@cruisemom42 I took all your suggestions on our Rome trip and it was spot on. So, I think your suggestions for Athens would be spot on as well. We are staying at Athens Gate (another cruisemom42 suggestion) and wondering if your suggestions in post #4 are walkable from the hotel. It looks like a pretty good afternoon itinerary.

Hotel Lancelot is just a stones throw away from the Coliseum and many restaurants in the area. You can walk to the Coliseum. Although I did not stay there, I stayed across the street and almost everyday there were Americans outside gathering for tours. It was a good area.

I may give it a try when I am there next Spring. I like the Plaza Mayor area because of the restaurants and bars particularly Casa de Champinones down the steps. That area used to be called "The Caves" back in the 70's.

And don't forget to wear your beads!!! LOL

My vote is for Alaska also. We have done Eastern, Western, Southern Caribbean. That is our go to cruising as we live in Florida but we did Alaska once and Boy, what a different type of cruising. I knew a retired Alaska Coast Guardsman who once told me that if God had put His footprint anywhere on Earth it would have been in Alaska. The scenery was beautiful. And we did not feel that the temp was too cold.

Hank, thanks for the good advice. I have never been to Athens but I've been to Barcelona many times and pickpocketing there is a sport (We lived in Spain for 3 years many years ago). We will be disembarking in Athens after a 25-day cruise so this info is very informative. Pickpockets can ruin your trip for sure so we shall be very vigilant.

Just curious. Can you request that flights be ticketed at the time you book with FlightEase even before final cruise payment?

So if I want to stay a week or so and fly out of another city from where I disembark, I can still book a Flight Ease flight, right? Thinking of staying in Europe a few days after a trans-atlantic.

I would like to know this same thing. I have never been to Lisbon but plan to spend a few days there post cruise.

I really like reading your observations, Mr. Morpheus. I know you and the Mrs. are used to a little more "upscale" cruising. I fear that by the end of this sailing, Holland America may be a distant memory for you. It just may be my perception, but it sounds like the (how should I say) procedures/operations are a little not what you are used to. And rightly so. I don't think I would like a $840 charge on my cc either. I have never heard of this. I hope the rest of the sailing is to your liking.

Half Moon Cay is my favorite out island. I don't know why. Maybe it's the lack of confusion and the less crowded beach that I like. More calm and peaceful beach day.
