Past guest Party Questions???

I keep hearing about past guest parties. I am taking my second cruise this coming January on the Liberty. Are Past Guest parties on every cruise? How do you find out when and where the party is. Do they listed in the Capers? My husband is coming with me and it's his first cruise, will he be able to go as my guest?

Warning - this is a hot topic here and you will get all kinds of info. If the cruise is over 5 days they have a party. You will get an invitation in your room that will say where and when. They are not in the Capers. Here is where people get angry. Some people say that no, you can't take your husband because he isn't a past guest. However, I've spoken directly with Carnival and anyone in your cabin can come as long as you have the invitation. Prepare to hear people get upset, though because many on this board don't believe that is the way it should be. Bottom line is that Carnival says it is okay.

I believe there will be an invitation in your stateroom when you get onboard. If it says you and guest, then your DH is allowed. If it says you, then your DH is not allowed. That being said, many ppl say they bring someone, some ppl say they dont bring a guest. This is a hot topic on the boards, and be prepared for some ppl to be direct and in some instances down right rude in responding to your question. Technically its a "Past Guest Party".

Yeah, we didn't have any past guest parties on the 4 night cruises, but on the 5 day cruise we did. Basically it is just like the Captain's reception or whatever it is called - free drinks and snacks; that's what I'm all out! We got a pin as well.

No I don't believe that there is a party on anything less than a 5 day cruise.

the next time you are on a cruise that has a past guest party you will receive an invitation in your stateroom aad it will have a ship pin attached to it. I hope when you get a chance to attend a party you will enjoy the people,hordevours,and the free drinks. Happy cruising

I was just at a Past Guest party on the Freedom Friday night. (just debarked 15 hours ago)

1) the invite isn't in your cabin when you board, it is delivered the night before the party while they clean your room, with your regular Capers.

2) got no ship pin (haven't yet at 3 past guest parties or invites)

3) A couple that sat with us, was a 3 timer with a newbie, and nothing was said to the gentleman, and I haven't seen anything made of a single guest accompanying a past cruiser.

4) This past guest party, they gave some information about the Dream and some of the refurburbs coming this year, then the rest of the party was a sales pitch for the $100 deposit program.

Sure. That's why the Past Guest Party has turned into mob scene. On Liberty in January, the CD announced there were 700 past guests onboard......and 1500 people at the party. It was filled with children and others who were not past guests...... Sooner or later, this party, like so much else, will be reduced to nothing more than a get together of those looking for free drinks.

It has turned into a noisy, drinking and eating frenzy with some people chasing down waiters, complaining because the drinks and food aren't coming fast enough.

I've decided that was my last one. Hopefully, someday, Carnival will have a reception for Platinum members only where a card must be presented to enter.

But there are a lot of children who are past guests! My son being one of them. I had no idea that there were age requirements for being a past guest!

And, I'm sure, those attending a "Platinum members only" party would have MUCH loftier motives. ;)

 

It's funny how some people seem to really resent non-past guests attending these parties. How do they even know who the non-past guests are -- do they go around during the party quizzing people??

Weird that you've never gotten the ship pin. We've gotten them on each of our 2 cruises that we were past guests. :confused:

For any past guest that wants a ship pin ~ if one is not delivered to your cabin with your invitation, I believe you can go to the Purser's desk and ask for one there. :)

Definitely NO past guest party on cruises of less than five nights. I've received my ship's pin either w/the invitation or at the entrance to the party.

There were 8 of us on last year's spring break cruise, 2 past guests. When we checked in they told us that each of the past guests could bring 1 guest with us to the party, so that's what we did. The others understood (we each took our "roomies") - they hung out and made donations to the casino. We've always gotten a pin, too. (in fact, on a 4 day I went to the pursers desk and asked if they had any for that ship and they gave me a couple)

If your ship only does 3 or 4 night cruises, they may not have any pins on board, as they never have the party. But it doesn't hurt to ask. But if your ship does 4 and 5 night cruises, they will have pins. If you are on the short cruise without party, as your cabin steward EARLY in the cruise if he can get you a pin. On my second Celebration cruise, no party...I asked the steward the last day, and he said if I had asked the first day, or second,he could have got one, but he didn't have access now. EM

I think this is another question that can get many different answers from Carnival. For example, my niece was told she could bring 1 person from her cabin, not all 3. So you can see that is NOT what you are saying.

I can see where past guests feel that it should be only past guests. I don't attend these parties just as I don't attend the Captain's Welcome Aboard parties. Too many times I have seen passengers be rude to the waiters because their free drinks weren't coming fast enough. I have a hard time not saying something to these people, so it's better for me to keep out of trouble and not go.

Anyway, I agree that one person from the cabin should be allowed to attend the PG party as many times it is the spouse of the one invited. I don't though feel all people should be allowed to attend just because one person is a past guest and the cabin has 4 people in it.

Thanks all for the information. I was only looking to take my husband with me. I would feel odd to leave him in the cabin. I can understand the flustration of someone bringing a whole cabin of first timer.

I took my daughter for a cruise for her senior trip and loved it. It took me 9 months of "bugging" to get him to agree to take this cruise with me.

I was just pushing for a 5 day cruise and he chose the 7 day.

I hope this is one of many to come.

First I would like to know why you are ALWAYS so negative when someone asks an innocent question!!

 

Second, If the Carnival staff allows others to attend the party, then who are you or anyone else to object. It is a perk of cruising and it is a good way to have new cruisers book again because they see what fun it is!

 

I really don't think that Carnival would like you to leave your wife, husband or child alone while they attend the party!

I sailed the Destiny 1-3-09 for a 5 night to Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios and there was a past guest party! We had no idea there was a past guest party until the invites showed up on our bed. Each invite had the name of the past guest that was allowed to attend. We had to bring the invites to the party and surrender them at the door when we entered.

I agree, a past guest should be allowed to take 1 guest with them from their cabin. You should not have to leave your spouse to go attend a party.

We just got off the Liberty a week ago. Got our invitations in our cabin the night before with a Liberty pin. We each got an invitation I guess since we are both past guests.
