sunshine nana Posted June 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 25, 2014 I got a new Celebrity credit card and received $100 in rewards after using it once and WAS planning to pay our final payment with it this week. Then I read all the fine print after clicking on the icon on the Celebrity page. It said that rewards could NOT be given if we had received any special booking price such as military etc. Doesn't everyone on CC get something special? I quickly switched and used another credit card since we had gotten a "special" price. Is the card useless? What about 123? We have that on our cruise next spring.Does that mean we won't be able to get any reward? If that is true, I might as well cancel the card. Please respond if you have been able to use the rewards. Thanks
wallie5446 Posted June 25, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 25, 2014 (edited) Something has to be ah-miss. We have always used our RCCL Visa for final then cashed in the points for OBC. Edited June 25, 2014 by wallie5446
GaryfmCol Posted June 25, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 25, 2014 Something is not correct. I have booked and, paid for every cruise with R.C.C.L. or, Celebrity, on my R.C.C.L. credit card, and, recently passed over the 100,000 point level. And, used it for my cruise sail charges. (All double points) (And, have used military booking once.) I cashed in 100,000 points, and, got a great $1,000.00 credit to our January 2015 cruise. It took us 60 months (limit) to get to the (over) 100,000 point mark, but, we made it.. ;) Sail on...

sunshine nana Posted June 25, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted June 25, 2014 Thanks for the replies. Has anyone else read all the fine print? I will call customer service today and try to get the rewards added as OBC. I will get the same number of points from my other credit card as I would have for the Celebrity card, so I am not out anything. I will report back on my conversation with customer service. Thanks It's the "etc." that's really important. Perks are not the same as discounts. There may be some discount programs that disallow the Credit card OBC perk such as deeply discounted or military or resident, I am not SURE, but without seeing the rest (and entire) terms and conditions you are referring to, it;'s not possible to accurately answer. But as I understand it the Credit Card OBC is allowed 100% of the time. It's not a Celebrity granted perk, but a Credit Card Company (FIA Card Services, N.A.) granted perk, just like when a Travel agent gifts OBC, it has no relationship whatsoever to the reservation's terms and conditions. http://www.celebritycruises.com/media/en_US/pdf/credit_card/Program-Rules-Celebrity-Tribranded-Program-Rules-NO-FEE-May-2014.pdf
Rare cruisestitch Posted June 25, 2014 #8 Share Posted June 25, 2014 I have ordered BOA rewards OBC in every cruise since I got the card's first sign-up bonus points. Each cruise had some dirt of special promotion booking, some hd been booked on board, with that offer's concurrent OBC, all had at least a one-category upgrade, one had Shareholder OBC. No problem getting the BOA rewards OBC on any of the cruises.
sunshine nana Posted June 25, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted June 25, 2014 Thanks again for the new replies. I called the customer service number on the back of the card and the first woman did not know if I could use the points on a discounted price,so she passed to a second woman who also did not know. She then connected me to Celebrity and I was on the dreaded "hold" for 10 more minutes with no once picking up the phone. I gave up after 25 total minutes, no answer to my question. I will use what points I have for OBC, but not use the card for many more purchases if I cannot get an answer. After our next cruise, the card will be canceled for lack of customer service. Too bad for Celebrity because I'm sure they would rather have me pay them for my cruises with their card than pay the fee to my other card. WestLakeGirl Posted June 25, 2014 #10 Share Posted June 25, 2014 (edited) I think you have been calling the wrong department, that's why nobody can help. You need to call Captains Club. Listen to the prompt, one of the choices is "if you are calling to redeem rewards, press......" That should get you to someone who can actually help. Don't make a snap decision, talk to the CSR ar Captain's Club., not to Bank of America or their number on the back of the card. gracecarmo Posted June 26, 2014 #13 Share Posted June 26, 2014 I always take the cash option instead of OBC. Once we did not use all OBC, and to get our cash from casino had to give a percentage to X.
Rare cruisestitch Posted June 26, 2014 #14 Share Posted June 26, 2014 I haven't found a "cash back" option with this card so can you point me to that please?
WestLakeGirl Posted June 27, 2014 #15 Share Posted June 27, 2014 What is the cash option?
cle-guy Posted June 27, 2014 #16 Share Posted June 27, 2014 What is the cash option? You take the OBC to your account from the card company, then take it out in casino, they charge 5% to take a cash out.
WestLakeGirl Posted June 27, 2014 #17 Share Posted June 27, 2014 I don't think so, from the way I read it she takes the cash option INSTEAD of OBC. Whats the "cash option"? Other posters mentioned putting the reward cash into the bank (not in this thread) so it seems like maybe they have found a cash back option? Do you have a reference to another thread....I'm a self admitted "miles whore" and always looking for ways to game the system. :D As of May 2014 the current program rules certainly don't note any cash back options on the Cleebrity card though one can use the casino cash out option of course. http://www.celebritycruises.com/media/en_US/pdf/credit_card/Program-Rules-Celebrity-Tribranded-Program-Rules-NO-FEE-May-2014.pdf

cle-guy Posted June 27, 2014 #20 Share Posted June 27, 2014 Oooooh it's not a celebrity branded card, BOA doesn't run the Celebrity program. That poster just uses another miles earning card (this one a BOA card) with a csh back option like Discover has. Much like I use amex and use those points as the Amex program allows. WestLakeGirl Posted June 27, 2014 #21 Share Posted June 27, 2014 That's what I was wondering, if its just some other BOA Rewards card not associated with Celebrity, so no double points for Celebrity purchases, but a cash back option CelebritY BOA doesn't offer. is that how you read it? Celebrity's card is ran by another bank, NOT BOA. But yes, that's my understandings as you say. I think they have some card offered by BOA that may give double points on travel spend and their rewards chart lets you take rewards out in cash or as a statement credit. I have a card that gives triple points on utility bills, double on gas and groceries for example. Another with double on all travel costs.... There are so many affinity cards with multiple earning options, it's hard to keep up!

My apologies. The rewards info sheet says its offered by FIA Card Services, N.A. with no mention of BOA is what I was going from. http://www.celebritycruises.com/media/en_US/pdf/credit_card/Program-Rules-Celebrity-Tribranded-Program-Rules-NO-FEE-May-2014.pdf Thanks for the correction though!
