  1. I booked through an online travel agent that is probably clueless so I am trying to find out what is possible before I call. It is after final payment and I am thinking about upgrading cabins. I am in the US if that matters. The "Sailing Soon" fare for the cabin I want is attractive. I realize I will lose any benefits I received with my original booking. Can I use the "Sailing Soon" fare for the upgrade or do I need to pay the difference between my current fare and the regular fare.
  2. I was in a similar cabin on Constellation. The balcony is absolutely fabulous. I might move to a suite if the cost was minimal, say $15 per person per day. And that is ONLY if you really care about the restaurant.
  3. I was on Royal last year and Celebrity last year and this year. As far as I am concerned Royal is 2 steps below Celebrity. Note: the passenger mix on any given cruise will vary based on time of year, itinerary, and length.
  4. The water package has also skyrocketed in price.
  5. I think it may also depend on when the class is scheduled. The fine print should say how many hours prior to the activity you have to cancel.
  6. What is included in a one day Spa Pass on the Quenn Elizabeth?
  7. Some travel insurance companies will waive pre-existing conditions IF purchased within a specified time of booking the cruise. Also if the son had bought travel insurance he would be covered because he was traveling with his mother. I have seen an argument that you should absolutely always buy health insurance for a cruise because of the possibility of extreme costs (e.g, possibly a $100,000 in medical bills or more) however, it might not make sense to buy travel insurance. The argument is that you have already budgeted for the cost of the cruise so losing the money will not break you and if you add up the total cost of travel insurance for many cruises then in the long run you may be better off taking the occasional loss.
  8. If you are OK with the set timing times (early or late) you are better off with those since you are guaranteed the same table each night and no waiting.
  9. Whether or not the drive is worth it is hard to say. Personally, if you have never been there, I think the art deco buildings are interesting. You might instead stay an extra day at the beginning of the cruise in South Beach.
  10. If it is one entree at a time then I guess just eat the first entree (or a part of it) and then ask to get the second. Worst that happens is you take up one of the MDR tables for a long period of time. Eventually they may decide it is easier to provide 2 entrees at a time rather than tying up the table.
  11. I got a survey asking about Caribbean cruises. Not sure the people Cunard got to put the survey together really know what they are doing? I would have been more than happy to tell them how I pick a cruise and why but they didn’t ask.
  12. I guess I am trying to figure out if we will be waiting for an hour or more to get ashore and then more waiting for very crowded local transportation.
  13. I understand your point that they should not allow such a noisy cabin on the ship in the first place.
  14. Do you then tell Cunard you don't want to be upgraded? We initially booked a standard inside, were moved to deluxe inside, and last time I checked we are in obstructed OV. Hopefully they won't take any of the upgrades back. Point is we didn't get to choose any of the upgraded cabins.
  15. How well does the port handle 2 ships at roughly the same time? One ship is around 2500 pax and the other around 2100.
  16. I have a cruise booked on the QE (Britannia) and I am starting to look at some of the small extras that I might purchase. I can't figure out from the web site exactly what is included in 2 of the options. The Cunard website has an Aqua Therapy Centre, Thermal Suite (2-hour pass) and there is a Queen Elizabeth's Spa Day Pass. As far as I can tell the Thermal Suite 2 hour pass and the Spa day pass are both the same price. I would appreciate any information on these. For example, does anyone know what is included in a spa day pass. Because of pricing I assume it does not include the Thermal Suite.
  17. I am a little confused. Did you purchase travel insurance?
  18. The cruise is June 20 on Cunard QE. The reason given for canceling Juneau was “operational issues “. I call it a sea day however they will be going into one of the glaciers.
  19. Since it is bussing the article I read says the rockslide fix has to comply with DOT requirements, whatever that means. I seem to remember the article saying that the city would also have spotters watching the mountain just in case. Even if that works not sure I would want to be on a big ship with everyone trying to get on however many buses they have. I have a cruise scheduled to stop there however I think it will be touch and go all season. The cruise I am in already canceled Juneau and put in a sea day. I will not be happy if they cancel another port.
  20. I think it would s more like “fairly common” for cruises in general. On the last 6 cruises I have been on/planned the itinerary has changed on 3 of them. On four of them if you include getting back to the starting port over 5 hours late.
  21. That would get me really upset. I have a friend on that cruise.
  22. The problem with being shuttled is that the mountain has to be fixed and safe from landslides in order for the shuttle to run. Again work scheduled complete by April if all goes smoothly.
  23. Then Celebrity new about this last September but didn’t tell people until past final payment?
  24. I read an article that says the Skagway dock repairs will hopefully be done by April. If the repairs are successful we should be OK. If the repairs aren’t successful then they will have to skip Skagway. The article also mentioned using buses to shuttle people at the dock.
