Infinity Hubbard glacier cruise - real time review

Hi folks, day 1 on Celebrity Infinity Hubbard glacier cruise.

Previous week spent in the Canadian Rockies, but that is a subject for another board.

Precruise stayed at the Hotel Blu on Robson St. for 1 night. They have a free guest laundry, which for us was great, as we had been a week and needed laundry done. Good location. Free shuttle to Canada place.

We were picked up at 10 AM at the hotel, and were on board at 11:18.

First time in a suite, and we are impressed. Eric Guzman, Michaels club concierge noticed us siting in line and having a blue folio came over and talked to us.

We explored the ship for a while with our boarding champagne, and ended up at luminae for lunch. Good lunch, suite ready around 1:15.

We are staying in the famous 6145 suite, which is very nice.

2 of our 3 bags showed up around 4 the other not until after sail away.

We grabbed some drinks at deck 11 for the sail away.

Decided to go to the 7 pm show, which was rock rhapsody, that played Queen songs. Pretty much sucked, so we left and had a great dinner in Luminae.

Let me know if there are any specifics on this cruise you want to know.

I'll report back tomorrow.

Hi folks, day 1 on Celebrity Infinity Hubbard glacier cruise.

Decided to go to the 7 pm show, which was rock rhapsody, that played Queen songs. Pretty much sucked, so we left and had a great dinner in Luminae.

We will be aboard Infinity in eight weeks, first time on Celebrity and first time in Alaska.

What was wrong with the show. Was it a tribute act? Not very good or not a fan of Queen?

Looking forward to reading your review.

Thank you for posting about your cruise on the Infinity. We'll be doing this same cruise in about five weeks. Will be subscribing. Do you have any excursions planned? Would enjoy hearing about those.

We just got off the Infinity and liked that show. My DD, 16, is a Queen fan, so we couldn't miss. It was not the first night show though, later in the week. We thought the entertainment was darn good. We are not cruisers usually, so we don't have much to reference. Enjoy, we did!

Love Queen, thought the show was a bit karaoke like.

Yesterday was at sea day, so spent time exploring the ship. Really enjoying Luminae and Michael's Club. Service is fantastic. Smoked Tomato soup is so yummy!

Saw MickeyLive give a talk on wildlife. He is really knowledgeable and a good speaker. We have booked a whale watching trip for Icy Strait point today. However, as we sail there, the dog is pretty thick and the foghorn is being sounded every minute. Hopefully the rain and fog wil lift.

Played some bingo. We aren't much into Bingo, but it actually was a lot of fun. Nacho was the boat and he was pretty funny.

Did the galley tour, a bit packed but interesting.

Met the Captain and senior crew at Michael's. Had good conversation with the Captain about the new locks on the Panama Canal.

Hit Casino after dinner. Played craps for a while. $10 minimum is a bit rough if you aren't winning. Moved over to the 3 card poker table and won big. Back.to the crapd table and threw it all back!!

As far as other excursions, we have Island Wings float plane in Ketchikan booked, nothing in Juneau yet.

So excited to follow this. We'll be on this sailing in 2 weeks in suite 6146 (same room, port side). We also have whale watching scheduled in Icy Straight Point and island wings float plane in Ketchikan. Can't wait to hear about it all.

Stephanie, you will love the room. We do hear the piano from the penthouse suite, but they only use it in the early evening. 6146 is on starboard side.

We did see some whales yesterday while having a beer in Michael's club.

Roberto in Luminae is a great waiter.

Stephanie, it depends on when you go. There is a row of 2 tops, maybe 8 or 9 next to the windows.

We have gotten a window every time, except once, and when a window opened up, the moved our plates to that table!!

Oops, misread your question, you are correct, one table at window in Michael's. We have been lucky to get it every time.

Thanks. Turns out I'm in room 6145-I don't know why I had it swapped. I hope we're as lucky in Michaels. Last cruise we had the drink package so we never went but this time I think we will be using it. I hope the fog cleared for you and you were able to go whale watching!

Hoonah was fun, although short. We walked around for a while. There is an eagles nest with eaglets across from the hoonah school. (Big red building). It was feeding time, so that was cool. We did the whale watch, and saw humpbacks, porpoises and eagles. However, this was on a fairly large boat, and full of loud pushy people. I would recommend going with a small boat.

We ate at the.office bar, while rustic, pretty good Dungeness crab.

Today was Hubbard glacier, and my oh my, what a sight. It was a beautiful sunny day and the glacier did not disappoint. We saw quite a few calving ebmts and very impressive. The.sound was like thunder.

The bow was packed, so we watched from our balcony, and it was.spectacular.

Also the view off the port side heading down to Juneau was really nice.

Last month at Hubbard Glacier, we watched from deck 4 while the viewing area on the helipad was 9 people deep at the railings. After we were there for a while, they made the announcement that the ship was about to do the spin and that those on the back of the boar would now be facing the glacier.

Being already at the back would be a good move, or what we did was wait for all the people on the helipad to leave to watch elsewhere and then we entered the very uncrowded helipad.

I imagined the decks would be packed. In the hope of a good view, does the ship do one full turn in the four hours there.

At least one, sometimes more than one depending on timing. There are often other ships they need to share time with.

Do you remember the timeframe you were at Hubbard Glacier...morning, afternoon? Also range of temperatures? Thanks

We were at Hubbard in the morning and it was sunny, but chilly. We had cabin 8181 aft with an almost 180 view. We sat and watched from our veranda. The kids had their cameras on tripods so they could capture the calving. Ordered room service and enjoyed the view. Our itinerary was a little different. We didSitka and not Hoonah.
