  1. the vista suits are very similar to verandah rooms - except for location, bed closer to bed vs sofa, and perhaps a few extra sq feet. I would imagine the sleeper would be the same. Having slept on the sleeper in a verandah - I'm 5'6" ... is it comfy, not exactly. I put the duvet (folded double) under me to make the bedding softer. The sofa went to the edge of the desk. If you have 3 people traveling - it's the economic choice. But it has a price.
  2. I hope they offer it in 2025 or 2026. I'm doing the Alaska 28 day next Summer and pole to pole would be too much for one year, both in cost and time away from home.
  3. I believe if you get the Elite package non-alcoholic doesn't count towards the 15. None of my group was able to hit 15 anything on this last cruise... and that includes 2 x 20 somethings. If you can do more than 15 - you will certainly be well hydrated. My bigger issue with either package is it is difficult to keep tabs on where you are to the 15. But like I said, we might have hit 10 one day so it wasn't a true concern for us
  4. ok but spending $5000 on HAL at 2 x points is only 10,000 points. To get the 25,000 points you are referring to would be a $12,500 on HAL or a lot more on non-HAL purchases.
  5. Pay for your entire cruise. When you return - you should be able to redeem your points as a statement credit towards the travel. I believe you have 90 days after sailing to apply the points. (At least it used to be that way. You should check that this is still the process).
  6. HAL's card through Barclays isn't what it used to be. It was better in earning points and WAY better in redeeming points. If you are considering a card - yes the generic travel cards like Chase Sapphire card offer great benefits. Currently I am trying to decide what airline I will book to go to Alaska next June. It will either be Delta or Alaska as they both go direct from ATL. On top of the sign up bonus of enough points to get one person's ticket free, with the card you don't pay for luggage. I'll sign up for the card, earn the points and spend through the Spring, use the free luggage on our trip and then cancel the card before the annual fee is due.
  7. The article mostly talks about bigger infrastructure and systems tracking. The fact that these lines DON'T have one system after 30+ years of being co-owned is shocking. I understand these things take time and money, but, unless they have a back end that can combine and analyze the data (which it doesn't sound like) then I'm shocked. This article doesn't mention passenger data besides demographics. Of course they are gathering info. That's why they ask your cabin number when you walk into the main dining room. I'm not one that believes they are looking at ME, but my demo of person - where do I eat, when do I eat, what days do I eat where. What do I drink? Some of this is for inventory planning. I'm sure they also do - well only 4% of the people ordered the pasta dish tonight - and they're all people in their 40's... The data is there. What they do with it will hopefully lead to a better journey down the road.
  8. Anything and everything from the Grand Dutch Cafe. And just about anything made by the bakery, especially the Krentenbollen (tho technically these aren't made with currents but raisins so they should be called rozijnenbollen).
  9. I used to have a card also and would use it as credit towards my statement for my HAL on board spend or final payment. Their redemption rate used to be tiered - if 20,000 points = $200. Then it was like 45,000 for $500 and like 80,000 for $1000.... But then the program was revamped and I decided to get a generic travel card instead.
  10. Go into your settings on an iphone, go to app settings, and navigator and you can turn on the settings as POA showed in his post above.
  11. in March there were two strays there. One spent the day under our chairs, hanging in the shade. They weren't very interactive but didn't mind getting some love.
  12. And it looks good for the stockholders to show ships that much closer to capacity.
  13. A friend treated us to one two times. I think they were $400 or maybe $500. Now they're $699 for Dec. I didn't think they were worth $400 and certainly not for $700. No way.
  14. Before Covid my sister and I had the HAL 14 day booked. When that cruise was cancelled we rebooked for the next year. That was cancelled because the Maasdam was sold. So we rebooked one HAL RT cruise from Seattle and the day after a RT from Vancouver (or the other way around - I can't recall). That did cut down on some of the repetitive ports - let us experience different days at sea and enjoy the trip to/from the two departure ports. Alas those cruises were also cancelled. Now we're beyond excited to go next June for 28 days on the Alaska Solstice trip.
  15. did you try HAL Facts? https://halfacts.com/pinnacle-class/ They don't have your exact room but do have several neighboring rooms.
  16. I guess things have changed then. I got them for an upsell in 2010.
  17. Since it's an upsell - you do get double credits because you are paying for the upgrade. If you were given a free upgrade, you do not.
  18. I was browsing the Early Booking Bonus cruises and noticed this gem... 21 day Caribbean roundtrip from Boston. Nice to see HAL offering some new trips from Northern ports. Sorry it's after I left CT. I had always hoped for the return to NYC. It's a pretty decent itinerary - including Bermuda and Panama. Leaves Oct 2024 if you're interested. Zuiderdam. Followed by a 14 day repositioning Boston to FLL.
  19. that 2 week looks like a wonderful itinerary. enjoy!
  20. We stashed... got cans of Truly (told the bartender not to open) and kept them in ice in our room.
  21. water is included. on my last cruise we had cans. I believe HAL is trying to do all cans to help with recycling efforts on board (only needing one type vs aluminum and glass...)
