Picture-A-Week 2013 - Week 25

Photos taken from Monday June 17, 2013 to Sunday June 23, 2013.

Got to spend some time outside this afternoon.

Could not get the baby woodpecker and papa feeding to both stay still at the same time.

Posting these especially for Dave Pierce. Took these shots of an incredible piece made from a single piece of wood at the San Diego County Fair. So, not really Week 25!

Also from yesterday -- the rains from Sunday make the lilies really droop

We used to have lilies like that in our yard when we lived in Michigan. Don't think they'd grow very well here in the desert. Darn.

We were outside late yesterday when we heard a familiar bird cry. a Swallow-tail Kite was circling overhead ! A quick camera grab and a lens change later I caught these:

250 mm @ 1/2000

As it flew ever higher , it seemed to be flying to the moon.

90 mm 1/1000 with a major enlargement

We used to have lilies like that in our yard when we lived in Michigan. Don't think they'd grow very well here in the desert. Darn.

Hopefully some of my special lilies will soon be blooming.

I love impatients and last year a milky sport virus hit them and we lost them. Thousands of us now have contaminated soil and it will be at least 5 more years before we can grow them again.
