Oasis 3 & 4 vs. Quantum & anthem

Recommended Posts

When I reference to smaller size, I had read in a Post that discussed how the ship was smaller in comparison to the Freedom class. Something about how the ship couldn't have a royal promenade and the number of pools on the ship has decreased.

That is simply because of the design. There are many things on the top deck that are taking up a lot of room, for example, the huge SeaPlex and the North Star.

Well the Quantum class is bigger than the Freedom class. Do you remember what thread that post was in? I'd like to check it out.

The Quantum is larger than Freedom class yet smaller than Oasis.

Freedom stats.

Type: Cruise ship

Tonnage: 154,407 gross tonnage (GT)

Length: 1,111 ft 6 in (338.8 m)

Beam: 126 ft 8 in (38.6 m) at waterline

183 ft 8 in (56.0 m) bridge wings

Height: 209 ft (63.7 m) above water line

Draft: 28 ft (8.5 m)

Decks: 18 total, 15 passenger

Capacity: 4,370 passengers (double occupancy)

Crew: 1,300 (average)

Quantum stats

Type: Cruise ship

Tonnage: 168,666 GT[2]

Length: 348 m (1,142 ft)[3]

Beam: 41 m (135 ft)[3]

Draught: 8.5 m (28 ft)[2]

Decks: 18[4] (16 passenger-accessible)[2]

Capacity:

4,180 passengers (double occupancy)[2]

4,905 passengers (maximum occupancy)[2]

Stats are helpful for comparison if the ships are of a similar design.

In this case (Freedom vs Quantum) we have two different designs intended for different type of cruises., i.e. bigger in GT not necessarily means more useful space.

Can be the opposite.

Example.

One more deck of cabins is added to the design A.

Design A now has more GT (cabins are also GT) but the same public spaces.

Result: the ship is larger (measured in GT) but is less spacious (more pax per sq. in.)

***

RCI Freedom class capacity is about 3,650 - double occupancy.

Missed that inaccuracy on the freedom. I just copied Wikipedia. The 4375 is max occupancy.

Since I was providing references to the poster who said Quantum was smaller that freedom class I simply provided quantitative figures. Length, width and GT in which case the Quantum is larger. Whether or not she feels smaller based on how well laid out she is vs the number of passengers that remains to be seen. With regards to useful space she also does not have the 3 story tall promenade as does the Freedom that is essentially wasted space.
