Roatan beach day

We are cruising on the Carnival Glory in early June. We were wanting to have a fun beach day while in Roatan. We will have 2 older teens with us. We were hoping to find a beach that isn't just packed to capacity, which may be hard to do since it will be June. We are not big on booking excursions through the boat. We were actually looking at Maya key or Tabyana beach? Would like to be able to enjoy the beach, get something local to eat and maybe have a few activities (snorkeling, etc) if we get tired of laying on the beach. We normally stay pretty active but thought this might be a good port to do a little relaxing. Any suggestions on beaches or who to book through would be appreciated. Also, do you have to book an excursion or can you just hire a cab and have a good day on your own? Anything to be cautious of???

Our favorite port by FAR .Google victor bodden Roatan. We have used him maybe 5 or 6 times and you'll love it.They cater a day to what you like and want to do.We book the best of Roatan tour.Do yourself a favor even if you don't use victor leave the port area it's such a wonderful country

We love West bay beach ,great snorkeling in waist high water. You may like the West end too It's a little dive community with stores and food .That's the thing about his tours he takes you to places locals know about

Although there is a free beach where you dock, the port area is nice but the beach is just so-so. Do yourself a big favor and get outside of the port area and head over to West Bay Beach. Carnival has the excursion to there called Tabyana Beach but it depends on how many ships are at Coxen Hole port and Mahogany Port on how croweded it will be. Bananarama has round-trip transportation for around $30 that included beach access and a beach chair/drink. Our favorite thing to do is go with Rony Tours (or Victor Bodden) and do a private tour ($100 for the 4 of us - all day) and head over to West Bay Beach and West End Village. Can get a day pass at any of the beach resorts there at places like Bananarama ($10 pp), Inifnity Bay ($25), Fosters, etc.

If you want to snorkel, I can highly recommend Radical Adventures. The sail on the catamaran is great and they make one or two stops for snorkeling (we had two stops). The lunch, freshly prepared on board the boat, is delicious and there's plenty of sodas for the teens and beers and pina coladas for the adults. The owners and their crew could not be more welcoming! This excursion was one of the highlights of our cruise.

Maya Key is a ship excursion. Okay if you like animals. beach is soso. some iron shore for snorkeling but not a good as in West Bay (where Tabayana is). If you just want a beach and a place to snorkel, you can contact either Beachers or Bananarama. Both in West Bay, both provide transportation from MBCC included in the price. Both have food and drink. Directly across the road from Bananarama is Celelste's which has baleadas, local empanadas, filled with a variety of different fillings. Very local. Fresh fish and lobster too. Beachers is a short walk to Bite on the Beach a good localish food restaurant with a deck over looking the water.
