  1. Do not put it off. I watched my parents keep saying "next year, when the kids are [older, grown, graduated], when I have more time off" and the list went on. They finally realized that 3 of their 4 kids had saved their own money and been to Europe before age 18 and they had never been. They planned a 25th wedding anniversary to England, Ireland and Scotland. The day they were supposed to depart is the day we buried my mother. She was only 49. Dad learned quickly that tomorrow never gets here and never put off traveling or anything he wanted to do for baseless reasons. He did take the trip with our youngest brother who was 10 (late baby) when we lost her. Book the cruise. You won't regret it.
  2. Top left corner of the posting area: A capital B which will bold what you highlight first then click the B; or the capital I which will italicize the word; or the capital U to underline the words or phrases. Option 4 is all three at the same time by clicking them after you type the text in full.
  3. He did the same thing with Virgin America his domestic airline in the US. It was THE BEST to fly and I always used it if available for my destination/trip. Then it went public and the investors insisted he sell it (so he says) to Alaska Airlines. ALL of the reasons to fly them quickly evaporated. If the VV line sells you can kiss all the reasons you cruise on it now good bye.
  4. I did Premier Access on my upcoming cruise. I have a prime concierge cabin, no drinks package but the PA was less expensive than premium wifi and came with an additional perk I will use which is the waived fees and gratuities for room service. My cruise is port intensive so I will be off the ship most of the time and a drink package is not financially saavy for me. I believe you can cancel your basic wifi and purchase the premier access which includes premium wifi.
  5. I live in Vegas and usually warn friends to not be waiting for "last call" because we don't close. I headed to the black jack tables with a good friend one time and the plan was we would play for a couple hours then go to dinner. After a while I was feeling peckish and asked him what time it was. He glanced at his watch and said "4 am". Well, we missed dinner lol. I told him someone in this casino is serving pancakes let's go! It is very easy to gamble for 8 hours or more when having a good time here but on my cruises it lasts an hour or so because I can do that at home. I am on a cruise to do different stuff.
  6. I can't find where I saw it on the Celebrity site (thanks to their really stinky IT department) but I also saw that if you bring sodas/water on board it has to be in cans no plastic or glass bottles/containers. It isn't the content of the containers it is the containers. The only bottles I have read that can be brought on board are wine. Even alcohol in bottles, well any container, is confiscated until the end of the cruise.
  7. Well after reading all the comments and looking at the port schedule for my upcoming cruise on the Summit the good news for me is that other than in Icy Straight Point I am on ship excursions so will have priority for debarkation and separate transportation into the towns. When in ISP the Summit is the only one there that day so there shouldn't be a big wait for the gondola. We are also the only ship in port in Ketchikan. Now to just tick of the days on the calendar until I sail!
  8. I live in Las Vegas and the strip resort hotels (well actually most of the resort hotels) now have mini-fridge and desk top mini bar options that lead me to be afraid of being charged erroneously. The problem is the items are geo tagged somehow that if you pick it up: YOU PAY. You cannot touch something to check it out and decide. As a grown adult I have no issue avoiding this but for those with children in a room or the copius numbers of drunk adults that vacation here I can see it being a huge revenue generator because someone picked something up and put it down.
  9. In this thread: the OP and 2-3 people think this is cute and fun. And yes, it is weird and creepy. I am starting to wonder if the kid took a job in Alaska just to get as far away from Mom and her weird stunts as possible.
  10. Glad I could help. The night vision on these works really well too. I used them last night to look at the "pink" moon. The clarity is amazing. They were great for the meteor shower too.
  11. I am sure that the employer and co-workers wouldn't have too much of an issue with Mom and Pop stopping by to say Hi when in ISP but heaven knows how many random strangers disrupting the day for "hugs and hershey's kisses" because Mom thought it would be funny is going to get really old really fast. If it were me I would take that picture down ASAP. It may be too late though.
  12. Mom didn't say what his job is but you are assuming that it is condusive to a bunch of people dropping in and taking up time and resources. You are also assuming that his co-workers want a bunch of candy. In reality it is disruptive to the work especially if it is retail or a restaurant. Odds are higher his co-workers will be angry that they have to do more while the embarassed kid is dealing with a bunch of squealing women gushing over him and pushing Hershey bars. As @wolfie11 said the risk that the incessant interuptions could cost him his job is not worth the amusement that Mom would get from it.
  13. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CWRY7LYK?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details Depends heavily on WHY someone is buying binoculars. If you are going to use binoculars ALL the time or even regularly then sure. I bought these specifically for this cruise and the occasional star gazing. I have been using them during the recent meteor shower and pink moon with no issues. After that I might on the rare occasion use them for some bird watching but other than that they will go in the closet so spending big money on a brand name isn't necessary for me. I simply want better binoculars than will be in the closet of my cabin and these were worth it.
  14. Does it occur to you that maybe this young man doesn't want hugs from a bunch of strangers? Especially while working. This phrase is the one that concerned me: "Are there any Alaska sailors who would love to help confuse him and amuse me ". I get it that Mom thinks this would be funny as [expletive] but apparently if she knows before hand it would confuse him he may not think it is as funny as she does if at all. He is 18, out on his own for the first time, working a new job with new people in a new culture and her big idea is to send a bevy of complete strangers to descend on him and potentially embarass him. Not a good plan. Of course she misses her son and should visit him when there but keep the strangers out of it. Let him be.
  15. I don't. I simply didn't want to pay interest on the balance and preferred to pay in cash not credit. Apparently Celebrity can't handle that. I don't carry balances on my cards. 😂😂😂 depends on who you sre. Especially these days. Try telling that to my useless brother who can't do Sesame Street level money management.
  16. To the best of my knowledge the whales don't use travel agents or migration planners like cruisers do but here is what I found when I googled it: What is the best month to see whales in Alaska? Gray whales are the first to arrive, typically in April when they're often spotted off of Seward. By May, we start to see more orcas, then humpback whales come June. Alaska's peak whale season is considered to be May through September, and it's during this time that the boat tours operate.
  17. I follow that part. What I don't agree with is once I went to the hotel desk and paid the bill there was no charges to put through. I had a zero balance. They should have only released the hold not tried to bill me again then blocked me from leaving in a humiliating fashion. If I had actually owed money that would be one thing but when I upheld my responsibility and paid in full my credit card was no longer needed. Which they tried to put through after being paid in cash. Shame on them. You don't get to double dip and humiliate the passenger while trying. PERIOD.
  18. I just bought these from Amazon: Professional High Powered Binoculars: 20x magnification and 50mm objective lens ensure wide-angle viewing from distances of over 1000 yards. These lightweight binoculars are perfect for bird watching, hunting, travel, stargazing, concerts, football games, climbing, hiking, driving, observing wildlife, and taking in scenery. HD Vision with Quality Optics - These 20x50 binoculars for adults high powered are specially designed with BAK-4 Prisms and FMC film lenses, which minimize the loss of light due to reflection and ensure brighter and clearer high-contrast images. Clear Low Light Night Vision: 50mm lenses are larger than usual, which provides them with more light-gathering power. Therefore, they are more effective in low-light conditions, delivering clear vision. However, they cannot provide clear vision in complete darkness. I have been using them star gazing at night and bird watching and so far am impressed. They were a decent price too at $69
  19. I think it is just Celebrity's poorly designed website and IT department. I purchased my Premium Access last month and it does not reflect on my luggage tags for my cruise on May 17th. I don't foresee major problems because of it but once you pay for the package it should automatically be linked to your reservation. Too bad it doesn't work that way for all of us.
  20. He didn't put anyone on "blast" he simply posted to exercise caution. The only one blasting someone is you. He is allowed to express his opinion even if you disagree with it. Your blast was uncalled for.
  21. You would think but no and as it was my first time cruising I didn't have the knowledge to push for it.
  22. I made that mistake on my first cruise ever. I was on the Equinox with Celebrity and I knew I was reaching my limit on my credit card so I went down on the last night and paid in cash and got a zero balance receipt. Next morning I go to disembark and get the loud warning bell that I am denied leaving because I have a balance. WHAT???? It was SO humiliating. I had to go back to the "front desk" and asked them to explain why I was denied leaving. They told me I had a balance and I asked for the folio. When she printed it it was identical to the zero balance sheet from the night before. I asked how much cash was needed to pay zero? The purser looked at me sheepishly and offered no apology. I was finally cleared to leave. That said on the next cruise with 2 friends from the first (all in separate cabins/reservations) one of us always had a money problem. After Friend 1 and I left the ship we passed Friend 2 leaning on a pillar with a cruise employee standing there. We didn't pay much attention at first but asked if she wanted to share a cab to the airport with us. She said no she had some "business" to take care of. As we waited to get our luggage we were talking about what could be wrong and another passenger said they had heard her talking to the employees and she had a balance she couldn't pay. We lost touch with her and I don't know how it was handled but she was off the ship but an employee was standing there next to her for what purpose I don't know. My guess is they had her sign a promissory note before she could claim her luggage and go home.
  23. Apology accepted. 🙂 No worries it happens.
  24. FYI: my post you quoted refers to traffic jerks not cruise ship boarding. It was an analogy from a previous post. I could care less who boards when. That is between the port and the passenger.
  25. I haven't seen anything higher on my cruise. I did the math on what I anticipated spending on my 7 night cruise in Alaska and since it is port intensive even with a discount I would spend more on a beverage package than I would use so I am going to risk it and go without.
