  1. Maybe there was a mix up due to the fact that you turned Platinum during the cruise. I know you receive all the Platinum perks for the cruise, but perhaps they forgot the special disembarking instructions.
  2. I too think that you should look into ordering decorations for the cabin & maybe one of their cakes. The decorations are really cute & not very costly. I haven't had the cake, but I have heard that they are really good. You could certainly ask that the MDR staff sing happy birthday - but the only person who will probably enjoy it is the 5 year old (lol). Like someone else said, it doesn't feel really special because they seem to be singing Happy Birthday or Anniversary or Honeymoon every few minutes.
  3. In reference to all the cuts (particularly staffing), I'm not sure most people realize just how much it costs the cruise line for each staff member. Granted the salaries (at least for the low level positions) are minimal; however, unlike most land based companies, cruise lines are responsible for way more than salaries: Medical Costs Food & Board Uniforms (issue & cleaning) As the costs - particularly medical costs - increase something has to give. Unlike most companies, crewmembers do not contribute to medical insurance, nor do they make co-pays, or pay the 20% over what the insurance covers. I was a Purser onboard another cruise line & not only acted as the Paymaster (when all crew members were paid in cash), but also dealt with medical issues related to the crew. When there was something more than the onboard doctor could deal with, which was probably 50% of the issues, we had to schedule, transport and pay for medical care in every port. I can't tell you how much money (and time) that cost. In the 3 years I held this position, there had to have been at least 20 times that a crewmember had to be airlifted off the ship for medical care. I wasn't involved in the medical insurance claims, but I can tell you the largest expense in reference to crew was medical. Just something to think about when considering the cut in staff.
  4. Actually we ended up staying at a hotel in Ft. Lauderdale that is popular among cruisers and just driving for 30 minutes to the Miami port the next morning and parking at the pier. After researching the cost of a taxi or uber from the port to the hotel and the cost of the hotel stay, it just didn't seem worthwhile. I would have probably taken a taxi to the port from the hotel also, just because the last time we used a hotel shuttle it was a disaster. We were on the first shuttle (actually a large bus) and it seemed to take forever for the driver to put everyone's luggage in the bin and then he stopped at 3 other ships before reaching ours. It took almost an hour to reach our ship once we made it to the port - I real nightmare!
  5. I loved the Breeze (sailed on her 4 times) but the last was in 2016 and I've heard some not so great comments about her lately. I tend to eat at odd times, so I don't normally hit the long lines. We will be in a balcony on Deck 9, so I'm thinking we will be grabbing food on Lido & eating it on our balcony to avoid crowds. I'm very excited about Bermuda - I haven't been there since I worked on board (I was a gift shop girl for 2 years on 3 of their 4 ships a long, long time ago). We did 4 cruises to Bermuda when I was working on the Mardi Gras. I'll come back on when we get back and share my thoughts.
  6. I have sailed every class of ship on CCL - will be on the Breeze next week and it will be my 25th cruise with Carnival. I really liked the Paradise. I first sailed on her in 2016 after sailing the larger ships for the 3-4 years prior. I was a little apprehensive about going back to the smaller ships, but was pleasantly surprised. I will be going back on the Paradise for the 5th time in November. Not sure when you sailed on her, but she has been upgraded with the inclusion of Guys, Blue Iguana, etc. I think she's a great choice when you want to take a shorter cruise.
  7. Premier cruises seem to be the best deal by far. I took a dealers choice in July & will be on another in November. I sure wish the November cruise would change to Premier.
  8. Sometimes you get a better deal than the bounce back. For example, I am sailing on the Breeze in 10 days on a Premier deal (7 days to Bermuda) - $500 free play and my sister gets $1000, DOU, etc. for a total cost of $1743.54 - balcony on deck 9. If you deduct the free play - that would be a total of $243.54 for both of us. I received a Bounce Back offer from my last cruise on the Paradise & took the offer to book another cruise in January, again on the Paradise (4 days to Cozumel). After all was said and done, I booked an interior for two which cost a total of $421.04. No free play, just DOU. Four days in interior on Empress deck for $421.04 vs. seven days in Balcony for $243.54 (including free play of course). Something doesn't sound right (lol). If I would have given it a little more thought, I would have waited for my next Premier offer. The Bounce Back offers I've received in the last couple of years are no where near the offers back a few years ago, when you could book a balcony on a 7 day cruise for little more than taxes and port fees.
  9. I think that cruise lines typically give a discount on future cruises along with the refund when somehow they are "at fault" for the cancellation. I don't imagine any of the cruise lines affected by Hurricane Dorian will be giving a discount - they are already going to be out a lot of $$$. I don't think many cruisers would need to have an incentive to book again.
  10. I guess this is what confuses me. You've been on over 50 CCL cruises, but you just said that you never want to cruise Carnival again. So, why not just make one post expressing your displeasure and then move on to the boards of the cruise lines you will be traveling with. I am not a Cheerleader - I am someone who chooses to go into any experience with a positive attitude, but when I am disappointed with the product, I am also someone who chooses to move on. I guess I just don't understand why those of you who seem to hate CCL feel it's your mission to have others on CCL boards "see the light." I get that you may have had bad experiences - I'm not doubting that at all and you may have very valid reasons for how you feel about CCL, I just can't understand what your objective is - why waste your valuable time on this board? I guess I just don't get it.
  11. Totally agree. I had a great time the 4 times I was on the Breeze, but others had a different experience - I'm good with that - I don't expect everyone to have the same experience I had. I don't doubt what they say and understand their disappointment. The posters who make me crazy are always the same people (you know who you are) that for some reason come on the Carnival board to rant and rave. We get it - you think CCL is the worst cruise line in history - so, why do you keep coming to this board??? You no longer sail on CCL and want to warn everyone else off - don't you think that could better be accomplished on the boards of the lines you like? There are trolls everywhere - they know they aren't going to change anyone's mind on here - they just love to push people buttons. I always assume that they have little else going on in their life - so I actually feel bad for them - I just kind of skip over their comments.
  12. Although I don't use the lanyard, we gave ours to my step-grandchildren on our last cruise and they loved them. I'm not sure how you can "class-up" a lanyard. I cruise Carnival to enjoy myself and so far, they have delivered on my last 25 cruises. I don't need, nor expect, a gift to thank me for my business. If the gift is something I can use, great - if not, I'm not going to complain because it was, let's see FREE.
  13. I didn't realize they were the same. I've never done a 4 or 5 day Premier cruises. On my casino offers I've never seen 4 or 5 day Premier cruises, they've always been 7 day or longer. So, have they just renamed those to Getaway cruises? I just thought they were two totally different types of casino offers.
  14. Was this a Premier or a Getaway Cruise? It looks like the welcome note you showed was a Getaway note. I have been on Premier cruises every year & will be going on another next month on the Breeze. There have always been the Welcome Aboard Cocktail Party, Premier Check In and many special drawings for Premier guests. I have the mailer for the Sept. Premier I'm going on, and it lists all of the above. The Getaway Cruises are different than Premiers. They give a certain amount of Free Play, Drinks on Us, and maybe, like you stated, a few special drawings. They don't have the welcome aboard cocktail party or the special early check in. Sounds like you may be confusing the two - Getaway and Premier.
  15. I typically do not spend time laying out on sea days due to the crowds - though I may go out early in the morning, grab a drink, read & then pack it in when it starts to get crowded. I then spend quite a bit of time in the casino, go to trivia when it's a subject I like, relax on the balcony with my kindle, and take a little nap before taking a shower and getting ready for the evening.
  16. I've been on the Breeze 4 times although the last was 2 years ago. I will be going back on her next month to Bermuda. The Breeze has been my favorite of the 12 CCL ships I've sailed on. I never experienced what you did and hope that I won't experience it next month. Although I can give a bit of a pass on normal wear and tear, filth is harder to forgive. The only time I've experienced dirty public rooms is on cruises during the summer with a lot of younger passengers - hard to keep up with them unless someone is following behind them. I saw so many teenagers leaving food all over the place - dropping pieces of pizza on stairways - letting ice cream cones drip all over the floors - leaving plates wherever they happened to be (like on the pool decks, on the sides of hot tubs, etc). Although I would like to see staff keep them in line, it is obviously an issue with parenting. I've been known to stop younger teenagers and telling them to pick up after themselves - I was a teacher and still have that "teacher voice" (lol).
  17. I was on the Paradise last month and was never offered a sugar straw. I was given plastic straws without asking. As a matter of fact, I use a Tervis with a reusable straw and typically poor my drink in the Tervis so I would have to actually tell the bartenders not to give me a straw. I did purchase reusable straws from amazon - I think 25 or 30 were less than $10 - and gave those to a few family members that were traveling with us in case the Paradise didn't offer plastic straws. I'm not even sure if they ever used them. Not sure if it was just a non-issue on the Paradise.
  18. I spend way too much time in the casino - but if I'm on a 4 or 5 day cruise, I typically purchase CHEERS just because I hate waiting around for a drink when the casino is busy. On my next cruise which is a 7 day Premier Cruise, I've decided not to purchase CHEERS. Though I know the casino is much busier on the Premier cruises because so many have the DOU card, I'm just not sure I will break even with CHEERS. My plan is to order what I normally order - coffees, drinks at bars when not in the casino and going to the casino bar to order my own drinks when the casino is crazy busy - and see if I would have been better off with CHEERS. We'll see what happens.
  19. PhillyFan you are the best at giving great information quickly and without making people feel stupid for asking a question. Seriously, I appreciate you taking your time to help people out. I have the # for the Milestone Desk, so I'll call them today. I have 2 more cruises booked after this one, but they are little 4 day cruises (girl trips). This cruise is in a balcony on the 7 day Breeze to Bermuda - so 25% would be much better for me on this one. Again - thanks!
  20. I may be going on the Breeze next month solo as my sister may not be able to cruise due to a medical procedure. I've cruised solo 4 times and really enjoyed the me-time, but I am still uncomfortable eating alone - weird I know. I don't mind eating breakfast on the Lido while reading on my Kindle or while watching a download on my phone, but I just haven't been able to go to the dining room. I typically make a plate on the Lido at lunch and dinner & bring it back to the cabin to eat on the balcony. I have anytime dining, so maybe I'll give the MDR a shot this time.
  21. Thank you for the info. One more question - in reference to the 25% OBC, do I need to ask for it to be given on this cruise, or will it automatically be given? I've seen where some are saying that they chose to take it on a later cruise, so just wondering.
  22. I just realized that my upcoming cruise on the Breeze next month will be my 25th cruise. I didn't see anything on my documents signifying it was a milestone cruise for me - should I have?
  23. You're right - I did love it!! I challenge anyone to watch this and not smile.
  24. A cabin under the galley is definitely noisy. When cove balconies first came out, we booked two on the Dream. I didn't even think about the fact that the cabins were under the galley. Although the cabin I was in wasn't that bad, my sister's cabin was terrible. I swear it sounded like people were bowling with huge pans all night.
  25. It is normally the first 2 letters of the ship's name followed by maitred@carnival.com (ie Breeze is brmaitred@carnival.com. Using a list previously posted, these are the exceptions to the rule: The exceptions are: Fascination FS Splendor SL Inspiration IS Magic MC Conquest CQ Sunrise SN Sunshine SH Vista VA Freedom FD Horizon HZ If I've missed any, hopefully someone will correct me.
