losercruiser Posted May 14, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2016 Hi, Can anyone help with info on transportation from colon to panama city? Other than the ship transfer, are there any other reliable/safe modes of transportation - Taxi, train, etc and approximate cost? Thank you. Strenz Posted May 14, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 14, 2016 We took the ship's bus to Panama City and had a most enjoyable trip, they even did a tour on the way there. It was great. I priced it out for two and a cab ride the price was about the same and the bus dropped us off at our hotel which was different than the WS hotel. It is a great trip. Enjoy. milepig Posted May 15, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 15, 2016 Just to careful to not book the same tour twice. Coming into Balboa we booked the Miraflores Locks and Old Balboa tour, and then later booked the Colon to Panama City transfer (airport for us) called something like "old and new city". This included a very nice walk through of ruins followed by the exact same tour of Old Balboa. Both were fine by themselves, but with a double dose of Old Balboa. Lvwindstar007 Posted May 15, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 15, 2016 We arrived on a Sunday with very limited transportation choices. We took a taxi to the Balboa area which cost about $100. (This was on the Wind Spirit a few years ago on the way to Tahiti, without us.) We were not interested in the ship's tour which would have dropped us at their downtown hotel or the airport. Also we have toured PC many times before.
Ski Mom 2 Posted May 16, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 16, 2016 We actually had to get from Panama City to Colon two years ago when we did our Panama Cruise on the Wind Star. The boutique hotel we stayed in hired a driver for the four of us. He was very knowledgable (he was originally from Panama and had worked for the US Army at the canal for many years. It was less expensive for the four of us than if we had done the WS transfer. Perhaps you can find a taxi to do the same thing?
