  1. Many proudly admit here checking in early prior to their assigned time. That tells me the 'honor system' is not working. Enforce the times and keep it fair for those who check in 45 days prior. Too many think they are VIP's.
  2. Strange, get an email day before boarding and Royal says to adhere to your check in time.
  3. Unfortunately things have changed. Used to be able to book shows weeks before sailing on Oasis class. Now, you can only book them in the pier area. Why I believe there is more of demand to board early to get the shows you want to go to.
  4. They should still enforce check in times is my point. I am happy to play by the rules, but many don't. Check in times are there for a reason and need to be enforced. Why can Tampa enforce the rules and Ft Lauderdale can't?
  5. I understand that. It was Ft Lauderdale that was not verifying check in times. Should be the same standard no matter what port you sail from. Oasis class really makes it a tough as you need to book shows when you board. No frenzy in Tampa as show reservations are not required on the smaller ships from there, but I give them credit to verify check in times. Just do not like all the cheaters in Ft Lauderdale who disregard their check in time and board early. Comedy shows go quick.
  6. It was a big factor booking another cruise on Allure. Diamond lounge has a great view without that purple slide. Hope they don't mess with Allure.
  7. Lucky you! Love Captain Johnny! You really know he is your Captain is if you are lucky enough to be onboard when he is in command. He is out and about often. Other's you will never recall as they just go through the motions and you will never see them. The noon update is about as personal many of them get.
  8. We stuck to our check in time back in May on Allure. It was a b2b for 14 nights so no rush to board. Going only for nights on 6 nights in August. Noticed in May they were not checking times in Ft Lauderdale like they did out of Tampa late last year. No way the crowd to board had times equal or before us at 11:30am. Anyway, seen reports that suites down to Diamond's are called first to board. How does that work when you are assigned a boarding time now? We have 11:30 am boarding time again in August. We are Diamond also.
  9. I know for a fact that NCL does not offer traditional dining to this day. No free lobster in the MDR also. Seeing bloggers on NCL recently and they show the same menu everyday in MDR on NCL. Admit I have not been on NCL for over 20 years, but the MDR menu could be where I am wrong as I am basing it on people I don't know blogging about it on YouTube.
  10. Stopped going on NCL over 20 years ago when they ditched traditional dining and were bought out by Star Cruises. Was our go to line when we first started cruising in the 90's. No included lobster in the MDR. MDR menu is the same every night. Rather pay a little more for Royal as NCL is not what it was.
  11. It does. Paid $40 pp on Serenade from Tampa back in December.
  12. We have bought these for our trips to the WJ also. Miss when they used to serve you.... https://a.co/d/8S2D1GP
  13. Anyone else heard the term 'Steiner girls'? I certainly have over the years. There has been so many posts over the years about their aggressive upsells that they earned this term.
  14. I was waiting to book this before it was recently added to the cruise planner for our November Granduer cruise. Will pass booking now. Chance of being stuck on the lower level being the primary one and the swaying from side to side.
  15. Deck 8 for easy access to central park. We also like near the forward elevators as they tend to be less busy and free of those taking aft to the Windjammer all day.
  16. The former NCL Seaward. She was our third cruise. It was a decent ship, but built on the cheap. Lots of astroturf on top decks with thin metal plating. Seaward debuted in 1988 and was NCL's first new ship built for the line after 1971's Southward. The longest gap in their history without newbuilds. A few photos I took onboard from 1995.
  17. See other posts here on this forum and many freely admit they had a later checkin time and they got to the port early and said they got on before their assigned checkin/boarding time. Just so rude to me. Not an issue so much on older ships where there is not a need to schedule seating for show, but the Oasis class where folks board earlier than assigned checkin rubs me the wrong way. Royal and their contracted port workers need to enforce the assigned checkin times.
  18. You will see the folks on the promenade with phones in hand frantically booking the shows when you board. It reminded me to do it as I had not sailed a ship for years that required reservations. Our first Oasis class before Allure on Harmony we booked shows online weeks prior to sailing. Seemed like a fair and less intense process especially when I discovered many who had assigned checkin later than ours on Allure were allowed to board before us. The times were not checked and basically people cut the line to board as we adhered to our checkin time. Why I prefer older ships with no need to go through this frenzy. Book the comedy show first on Allure though as the capacity is low in that venue and the window to go there closes fast. The people who don't adhere to their checkin time will snatch them up also.
  19. Felt so bad it happened to him. He kept posting Tampa area weather updates while he was on vacation from the ship. The guy never sleeps as he posts updates all times of the day for his many fans here. He does a lot of good things for the community and just a great people person. Sorry to hear OP and their companions got sick also and glad you were able to get Paxlovid to help your recovery.
  20. Someone recently posted the letter that lists the benefits for Diamond once onboard. Down the list it says 20 percent off any beer, wine or soda. It is past the 50 percent off deal on 2 drinks per sailing which we will use first. Is it 20 percent all cruise for everything you order after using your 4 free drinks? Sorry, first time I recall not buying the drink package due to current price levels and never paid attention to these discounts in the past.
  21. Local weatherman here was on that cruise. He mentioned he got sick and some of his family got sick. He also mentioned norovirus as being the cause.
  22. Miss when we paid $40 a day on Serenade back in December. Inflation is not that high to charge the current prices. Paid $188.80 pp with gratuity for our 4 nighter from Tampa. Ship was under 50 percent capacity. I guess it spoiled me when ships are now booked to full capacity now and drink package prices are through the roof!
  23. Drink package cost is only $4 less than what we paid for a 9 nighter on Granduer. Never seen it so close to the cruise fare. No way I will pay that as we are diamond and will just pay extra for more than 4 drinks a day for each of us. Royal has priced it too high lately.
  24. We were suppose to get quadruple points on Jewel back in January. Booked under the double points promotion last year and got single cabins with no supplement. Royal cancelled to use Jewel as a quarantine ship for crew and we didn't get quadruple points, just double when we rebooked on Allure for May as the solo cabin deal did not exist. The good deals don't exist anymore.
