air to port time

The airport to the pier is about 30 minutes. Quick and easy by cab. As long as your flight is on time with no delays you'll be on board early enough to grab lunch.

Be sure to have a back up plan just in case.

Thank You Rick, what would you suggest for a back up plan?

fly in a day earlier....and that should be your "plan A". If your flight is delayed a long time or even cancelled you might not make it to BCN until after the ship leaves then you will have to find your way to its next port of call to board. Depending on what your departure point is there might only be 1 flight to BCN per day and if that one is delayed.........

If you can fly in a day earlier to ensure you have no issues and to help you deal with jetlag(as TruckerDave suggests), but if that's not possible:

1) Research all flight options to get you to Barcelona on time in case any leg of your flight is cancelled or delayed (you don't mention if it's a non-stop or has a connection). We missed our connection in Frankfurt a couple years ago but had a list of suitable backup flights that got us to the ship on time.

2) Research how to get to the ships first port of call. If you happen to miss the ship then see how easy/difficult it is (this may also come into play if you decide to fly in a day early). Last year our first port of call was about 125 kms down the coast and easy to reach by train so we flew is same day.

I am not sure where you are flying from.

I would not fly in the day of the cruise.

You will have to be on board 90 minutes prior to arrival.

When you arrive you have to claim luggage and go through immigration.

You have to get to the ship. By the way there are two piers.

If there is a problem with your flight, it is very doubtful, you would be able to get any alternative flight that would get you to the ship in time. So, your "back up" plan needs to be, what is available to get you to the next port.

Alternatively, get a flight that gets you there earlier. You're down to the wire with what you got.

We arrived into BCN day of cruise (from a west coast LAX flight connecting thru ATL) at approx 9:30am and were on the ship by noon....but our sailout time was 8:30pm. I too would try to do an earlier arrival flight time.
