  1. We add some orange juice to our glass of PA which makes it quite drinkable. Funny/rude comments about Pol Aker seem to be a requirement of every Cunarder, but being honest here..isn't it lovely to be welcomed on board with a bottle of wine waiting to greet you. Doesn't happen on every line.
  2. We have only just booked for the Queen Victoria cruise to Northern Norway in October and most of the excursions (or at least the ones that interest us) are sold out. We are particularly keen on doing the Ofoten Railway trip out of Narvik but I have to confess that I don't completely understand the website, in particular the fact that we need to return to Narvik to get back on board the ship!!!!!! Can anyone here help me with the intricacies of booking a train journey on a foreign website?
  3. It is Devon House in Kingston which was the only highlight of a very disappointing shore excursion. Driver was supposed to stop along the route to allow for photos but either didn't or chose non-photogenic points. With hindsight we really should have complained.
  4. Although we already had a cabin we've been upgraded at check-in so I wouldn't worry.
  5. Not that I'm aware of. If someone took it along with their own that would mean no cases were left behind.
  6. This is the only photo I can find of possibly the worst shore excursion we've ever done. Promised lots of photo ops on the tour, there were none and we really should have asked for a refund. You'll probably need some help with this so.....If I say the choices were reggae or water I suspect that will give it away. If you feel that it isn't worthy of inclusion in any lists I'll totally understand!!!
  7. Apparently it's disputed who said it first!! A Sure Cure for Seasickness Is To Sit Under a Tree – Quote Investigator
  8. We nearly always book a guaranteed cabin and over our 12+ cruises have always had a good cabin but for our upcoming cruise on the Queen Victoria to the Canary Islands over Christmas our luck has finally deserted us as we are in Cabin 4008 which is not just forward, it is very forward! I think I may need help to alleviate any possible sea sickness so it's sea bands vs tablets. Do sea bands really work? A quick look on Amazon shows that there is plenty of choice so if anyone has recommendations please share. Or Am I better with tablets? Again, the question is which would you recommend? And most importantly, can I have a drink or two (or three!) if I'm on tablets? Don't want to spend a fortnight completely alcohol-free.
  9. Don't rule out Royal Caribbean. There is so much to do on their ships that you and the family will not be bored. Also, no one seems to have mentioned NCL? It's a good while since we sailed on any of their ships so I'm not up to date with everything, but I'm pretty certain that they cater for families. Have fun choosing!!
  10. Correct. We visited the normally pristine beach not long after a huge cyclone had hit the area and they were still attempting a clean up. Port Douglas itself was very pleasant.
  11. UPDATE: We booked the cruise this afternoon!
  12. 120 and a totally unexpected bonus cruise in just 47 days! Literally just booked it and can't wait.
  13. At an extortionate price I suspect!! 🤣
  14. I've been following a thread on another well-known social media website which could possibly impact upon all of us. Lady was on a cruise and stay holiday with P&O and as per all cruise lines her mum put her suitcase out on the last night ready for the staff to collect. Sadly at some point between then and disembarking the case disappeared. The insurance company, Staysure, is refusing to pay out as they are saying that she had left the case unattended. P&O are also being unhelpful. Where does this leave all of us?
  15. Have a look at www.cruisetimetables.com Go to the ports of departure button and then look for the UK. Lists all ports used, not just Southampton
  16. Having read your comments I had decided to tell DH that we should go ahead and book the cruise BUT our computer has just literally rolled over and died. Our daughter is a software developer and is trying to get it back to a point where we can nurse it until Black Friday but it's not looking good. Asking DH to fork out for a cruise at this present time may not be a good idea. 🤬🤬
  17. If it was left to me I'd have booked days ago but DH is much more cautious than I am. We've already had one land based holiday and one cruise this year and have the Christmas and New Year cruise on the Queen Victoria drawing ever closer so we're not short of holidays. However, with the cost of living rising he's become much more aware of what we are spending on a day to day basis and that is what is holding him back. If it was just any cruise then I can find something definitely within a price range that would accommodate him, but he really fancies a northern lights cruise. Not sure which way this will end; more than likely with nothing, but at least we have the one booked cruise to look forward to.
  18. DH is (very surprisingly) eyeing a Northern Lights cruise in October but, putting it bluntly, even at the very good price being quoted, he feels we can't justify it - we have a cruise booked for Christmas and New year. Crystal balls out please and do you think that the price might drop further?
  19. Just how strenuous is the land portion? Sadly, although I use a stick, my mobility is not as good as it could be and it concerns me that I may struggle. I also worry that I could 'slow' everyone down which is something I would hate to do.
  20. I am sure that this has been asked before but I can't find it so apologies for repeating a question. What, if any, are the benefits of booking a cruise whilst you're already on board? I am looking at Alaska for next year but for a variety of reasons cannot book just now. However, by December when we will be on the Victoria things should be clearer and we could well be in a position to book. I'm in the UK if that makes any difference.
