Tipping practice for private hire transfers

Just wondering what the tipping practice is for private hire transfers like Smith's and similar companies? We've obtained fixed rate quotes for transfers between London and Southampton from some of these companies. Thanks!

I would be interested in some advice on this topic as well.

Tip whatever you're comfortable with but they prefer tips in GBP cash IME.

We've always tipped 20-30% in GBP (cash).

Tipping at 20% or above is absurd.

In Britain tipping on top of a fixed pre-paid or agreed fee would not be expected except for something exceptional, you do not tip for just doing your job. All British drivers are fully paid a salary and do not rely on a tip to cover costs. Even in London in a black cab simply rounding up is enough. I used cabs yesterday where the fare was a whole pound amount and no tip was expected or offered.

The only time tips are found is where an American accent is heard , which creates an expectation of silly tipping. They see and hear you coming!!

From London to Southampton in a pre booked car I would leave GBP5 and no more, but it's not necessary.

20-30% is just insane. The recipient must have thought all their birthdays had come at once.

We usually give mini-cab drivers ten per cent as a tip, unless there have been problems. Some British people always tip taxi drivers, some don't.

Tip is not required. I'm from Ireland & I would never tip a driver.
