I have tentatively settled on Saturday May 26, 2018 Star Princess, NB Vancouver to Whittier. This sailing goes to College Fjord but the time is from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Will it be dark then to see the glacier? Seems like very bad timing to be here.

We will rent a car and drive to Denali and Kenai Peninsula from June 2-9.

Alaska is very far north.

Sunset is around 9:45 pm and by 11, it may be dark. The longest day is June 21st and the Alaskans often golf at midnight during that time :)

You will have a ton of sunlight on your trip, no worries. Biggest issue is making sure your room stays dark so you can sleep through the light!

Fewer children? Go when school is in session. I agree that the cost of an Alaskan cruise is high, no matter what cruise line you sail with. But I scoff at the thought of Glacier Bay not being worth it.

Lets change the whole idea of a cruise-

Carnival in September

Last north American cruise of the season

very few children, I guess they were there, but they were not a problem

Carnival-spent a whole day in Glacier Bay

saw the following

grizzly bears

eagles

seals

otters

orcas

mountain goats

dolphins

and because it was later in the season, one of the glaciers inlets had finally thawed enough for our ship to get in to the channel, so we were the first ship in to see a particular glacier in over two years. best cruise day in my life.!

think Oceania if you are looking for the least amount of kids. but also think later in the season after Labor day.

I hope you have a great cruise.

Which of these 3 lines will have the best opportunities for glacier viewing?

HAL & Princess both go to Glacier Bay - guaranteed glacier viewing.

My last HAL cruise to AK had very few children. I remember seeing a dozen at most. (My son included, so I checked out the kids club & paid attention to what the kids were & were not doing.)

There were only 4 children on our Oceania last summer. This may be changing though. They are now offering a kids travel free program for Alaska.
