  1. You should receive detailed luggage handling and luggage tags in your cabin two days before the end of the cruise. You will get two different luggage tags - “Meet me tonight” for luggage that will go to your first hotel and “Meet me in Anchorage” for luggage that will go to your last hotel. You can take a day bag on the bus and train, Your luggage will travel separately. You leave the luggage outside of your cabin/room early in the morning. It will be delivered to your hotel room. If you have the Holland transfer to the airport, you will leave your luggage outside your room in the morning. Holland will store the luggage and deliver the luggage to you in the airport terminal. If you handling your own transfer, you will need to arrange your own storage as well. when we did the cruise tour, we had two large suitcases. We packed all of our laundry and cruise specific stuff into one suitcase and tagged it for the last hotel. The other suitcase was tagged for “Meet me tonight”. The last day we sent all of the luggage to the airport except for a daypack, gored the city for the day, returned to the hotel for a 9 pm transfer bus to the Airport for a 11:45 pm flight. It all worked well. You will receive detailed info on the ship, on the bus, on the train and at each hotel, On our tour, there was a presentation in the theater in the morning of the last sea day for all folks on cruise tours. The presentation was generic, but very informative. There was a cruise tour manager who held office hours to handle questions and problems, but the line was long that last day.
  2. Photo Point is approximately 1.5 miles from the foot of the glacier. Nugget Falls is approximately one mile from the foot of the glacier. You are closer but not real close.
  3. Here is the port schedule for the Westerdam in Sydney next winter. Westerdam - Sydney.pdf
  4. From Stadsgarden to Vaasa on foot requires crossing three bridges, It’s about a two mile walk. You’d cross the Slussen bridge to Gamla Stan, walk the length of Gamla Stan past the palace, take Strömbron bridge to downtown, walk along the wharves to the Djurgårdsvägen bridge to Museum Island.
  5. You can see the foot of the glacier from the beach in front of the falls. When we were there in 2019, there was a sand spit out into the lake that have you a better angle on the glacier as well as the falls. However, you see more of the glacier from the photo spots along the way out to the falls.
  6. No, it is not walkable. Taxi would be fastest. There is the 76 bus, which would take about a half hour to get to Gamla Stan, There is also the harbor ferry 80, which has a dock right at the end of the cruise pier, which takes an hour to get to Gamla Stan. It is a nice scenic route, which includes a change of ferry to ferry 82 at Museum island where you could visit Vasa Museum or Tivoli.
  7. Slight correction: the Dive In is usually near the Lido interior pool.
  8. According to https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/tongass/about-forest/offices/?cid=fseprd502109 , Visitors 16 years and older will need a pass to access the following areas: the Pavillion Photo Point Trail Steep Creek Restrooms Bus Shelter The visitor center
  9. On the first sea day, you will be crossing the Queen Charlotte Sound, between the Queen Charlotte Islands and the British Columbia mainland. The ship will keep its distance from both the islands and the mainland.
  10. Copenhagen detailed port schedule is at https://www.cmport.com/terminals/ships-in-port/
  11. In addition to turning left at the traffic circle on Douglas Island, if you turn right, the is a scenic highway that runs northwest along the sound. There is a park at a boat ramp which gives you a distant view across water of Mendenhall Glacier.
  12. Cons: Expensive, you have to order the most expensive meals to cover the cost. You are restricted to restaurants on Holland properties. There are numerous options nearby in Anchorage, Denali and Fairbanks. The plan only pays the bill. It does not give you priority for reservations. Pros: Everything is prepaid. You do not have to deal with credit cards or cash.

There are two gondolas. The free gondola runs between the two cruise docks. The gondola that runs from the cruise docks to the top of the mountain and the zip-line is a paid ticket. A map of the area showing the gondolas, the cruise docks, the cannery and the zip-line: https://icystraitpoint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/NEW-Map-9mb-version-002-2.pdf
  15. This is true of almost all cruise ships at all turn around ports. The ship needs to be made ready for a new batch of passengers, so that the ship is ready to leave on its next cruise late afternoon.
  16. The cruise docks in Juneau are mostly adjacent to town. There is a ton of shops, bars, restaurants and museums within walking distance. There is an aerial tram that takes you up to top of a mountain, which is nice if the weather is clear. There is one cruise dock, the AJ Dock, that is a twenty minute walk from the main dock area. The cruise line should have a shuttle in that case.
  17. There are two separate cruise docks in Copenhagen: Oceankaj and Langelinie. Which one you are docked at makes all the difference. Langelinie Is used for smaller ships, usually for port visit. Larger ships and debarkation/embarkation cruises use Oceankaj. Each port has its issues with ground transportation. To get to public transit requires taking a city bus to a subway station. A taxi would be easier for those with mobility issues. Nyhavn is a relatively small canal with restaurants and bars along its docks. You can catch a canal tour there. It is near Amelienborg and Chrisrianborg, both of which have museums and historic sites. A good city tour book will help there.
  18. There is thread about choosing cabins on the Volendam. It seems that room selection does not work for cruises on R-class ships, Volendam and Zaandam.
  19. Douglas Island is great with a rental car. Eagle Beach at low tide for the Eagles.
  20. No problem. Baggage checkin opens about 9.
  21. You can take a taxi, which winds through Old Town to get to the bridge that goes to the museums. The ferry is more direct, scenic and cheaper, but it is a walk to the ferry terminals.A taxi may better for those with limited mobility.
  22. There are kiosks on the docks that sell excursions (unrelated to the cruise ship ). You can see what’s available and what your risk of missing the ship is.
