I would definitely recommend the National Gallery of Victoria if you're into Museums. The Shrine of Remembrance is well worth a visit. And if you have time and can work it out, a tour of Parliament House is great, and kind of unusual.

I second visiting the zoo. Wandering around the lane-ways and arcades in the Melbourne CBD is always fun. There is a self-guided walking our of Melbourne that's worth it -- you can pick up information at the tourist information center at Federation Square.

Hi Fletch,

Wonder if I can ask you for advice??

We will be in Melbourne from Radiance for 1 day in March.

We're doing the ship's tour on Puffing Billy in the morning.

We'll get back to the ship at 12:45pm.

We would like to see some of the city as well. I'm nervous though about getting back, getting the tram/bus, and then doing the City Circle Tram. And then getting back to the ship by 5 (we sail at 6).

How long does the City Circle take if you don't get off?

I've heard that the commentary is a little hard to hear and that it will be very busy in the afternoon.

Do you think we would have time to get off at Queen Victoria Market &/or Shrine of Remembrance?

Would it be best for us to try to hire a tour company?

Thanks for any help!

Chris

We took the city circle tram from outside the train station and went clockwise. Got off for the Queen Vic market - I think it took about 30 mins but I can't remember. The market is great and we enjoyed it. If you don't have enough time to finish the loop just get on another tram that takes you back to Fed Square which is also free. All teams are free in the city area I think.

I am on the diamond princess arriving on Good Friday March 25 2016. I would love any information on what would be open and what trams and buses operate from the pier on Good Friday. Any information would be appreciated on what is available to do on your own on Good Friday. Do the shops open at all? Etc. thank you

What did any of you do and would you recommend it?

So much to do and see but for me the highlights were visiting the Botanic Gardens and the Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance...
