Nice thought but I doubt you'll be able to put a float in the water. How old is your daughter?

my daughter is 3 1/2 and the water is to deep, she is potty trained so I dont need a lecture on having her in the pool etc, If the pool is crowded, I wouldnt bring a float in, I thought on days it is less crowded....if anyone can answer the question that would be appreciated...I wouldnt bring her in a hot tub anyway...thanks for your concern

A float in a Princess ship pool- that is a social no- no!!! You are not at your neighbors house.

FYI- the pool water can be very, very rough with it going back and forth and back and forth on sea days. Sometimes it is not even safe for adults. Even as you said if the pool is not crowded- maybe on port days- I have been on more than 30 cruises and Have never seen that before and it is hard to get out of the pool even on port days. I am a great swimmer also. The steps are very hard to climb out of. Hope this helps.

IMHO Suzanne, you should review these guidelines from the Princess website. Following these guidelines will make your cruise as well as everybody else on board a pleasant one.

TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN

Children over six (6) months of age at the date of sailing will be accepted on the following itineraries: Alaska, Canada & New England, Caribbean, Europe, Mexico, Transcanal and Australia & New Zealand (coastal cruise only). Only children over the age of one (1) year at the date of sailing will be accepted for the following itineraries: Africa, South America, South Pacific, Hawaii & Tahiti, world cruises including Asia, Antarctica, Indian subcontinent, Transatlantic and Transpacific cruises.

For those who are traveling with children, please note:

1) Entry into the disco after 11 p.m. is limited to passengers 18 and over. Be sure to check with the Youth and Teen Centers for special disco events designed for kids and teens. Children under the age of 18 are welcome in the jacuzzi unless otherwise specified, and in the evening entertainment show lounges, but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

2) In line with domestic U.S. age limits, as well as our company policy, the casino, cash prize bingo and horse racing are reserved for passengers 21 years and older. Additionally, only those passengers 21 years and older will be allowed to purchase or consume alcohol. For those whose age is questionable, picture identification may be requested.

Tell that to the people who shouldn't be wearing a bikini!!!

IMHO....if you need a pump to blow up your float, it's too big for the pool.:D

And don't they have a kiddie pool? If the pool is too deep for a 3 1/2 year old, I'd be leary of bringing her in.

Fletch, have you seen the kiddie pool?

All kidding aside people, how hard is it to answer a question? If you can't answer, then why bother commenting just to see your name in lights.

Must be pretty hard...you posted 3 times here and still didn't answer the question either. Talk about seeing your name in lights.

Hi, Suzanne:

I've never seen a float in the pool--I don't know if that's because they aren't allowed or because people consider it too much trouble. I'm guessing it's that they are probably not allowed. If that's the case, I doubt you'd find a pump on board. Have you considered taking a small inner tube instead? You could see how crowded the pool is and determine whether it's appropriate to use it. Another option would be a swimsuit with a life vest built in--my daughter had one of those when she was small and loved it!

I hope you and your family have a wonderful cruise! Our DD was 21 months on her first cruise (and no, she didn't go into any of the pools as she wasn't potty trained, she was never in one of the hot tubs, and didn't venture into the casino or any other adult-only venue!). And, we had a GREAT cruise! Seems people are making a lot of assumptions based on one innocent question! Wow!

Cheers!

Jayne

comment on kiddie pools:

On the Star, the kiddie pool was fully covered, it got no sunlight. The water was ICE cold.

On the Spirit, the kiddie pool was about 6 inches deep. The waterslide (which looks great in photos) was almost never used because it also has VERY cold water.

To answer OP question:

I would just bring a float device that you feel you can blow up by mouth. Have a wonderful cruise!

I will say this, when we were in st thomas and in st maarten, there was a young girl maybe 18 watching two little kids (wife and I thought she may have been the nany) and there wasn't a soul at the pool except for them and they both had floats...but like I said no one one was around....we were just happen to be walking through both days to take pictures...so if you are able to get that kind of alone time with your child, I am sure no one will say a word about a small float.. Sorry I don't have an answer about a air pump...you could always pack a small basketball air pump and that should work?/?

Enjoy your cruise

FLVOL77....thanks that was what I thought, some days when the ship is in port the pool is virtually empty. the float is the size of a very small inner tube, it is nothing ridiculous, everytime a question regarding kids comes up people seem to jump down your throat....oh well

thanks

No pumps are available to inflate a pool float and as stated, you will be asked to removed it from the pool unless there are no other passengers using it, which is almost unheard of at any time including port days.

Hang on to a small float you can take to the beach and blow up yourself. Anything large enough to have to be blown up with a pump won't be very useful as none are available.

I took a foam float with me on the CB, and will do so again. It does not need to be blown up, it is about 14 inches long, and is 1 inch thick. It packed in my suitcase very nicely, and didnt get in anyones way in the pool, as it is not a full length float, but rather fits under your chest. Worked nicely for beaches too, as it fits in a beach bag. I got it at Pool City, for about 10 dollars. Very comfortable too. Karen

Hi Suzanne,

My son is 3 1/2 too - My advice would be water wings - they collapse flat and you can blow them up with your own breath, plus a half length pool noodle - buy a small one, or just cut a regular one in half. Half is plenty to support the weight of a 3 year old, plus it fits in the suitcase.

We've also used the swim suit with the little innertube in it - comes either in a full one piece swim suit or just a tank top style - but they are for pretty skinny kids so if your child is average to tall or big, they won't fit = available at Walmart. These however have "tire" valves so you need a small bike pump to blow them up. We bought a narrow portable bike tire pump to take on trips with us. (I think I found it at walmart too!!)

My son also uses at home: water wings PLUS a blow up round ring floatie - walmart for maybe $2 - just a cheap one that he can float in and you can blow up yourself. (packs small and flat) With the water wings on, he can't slip thru the hole in the middle - his arms stay up above and outside the ring.

We are going on the CB this fall so please let us know how the kiddie pools are - from other people's photos I've seen that :

-there is a small wading pool up on the top deck in the rear (Pirate's View Bar) which is half in the sun so hopefully its not too cold - next to it is a fully shaded regular deep pool, and a hot tub.

-there is a small wading pool in the outdoor part of the kids club itself - I'm not sure if this is only for the kids and counsellors use, or if parents can access it with their kids too - also in the shade so it may be cold!!

-The main pools are freshwater and have a lot of space around them where the water sloshes around. Back in 2001 we took our daughter on the Grand and she was very happy splashing in the 3-4 inches of water sloshing around in the pool area but out of the pool itself. We just sat in a corner and she could play. We had some rough seas that trip, and the water was like a shallow beach with waves coming in and out and she loved it!! I would not have dared get into the pool that trip cause the seas were pretty rough. (we'll be doing this a lot again this fall!!)

We just were on the Jewel of the Seas and were amazed at the huge kiddie pool and water slide. It was FABULOUS!! Some of the RCI radiance class ships have this, and some of the voyager class ships - but not all so be careful which ship you pick if you decide to do that next - we almost booked one for this fall until I found out that it did not have any kiddie pools!!! Now we are on the CB instead!!

:D Have a great trip and be sure to let us know how the kiddie pools are!!!!:D
