Discover Atlantis Excursion

Has anyone been on the Discover Atlantis excursion offered by Carnival & how was it? It costs $70 per adult & $50 per child & includes bus transportation back & forth from the pier to Atlantis, guided tour of the Ruins Lagoon, The Dig & The Predator Lagoon. I just didn't want to come away from this thinking it cost a lot of $ for something lame. I have looked on The Atlantis website & can't get a feel for how extensive this tour is or how big The Dig aquarium is.

Also, I know people say you can book this tour for $40 a person on your own & take a cab there for $5 or $6 a person. Still a lot & just wanting to know if anybody has done this tour & thought it was worth it.

Thanks in advance!

Dina

I did this a few years ago with NCL and it was terrible, definitely not worth it in my opinion. I was not that impressed with Atlantis though... I felt that it was over priced and was really just a tour of the property and aquarium... It was a pretty close ride if I recall, so a cab ride should be reasonable...

We did this on our cruise in February and it was the worst waste of money ever. I have never regretted an excursion and have always enjoyed them even though I knew they were overpriced. This tour was pathetic. I actually felt like I was on a timeshare tour or some other type of tour to show me the property and get me to stay there. The fact that I had paid money for this grieved me. The tour guide wears a little speaker, but you can barely hear what they are saying. They take you through the grounds and show you, but again it was like seeing a hotel property. The "aquarium" part was small & quick and the rest is walking by the pools and restaurants where people are having fun (but not you - you are just walking by it in a pack like a tourist). The tour is also relatively quick and I think you could go back and look at certain parts, but we were back on the bus and back to the ship in under 2 hours I think.

BIG WASTE OF MONEY.

Oh, the one thing it did teach us was that we did not want to visit Atlantis. The commercials make it look so exotic, but it was very rundown looking.

Have done both this tour and the Dolphin excursion tour at Atlantis. I find the resort to be terribly DISorganized and completely not worth the effort. Probably the two worst tours I've ever done in my years cruising. Caveat: I don't have kids; possibly they could be entertained.

If I ever go back to Nassau I will stay on the ship.

We were in Nassau on our cruise this past March. We decided to take a taxi over to Atlantis and bought the $40 pass there. I think this is a much better way to see it, you can "self-guide" yourselves through the Digs, and walk around a lot of the grounds by yourself (you cannot get into the beach or water ride areas with this pass) but we got a good feel for everything ourselves. Plus - we saw some of those guided tours walking around, and it didn't look like fun to me!!! Walking with a huge group would take twice as long....and they were stopping to talk a lot. Not sure what there was to tell!!!

We probably spent 2 hours there, saw everything we wanted to see, and headed back to the shopping district.

I'm glad we went! However, next time i'm in Nassau, unless we're there long enough to go do the water pass, I don't have any reason to go back to Atlantis...

Have a great cruise!

Just went there last month. The cab (mini-bus) is $4 per person one way. ($3 for the 3rd person I think.) They have the fixed price posted.

You have to buy some pass if you want to go anywhere other than the casino. Even the lobby is not open to public.

With guided tour, you may learn some fun facts (if you did not do your own research) like the price of the president suite and who stayed in them before.

Get a room at the Comfort Inn next store and you will get 4 full Atlantis passes, which you can do everything including all water slides. Do not book through the cruise, a complete waste of moneu

Can you purchase tickets to Aquaventure when you get there if you take a cab. I don't really want to go anywhere near Atlantis but my 10 year old DS has his heart set on seeing it.

Aquaventure tickets are $139 /$80 for kids and available at the front desk.

The number is restricted, based on occupancy and other factors, so they sell out. first come first served.

Best way to guarantee passes is to purchase in advance at:

www.majestictoursbahamas.com They don't advertise them, but they have them.

I haven't done the Carnival excursion but I have gotten the Digs pass directly from Atlantis, and I can't imagine why anyone would pay an extra $20 to be herded around. :)

You'll pay less and enjoy the Digs more if you can come and go and explore at your own pace.

I am seriously considering this as an option for my September cruise on the Carnival Victory. Our ship docks at 7:00 a.m. and I was curious how early we would be able to check in at the hotel? I will be traveling with my sister and my 3 year old nephew and wanted to find things we could do with him.

I agree with Ajtaylor, we purchased the excursion through the cruise but once we got there we separated ourselves from the boring...long... Tour guide group and explored the attractions ourselves. I must say that I am glad we checked Atlantis off our bucket list. I enjoyed the place and all the large beautiful glass sculptures and decor as well as the aquariums. The aquariums are very nice! But I will probably never have the urge to pay for it again. Been there, done that
