Carnival Spirit to Alaska fastest embarking ever
kona_wahine replied to tallnthensome's topic in Carnival Cruise Lines
I did that cruise with my granddaughter June 29. It was just the best. Alaska is amazing. Hubby and I also did an NCL in May for our 40th. I’m obsessed now…. -
That’s correct! There are also 2 other docks that are not affected and are fully functional. Only one dock is not in service. Too many rumors saying Skagway closed for the season!

3rd Rock Slide in Skagway possible Closure of Port
kona_wahine replied to Wennfred's topic in Carnival Cruise Lines
So people understand, there are 4 docks in Skagway. Only one is closed. One is now just a tender dock, as it is behind the one that is closed. The other two are open and fine. Skagway is NOT closed. There has been MUCH confusion as to this on multiple sites. -
I’m not as worried about the return as the embark. We can always find a flight from cali to Portland.

NCL drops vaccine requirement after September 3rd

The testing is a waste of time. Especially the more then 5 days. Doesn’t make a difference. Hope it’s all gone by February -
Thank you!

Leaving on a Saturday to Saturday cruise. Flight from Portland lands at SNA 10:52 and out leaves 12:00 noon. Plan to carry off ourselves and just grab a cab both ways. As long as Alaska doesn’t change or delayed we should be ok, correct?

Is there still a bacon shortage? 🤣🤣
kona_wahine replied to Indianamale's topic in Carnival Cruise Lines
Went to Alaska 2 x this year, NCL had it every day. Carnival Spirit had it a couple times. Of course we paid 5x as much for the NCL cruise…. That buys A LOT of bacon! -
We are going on the Panorama in February, just got an offer we could NOT pass up. Man, I thought the Alaska cruise last month was a great offer. Happy birthday to me!

We went june 29th carnival spirit and the ship couldn’t get very close but I’ve read since it has gotten closer. Even so I’d take it. We also went to the other glacier, and saw many waterfalls, whales, and even stop and watched a bear for a bit. Amazing, beautiful place!

Was it completely different from the Caribbean? What type of excursions did you do? I’m soooo tempted!

Keep getting killer deals for Australia’s but….. that flight! Anyone from US or Canada been ? Just wondering your experience. It’s like 18 hours in the air, 21 hrs quickest with a 3 hour layover. I’m curious what the ports are like, what your see, what the scenic cruising is like.

Alaska from Seattle - Ketchikan to Victoria BC
kona_wahine replied to bar1068's topic in Carnival Cruise Lines
Just an fyi, we saw so much sea life that day, so many whales. Chris, the naturalist, would come in and report. It’s a really good day to be on alert to look out for all kinds of good stuff, whales, birds, fish, porpoises, etc. -
We sailed the Encore and we parked at the aft dock, the one clear at the back. They had golf carts and then shuttles to town if you didn’t want to walk. We booked thru the railway. They pulled up to the cruise dock first and loaded the cruise passengers first in the back and then pulled up a den loaded us. We had to walk over a bit, not real far, to the tracks. We had the 2 front cars.

I bet those are the same cubs that we were told about that were going up to people and tapping them on the leg. We were on the June 29 carnival spirit cruise and the shuttle driver told us the mother had released the cubs and they were creating some havoc in the park. We didn’t see them, although that would have been memorable. He also told us a large male was following the mama around. we saw 3 on our cruise, one was on a bear/wildlife excursion so YAY, but we did have a person with a gun with us, one was along the road, and one was during our Tracey arm fjord boat excursion. They all say bears don’t want to be around people, make noise, wear bells, whatever.

That’s how we saw this bear, just driving on the bus. Luckily someone spotted it and the bus driver stopped. (That is the backside of the bear, lol)

We cruised NCL Encore and the port times were way shorter then our 2nd cruise this year on the Carnival Spirit. We really enjoyed that cruise! Glacier Bay was very pretty but I think I enjoyed the excursion of the smaller boats to Sawyer Glacier more. We got right up to the glacier, near seals, whales, bears, the glacier calving, it was amazing!!! Even close enough to a waterfall that the spray got us wet.

Did Alaska cruises go down in price for 2023?
kona_wahine replied to Kitty Ellas Mom's topic in Alaska
Looking at prices for next year, compared to the STEAL of a DEAL I got this year, ugh…… I just can’t. Even. Begin. I’d love to go back and maybe a last minute next July will work out. We will see. -
If you do have to tender, as we did in Ketchikan last week, the Spirt they use the life boats, and I think they had 4 going at once. It was pretty quick.

We took the shuttle out to the glacier and really glad we did. We hiked to the waterfall, and then the short trail to the better view of the glacier. We spent maybe and hour and a half there. You would probably have plenty of time to do both the tram and the glacier. We had a dog sled excursion after the glacier. Fun.
