  1. These stops certainly are not prepackaged resort days like Perfect Day or Princess Cay, that's for sure. Things like this are one of the many reasons that the mainstream lines are preferring proprietary ports more and more. Better guest experience. Oh and the fact that they keep all your dollars is just a side benefit obviously. Haha
  2. I really doubt that. Carnival has zero responsibility for your safety once you walk off the gangway - whether you're on a Carnival organized tour or not.
  3. Where in the article did it say Carnival owes the ladies something? Or is that just speculation?
  4. It's business, it's nothing personal. No feelings are hurt in business.
  5. If they were actual hot tubs then people wouldn't be sitting in them for hours on end drinking and never getting out to use the bathroom. And kids wouldn't be in them at all, or at least not for long. Carnival wants them to be chamber pots though I guess.
  6. It has nothing to do with the Elation other than that's how those ladies got to Freeport that day.
  7. Do you think the officials in Aruba will believe it was a mistake when you roll up to the embassy with all your luggage and a 3-night hotel stay already booked?
  8. You must not have read the one OP linked to.
  9. https://www.carnival.com/vifp/benefits
  10. Travel agent websites do that. You don't have to book with them obviously. But something to look into.
  11. The same can be said for buffet restaurants, yet many of us eat to excess because we can.
  12. I don't know. People still fill Myrtle Beach or Atlantic City every Summer and those places haven't changed in 30 years, so you tell me. Many people see the ship as the destination. Good or bad - that's the target customer for CCL and RCL going forward. They will capture every one of your dollars from embarkation to final debarkation.
  13. I fully admit it is a character flaw of mine.
  14. We will see. I don't see RCL or CCL going back to smaller ships to be honest. The economies of scale are just too big to ignore and the customer loves the bigger ships. Smaller lines like Virgin, obviously Viking, etc., will of course keep smaller ships and continue to build them. But I don't see Carnival or Royal in particular going back to anything smaller than say Carnival Vista or Royal Quantum class.
  15. Same situation I ran into on the few cruises where we did buy Cheers. We drank more to get our money's worth. Didn't enjoy the cruise as a consequence. Same reason why I don't enjoy all-you-can-eat buffet restaurants. I eat to excess and don't feel good afterward. It's easier for me to stay away from things like that.
  16. Judging by the success Royal is seeing with the Oasis and especially the Icon classes (And Carnival with the Excel class), that seems to be a bigger issue for Grand Cayman than it is Royal Caribbean or Carnival to be honest...
  17. Good deal! The times I've booked last minute free rooms they're usually really last minute - as in less than 7 days to embarkation. So not much time for an upgrade offer.
  18. Well OK so "there are none" is technically incorrect. There is one on the TV. I've used it in a pinch before. But it's not meant to be used for charging things. It's inconvenient to get to for one thing.
  19. Nope. The consumer won't pay as much for an outmoded, rusty, dirty ship - so Carnival can't charge as much. Everything in economics is all about what somebody is willing to pay for something. The cost to produce the good decides if the good ends up getting made. If it costs more to produce a good than the consumer is willing to pay, then it won't get made.
  20. Common misconception. The price you pay has nothing to do with the cost to produce the good. Carnival charges what they can get. With older outmoded ships that they don't maintain as well as they could, they can't charge as much as other lines.
  21. If they make the hot tubs actually hot and not just bath water warm, then it will solve all the problems people are mentioning in this thread.
