Aussieflyer Posted November 3, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 3, 2012 Anyone know which ship this was? http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-11-03/sick-passenger-winched-to-safety-from-cruise-liner/4351584 Looks like they did a great job getting the passenger off. cjm66 Posted November 3, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 3, 2012 An update names the ship as Sea Princess. http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/breaking/15290751/navy-airlifts-ill-cruise-liner-passenger/ Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
SpiritofCharles Posted November 3, 2012 #4 Share Posted November 3, 2012 As all the round the world sailors know, if you're going to get in trouble at sea and need to be rescued, the best place to have it happen is within reach of the Australian Navy! NSWP Posted November 4, 2012 #7 Share Posted November 4, 2012 I just had an E mail with sad news re this incident.. The people (husband and wife) involved are friends of mine from Batemans Bay. Unfortunately, the lady evacuated, passed away at the hospital. The couple had done many cruises around the world. RIP Y. (RKMW on CC - Bob and Kay from Cootamundra, whom I know, are on board, we might get something from them on here.)

(RKMW on CC - Bob and Kay from Cootamundra, whom I know, are on board, we might get something from them on here.) I am so sorry to hear that. I had hoped that the passenger was OK. It must be very traumatic for all concerned. The Navy did a wonderful job in evacuating her in difficult circumstances by the sound of it; very sad that it turned out the way it has. Sorry to hear as well that you know the people concerned - it is always a shock.
Aussieflyer Posted November 4, 2012 Author #10 Share Posted November 4, 2012 The ABC seems to have the wrong information or is referring to a different passenger as it is reporting (2 hours ago) that the man winched from the ship is in a stable condition. Cruise ship fan Posted November 5, 2012 #16 Share Posted November 5, 2012 Going by posts on Royal Caribbean's facebook page it looks like it wasn't just the Sea Princess that had a helicopter medical emergency yesterday. Apparently the Voyager also had a similar issue. The Voyager emergency was a broken leg so I am guessing that the ABC have been getting mixed information. Also sorry for the loss of a friend. That will explain why the story on the ABC is incorrect - though they seem to have really got it mixed up. Doesn't look good for the country's premier news service.
