Bonnie, Do you know if there is a shuttle from White Bay into the city centre?

Thanks!!

Last year it was a very limited service on the ferry - the evening service was non existent also there were no taxis waiting around for pick ups so going into the Rocks in the evening proved to be impossible :(

Larger cruise ships cannot go under the Sydney Harbour bridge and are therefore allocated docking at the Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT) at Circular Quay, east of the bridge and adjacent to the historic Rocks area. It is also a quite easy walk into the CBD. During the peak cruise season (Australian summer), the one berth at OPT is in heavy demand which means smaller cruise ships like Azamara are allocated docks at White Bay Cruise Terminal (WB). WB is west of the Harbour Bridge and is not a popular choice of cruise passengers. There are virtually no shops, restaurants, hotels nearby and a shuttle, ferry or taxi is required for the short journey into Sydney CBD or Rocks area.

I understand larger ships sometimes need to tender in Sydney Harbour if OTC berth is occupied by another larger ship. Not an ideal situation and one Cruise lines and the NSW authorities are looking at.

We far prefer our cruises to begin or end at OPT.

Berths are allocated by the local Port Authorities and cruise lines have little input into choice of dock. We have docked in some wonderful ports around the world, whilst others have been very ordinary (industrial area or far from city centre)

It's the luck of the draw I guess.

Could you please confirm whether or not Azamara is providing a free shuttle from White Bay to Sydney CBD on 20th Feb.

Hello chami10,

As I posted above, in post #7, there usually is a complimentary shuttle from the ship. But as stated, this is up to the ship personnel so it is not my place to confirm definitively.

Enjoy the cruise! I wish I could visit Australia and New Zealand this year!

Bonnie
