Mariott time share from cruise terminal

We will be in Aruba on a cruise. We will only have four hours. We have many other things planned for other days (beach, snorkel, sailing). We own a Marriott timeshare and have consider trading into the Marriott Surf Club in Aruba.

Does anyone know the distance from the cruise terminal to the Marriott Surf Club timeshare? I thought it might be an opportunity for us to go look around a bit maybe have lunch and then come back to the ship. Can this be done easily within a couple hours? I assume we would need a taxi. Are taxis readily available at the port and also at the timeshare?

A taxi will take about 20 minutes or so. The Surf Club is great. Many, many people love it. I've never stayed there, but have been by there many times. People rave about it's lazy river. There are vendors right there where you can rent chairs and umbrellas, and there are lots of places to eat. You can easily do this with just a few hours. They can call you a taxi when you are ready to leave. Just make sure that you leave in plenty of time to get back to the ship. Traffic gets heavy in the afternoons. You can take the bus back, but I don't recommend it in your situation, because it will take a lot longer. Have fun!

Is this better area to rent chairs that the other pier area. We have been there many years ago but there were never people renting chairs that did not stay at the hotel.

I'm guessing that you mean by other pier, that you mean the one up by the Hilton, formerly the Radisson, in Palm Beach. I'm not sure how many vendors are around Surf Club. I know there is one or two, and there is also a vendor next door, at Moomba, near the Holiday Inn. I think that there are several near the Hilton. Arubalisa has stayed in this area. I always stay on Eagle Beach, but spend some time each trip visiting the Palm Beach area. Hopefully, she'll be able to give you more information.

You would be better off down near De Palm Pier. There are 3 vendors there. Note that the resort pictured below, the Radisson Aruba Resort & Casino is now a Hilton. All else is the same.

LOTS of info at Beaches in Aruba

Most specifically

All taxi fares listed below include the $3 surcharge for pickups/drop offs within the gates of the cruise terminal. Fares are for a maximum of 5 people, with an additional $3 charge on Sundays & holidays. If you do not wish to pay the surcharge, walk the short distance to the Renaissance Resort Marina tower and catch a taxi from their lobby.

The price for an umbrella and 2 chaise lounges rented from over 4 vendors I questioned was a flat $45.

Palm Beach

Taxi fare $14 each way

Various vendors along the beach renting chaises and umbrellas. Most centrally located to food, beverage and bathroom are those at the foot of De Palm Pier. Use the alley from the street out to the beach which runs between the Hilton and Riu.

Ask to be dropped off at the entrance to De Palm Pier- long red line extending from the street to beach in picture below. Take the walkway from the street out towards the beach. On the right hand side there are 2 vendors- see location in picture below- who rent chaises and umbrellas. There is also another vendor (December '14) in the middle of the Hilton's beach. Bugaloe Bar and Grill is at the end of the pier. There are also hotel beachside restaurants at the Hilton and Hyatt.

When you are ready to depart simply walk through the Hilton property and out to their lobby where there should be taxis waiting outside. If not the bellman will call one for you.

Also between the Holiday Inn and Marriott Surf Club is

MoomBa Beach

Beach chairs

Float rentals

Restrooms

Free wifi

Beach service

Kitchen open 8 am to 11 pm[/color]

Some Aruba Timeshares include a provision in their ownership documents which allow Timeshare owners to use the facilities of the Resort at any time that they are on the Island.

I don't believe that Marriott offers that option elsewhere, but occasionally a manager will match local customs.

Right, but the person who asked about day passes is not the same person who owns a Marriott timeshare somewhere else.

Thanks everyone

I decided to hire a driver to take my wife and I on a three hour private driver tour of the island who will take us wherever we want to go - including a stop at the Marriot Surf Clubs.

I realized that the Timeshare is on the way to the lighthouse and you also pass by the bird Sanctuary. So we will get a guided tour, see a few things, and still have the opportunity to check out the Marriott. We have no desire to swim or do anything else there (well, maybe if the casino is open...) but we just want to look around and check it out for a possible future vacation. Between Half Moon Cay and a snorkel trip in Curacao, we will get plenty of beach time in.

For $135, seems like a good way to sample the island.
