Well, I've always said A.M.A. (separate letters), but recently I was watching some show about river cruising and they said (something that sounded like) ahh-maw. I've never thought that it was one word.

The website says AmaWaterways. And the ships are AmaDagio, AmaCello, so I guess I've been wrong.

I've always said "A.M.A." and assumed it was that.

The ships names are pronouned as one word Amadagio, Amacerto and Amalegro. If you look at the videos they have posted on their website their staff pronounce the cruise lines name as aww-maw.

It is definitely pronounced Ahma and not A.M.A.

But for those of us with a titch of Scottish blood.... it could be "Ach a mae":D

Sounds like kitty's coughing up a hairball.....I'm Dutch, so I can say that!!!:D

It's "ah mah" as in the German way of pronouncing it. Watch their videos and you'll see. It sounds like "Amadeus". They used to go solely by the company name, "Amadeus" then shortened it to Ama.

I've never heard it talked about, only read the brochures, until a recent TV show mentioned them. So my little brain just read it as initials, not a word.

I think because the first three letters are all in cape makes it confusing. I always say A M A waterways. 😉.
