cheapest and best way to get to port of Miami early in the am on saturday? Any thought, suggestions on hotels, shuttle, uber etc would be great. Thank you!!! CruiserBruce Posted July 12, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 12, 2016 It is commonly discussed here that Ft Lauderdale is the cheaper of the two areas. To back this up, it is commonly recommended to shuttle from the Ft Lauderdale area to Miami. But, the later in the day you arrive, the fewer shuttles make that trip. So, another reason to stay in Ft Lauderdale. There are many shuttles commonly recommended here- SAS, QLS, Jiffy Jeff, GO Shuttle.
JohninDC Posted July 12, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 12, 2016 Stay near FLL - comparable hotels there are cheaper than in Miami, and the area near the MIA airport is bleak compared to FLL. Contact the popular shuttles - SAS, QLS, MJS & Go Airport, along with Larry's Limos and Holland Limo. Someone will make you a good deal to transport all of you to POM the morning of your cruise. http://www.sunny.org has lots of FLL area tourist and hotel info. eandj Posted July 12, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2016 Not sure what "early" to the port means to you. But arriving time will depend on the shuttle/car service for that run. They are busy with port pickups before 10. Know too the port is too congested with disembarking and pickups if you get there early. Plan on an 11:00 arrival. Jeremiah1212 Posted September 25, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 25, 2016 The FLL airport area will be cheaper and in a little more comfortable surroundings than MIA. If you're using any of the shared shuttle services, as previously said, the later you arrive into FLL, the harder it is to arrange one. However with a group of 10, I would contact one of the shuttle companies and see if you could reserve the entire van for yourself. One of the most common 'wants' people post about here is free shuttles and a free breakfast. Considering the overall cost of your trip and the relatively inexpensive cost for both of those things, don't limit your hotel search by those factors. BlueHerons Posted September 25, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 25, 2016 No way would I ever voluntarily stay anywhere near the Miami airport unless I had a 5AM flight.
