  1. For clarity, it's always said "restricted business" (at least it has since 2018). That is more of a term regarding the fact that it's a very discounted ticket. However the service difference between "restricted business" and "business" is airline dependent. For U.S. airlines, (well for United and Delta) at this point there is no real difference. You still get your pick of seats when it's booked (a great reason to deviate 210 days out), you can change your seats dependent on availability, and get full access to the lounges, full baggage allowance, etc. Qatar changed to offering "business lite" around 2021 and part of the reduced fare offer is no access to their lounges and no advanced seat selection. This is available on the Qatar website, so it behooves someone to check it out before accepting bookings on any airlines. Again... a good reason to deviate 210 days out.
  2. Correct. But that's my point. Delta enforces the Pilot uniform because it impacts business...i.e. how the passenger feels. In fact when I was flying actively they did a study regarding the double breasted coat and the pilot's hat. They found that the double breasted coat, because it basically has to be buttoned, and the wearing of the hat created a higher level of passenger confidence rather than the other option. So it stayed. No joke...they really did the study and those were the conclusions. So... according to Delta, "dress" does make a difference. Anyway, probably beat this "dead horse" enough. 😎
  3. Actually we don't disagree on this. I completely agree it falls on Regent, particularly supervisors. I just don't like labelling people. Well I do...but only to my wife....who usually tells me to "zip it." 😜
  4. Yes, the U.S. Coast Guard can detail the safety concerns. This might help. https://www.dco.uscg.mil/Portals/9/OCSNCOE/Casualty-Information/Safety-Alerts/CG-SA-11-15.pdf?ver=4PLf75tU9nV6eG5ioI0MWg%3D%3D
  5. I know this has probably been mentioned, but there are no Formal Optional nights on cruise segments of less than 16 nights, on any Regent ship.
  6. I've seen Regent enforce the dress code. And I agree they should enforce ALL rules, including the dreaded lounge chair hogging. I'm not a "pick and choose" type, I don't pick lounge chair hogging to enforce and ignore dress codes. But as a reasonable adult I also don't believe people should put an employee in the extremely awkward position of having to admonish and "explain" to them the published rules. And honestly, the term "dress police" is insulting, Just like someone who points out to someone that smoking on the balcony is forbidden isn't the "smoking police." And they aren't "self appointed," they're actually backed by the Dress Code.
  7. Perhaps not. I am a retired pilot. My flying skills are my flying skills, whether I show up in my double breasted "Navy" style uniform complete with 4 stripes and Captain's hat, neatly shaved and hair (what's left of it), and well groomed. OR I show up in flip flops, t-shirt (wife beater type) with some "message" on it, soccer shorts, 5 day old beard and disheveled hair that hasn't been combed or cut in months or more. I'm still the same pilot. Question is, will YOU get on my airplane? And if you say I won't matter to you, I'm throwing up the B.S. Flag! Of course it matters. The way people appear, including grooming and dress, makes a definite impression on others. It's simply a fact of our society. Also,,, and no one seems to mention this, A lot of people feel "I paid for this cruise, I should be able to dress as I wish." Well, I ALSO paid for the cruise, and I paid for it with full expectation of experiencing the cruise Regent advertises. So, just like I should have equal rights to a deck chair, no smoking in public areas or balconies, expect excellent service, cleanliness of spaces, shore excursions, food, and drink, I also have an expectation of decorum and ambiance. That includes the PUBLISHED dress code. I paid just as much with the "promise" that people will be dressed to a certain level after 6 pm. This is CLEAR (no confusion on my part anyway) and part of the "experience" I chose and paid for. So, doesn't matter why I care, what matters is this is part of why I chose Regent.
  8. Thanks... yes I'm keeping an eye on it. Nothing posted yet, but they just changed the itinerary. I figure the shore excursions, etc. will finally become available when at the year mark of the segment, but who knows (it's coming up in a few weeks). But I'm definitely watching for an overland or post cruise excursion like yours. 😎
  9. Yes. On your FINAL CRUISE VACATION SUMMARY it will denote the Formal Optional nights with an "F". As others have said, some dress up to the level of Formal and some don't. Just depends on the passengers and, it seems, itinerary. If a Caribbean cruise, probably less formal than a Northern European cruise (only my observations). But dress as you wish. On our Navigator cruise in 2022 there were men in tuxes, kilts, suits, sport coats with ties, sport coats without ties, and those dressed as any other day. We were in the North Atlantic, so cold weather. There seemed to be more in at least a sport coat. But dress as you wish. Also if there is no Formal Optional night, there will be a "Captain's Reception" night. People tend to dress better that night too. Not formal, but often coat and tie. Again....strictly YOUR choice.
  10. Regent contracts for deeply discounted fares. Since Covid, the airlines are understaffed and oversold. So contract fares are very hard to find, especially in Business Class. The only way to get those fares is to fly on the less desirable itineraries. So it isn't actually Regent "making it bad," it's simply a function of economics 101... high demand, low supply equals high prices.
  11. Sorry to jump in. If you phoned Custom Air with your requests, you can ask them if they have any "no additional cost" options available. I have done that within the last year and found the agents extremely helpful. It could be there just isn't any available on the day you want to fly. Regent contract air has been severely limited by the airlines since Covid. The airlines are experiencing a shortage of crews and aircraft and extremely high passenger loads. So they price accordingly. Their Business Class flights are their "bread and butter" so they are reluctant to discount the desirable routes. So Regent has to struggle to find flights with contract rates.
  12. I may have missed a post, so apologies up front. Was this a Regent shore tour? We are on the Grand Cruise next year that has been re-routed to now end in Cape Town.
  13. Excellent! We originally booked this cruise for Israel and Egypt, because (long story short) we were booked on the "ill fated" Voyager cruise last Oct. Well, I woke up on the day we were to leave for the airport with the dreaded Covid! Turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we had to cancel and I had insurance. A week later Hamas attacked Israel and the "rest is history." Anyway, found this cruise starting in Haifa, looked at the previous cruise, started in Istanbul, so what the heck..why not? Then saw the one before started in Barcelona and by the time we were done we'd booked 3 B2B cruises for a total of 32 nights!!!! 😱 Anyway, not surprisingly, the third cruise changed completely, but all three have amazing itineraries with a few repeats in some beautiful ports. 😎
  14. If that's on Mariner we will likely be there. We booked Barcelona to Barcelona a few months ago as the last leg (cruise you have booked) was scheduled Haifa, to Barcelona via Egypt. Obviously that changed, so now it'll be Barcelona to Istanbul to Trieste to Barcelona. Still, like you, the overnights they've added sound really interesting in order to really see some of the beautiful ports. One comment....if you don't know this.... the Trieste to Barcelona cruise is the last cruise for Mariner before she goes into major overhaul. So one wonders....what will the condition of the ship be? Anyway, may see you on board. 😎
  15. I wouldn't get concerned. I could speculate as to why, but that would only be speculation. The bottom line is that they'll get the excursions out and you can reserve them. Just keep watching the website. You can also call them and see if they have any info. But I wouldn't worry at all. If the shore excursions are listed with "wrong times," no problem... just reserve it and let them work the timing out.
  16. However... the cost of the cruise includes food and drinks, so I would suppose that 10% of the price includes food and drink... I think I have too much time on my hands too (at least my wife keeps telling me I do), and I can't blame it on recovering. 🀣 Hope your recovery goes well and you're back cruising soon.
  17. Wouldn't "one day short on a 10 day plus" actually BE 10% of the cruise?
  18. I may be totally wrong, but it may have more to do with being in a foreign region than bandwidth. I found I was unable to download kindle books when overseas. Haven't tried again in years as I learned pretty quickly to pre-load books. So don't know if that's changed or not. .
  19. I doubt Regent will do Expedition cruises, and Navigator really isn't configured. Expedition cruise ships are pretty much designed for that purpose and require the ability to carry a number of Zodiacs and there is really no place to put those on Navigator. But Navigator is perfect for smaller ports and unusual itineraries. I think they'll keep her for now, and hopefully will replace her with a new ship someday of about the same size. IMHO Regent tends to have the best itineraries of any cruise line (at least for me). So I hope they don't go to all larger ships that will be beautiful but more limited.
  20. We have a Grand cruise coming up and I added 17 days prior! Yes.. insurance is mind boggling!!! BUT, losing the cost of the trip is too. We were booked on a trip last year and I woke up on "fly to the port" day with Covid. Had I not been insured I would have been out a very significant amount. I just factor it into the cost of the cruise. One idea though, and I don't know how it works, some credit card will cover up to $20,000 of a cruise for free if you charge the cruise on that card. I'm looking at doing that but need to research it a bit. But check with your credit card company and see if they cover some portion of the the cruise. Would help.
  21. Just call Regent and explain how you want it. They'll make the changes for you. That's actually the only way you can change Shore Excursions once booked (until you get on the ship). They're very nice and easy to work with. And maybe they can get you on the morning tour, you never know. Give them a call.
  22. Just to add... you can likely get into one of the speciality restaurants without a reservation on boarding day. People seem to like to go to Compass Rose on that night so there is extra tables. In fact, on Grandeur in Jan. and Explorer in Feb. when we checked into Compass Rose they asked us if we'd like to go to either Prime 7 or Pacific Rim as they had tables immediately available. So we took off and grabbed Pacific Rim both times! 😎
  23. When you "waitlist" for an excursion then pick another, the "waitlisted" excursion is a priority. So if it opens and they can clear you they will clear you to the waitlisted excursion and drop the other one (or so it says). BUT, I would keep an eye on it and as soon as you board, go to Destination Services and see if anything has opened up. We did that and the excursion we waitlisted was open on Boarding Day but we didn't clear for it prior. So I assume it didn't open up until close in, Also remember that there's a definite time constraint on when you can cancel a Regent's Choice Excursion and be refunded (I think 36 hours but it's on their website). Also you'll likely find that most waitlisted excursions tend to open up. The one's without the option to waitlist are probably so heavily waitlisted that they're not taking any more names, but again, always ask upon boarding.
  24. I wont' dare speak for others, but for me and many others who have posted, Regent passengers care more about respect for other Regent, the crew members (who are forced to confront passengers), and fellow passengers, rather than being entitled and selfish and more than happy to put hard working crew members in a position of having to correct them at possible risk of anger and complaints. Maybe...JUST MAYBE... if everyone abided by the easy and flexible rules (yes including no smoking on balconies and no lounge hogging) then we wouldn't be having these discussions and the crew wouldn't be put in an uncomfortable situations. 😏
