  1. I can walk but only for short distances at a time, and it is difficult for me to stand for very long. I use wheelchair assistance at airports and it works pretty well for me. Is there something comparable at the port of San Diego? If so do you request it from the port or from HAL? How do you access it? Is there a place you go? I guess what i'm looking for is a bit of a primer on how it all works, if it is available. Thanks to anyone who's "been there, done that" and can provide any guidance.
  2. Fighting his way worked best for Wellington. O'er the hills and o'er the Main Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain King George commands and we obey Over the hills and far away 😉
  3. Was there any lag between the time you were notified that the OBC had been credited to your account and when it showed up on your HAL Invoice/Guest Copy? I ask because my notification that it was credited to my account was on 1/1 and I just had my TA send me the HAL Invoice/Guest Copy and it wasn't showing up. Thanks.
  4. Once you get confirmation that your ownership has been verified, don't forget to go back to stockperks to Redeem your perk. That was the step I was missing until @aussiedisneyfan straightened me out.
  5. FWIW, my notice that my ownership was successfully verified (and I never gave them access to my broker account, just uploaded a PDF of my purchase confirmation) was at 10:03 AM on 1/1 and my notice that my account had been credited with my 250 OBC was received at 6:30 PM on 1/1. I had previously been notified that they received my application for verification on 12/29 at 12:09 PM. I never applied the old way, but this turned out to be very simple and efficient, although I was confused a bit along the way. The trickiest part was learning how to take a screenshot of the purchase confirmation and then "printing" it to a PDF file.
  6. Threads drift. The OP's scenario was left far behind in this thread because it made no sense. Nevertheless a lot of good information was shared and discussed. Why is that a problem for you?
  7. I appreciate all the good thoughts. If this is my last cruise it won't in any way diminish my life. We each set our own limits as to what we will or will not do. This cruise will show me if I can still cruise enjoyably under my own personal standards. I judge no one for their personal standards, but neither will I be judged for adhering to my own. So, we'll see.
  8. I'm giving it a shot. The biggest issue will be mobility, since I can't see myself using a mobility scooter. I tried one in the local grocery store and took out an end cap. 🤒🤒 I'd be afraid of hurting someone. I can walk relatively short distances so I'll have to see if it is enough to maneuver myself around the ship. If it's my last cruise I'll make the most of it, and I still have the memories of the cruises I took with my wife pre-pandemic.
  9. So my fears were all unfounded. They verified my ownership from a PDF of my purchase confirmation that didn't include my name. And, WOOHOO, I just got notified that the 250 OBC just got added to my cruise account. That will buy a lot of PG lunches since there are 10 seadays on my cruise. Thanks again to everyone who helped me with a special shout-out to @aussiedisneyfan.
  10. I will, because it might be my last. It will be my first time cruising 1) since the pandemic, 2) since my wife passed and I am traveling as a solo, and 3) since mobility issues have increasingly hampered me. So this is a test, in a way. I did the same test on a long range train trip and it failed. No more train trips.
  11. I don't know, all I can report is my experience, which didn't include any of the Plaid or Alinea stuff folks have talked about. And none of my fears materialized, as I just got the email confirming my $250 in OBC has been added to my cruise. The difference between my experience and what others have posted is perplexing. I wish I had an answer for you but I don't.
  12. I think I saw this incident on Criminal Minds, LOL.
  13. My niece wanted a "destination" wedding at a Cancun all inclusive. After checking out the requirements they decided to just have a small private civil service stateside, and then a pro forma wedding in Mexico. It significantly simplified things.
  14. FWIW, I just used the Stockperks app and it was pretty easy. I didn't have to link to my broker account, I just uploaded a PDF of my stock purchase confirmation. Later I realized it didn't have my name on it so I didn't think it would work (turned out it did) so I did a screenshot of my broker statement showing the holding and was able to crop it so my name showed and the holding showed, and nothing else. I ended up not needing the cropped screenshot, but even for an old guy (68) it was pretty easy.
  15. That is the whole crux of this discussion. Something that some folks have a hard time accepting.
  16. What is unfortunate is that some people believe so strongly that their way is the only way that they have to label people who choose differently as some form of loser. These are frequently the same folks who delight in putting down mass market ships and the people who cruise on them.
  17. Thanks!! What is strange is that I didn't encounter any of that Plaid or Alinea stuff folks have posted about. I just had to fill in a screen of identifying information (with nothing confidential) and upload my purchase conformation. Anyway I did the redeem step, and the only question now is whether I applied too late since they say you should request it 4 weeks before your cruise, but mine is 1/13. The message did say they would try, so I am hopeful. But I wouldn't have even known about the Redeem step without your kindly intervention, so once again THANK YOU!!!
  18. Huh, maybe I didn't screw up. I just got a notification from stockperks that my stock proof of ownership was validated. Is there a way to check if the OBC has been credited to my cruise?
  19. I think I screwed up in using stockperks. I sent a PDF of my trade confirmation, but then realized it didn't have my name. I'm expecting a rejection on Monday and will have to resubmit.
  20. Some of the cruise-related content creators on YouTube make some decent money from views, likes, and subscriptions to their channel. At that point I think the IRS rules on hobbies vs. businesses would come into play, on determining deductibility.
  21. Sounds delicious. Definitely going to try in on my upcoming 1/13 K-dam cruise.
  22. You certainly aren't forced to use the other perks.
  23. It's like the company Christmas party for the self-employed guy.😉
