  1. I've not sailed from Vancouver in Oct to Hawaii, but several times from CA. I imagine it is somewhat the same. Pretty cool the first 36 hours, getting warmer as you get further south. Plan accordingly, like maybe do your spa day in that first day at sea and plan indoor activities. But even so, there will be people sunning themselves by the pool, even if it is 19° (66°) out.
  2. Was this picture taken in Australia??? 😆
  3. I would not stay above 3rd Street in Downtown Long Beach. If you want to use points, the Westin or Renaissance would be my first pick of Marriott hotels. But if it is just one night, I'd stay at the DoubleTree or Crowne Plaza in San Pedro. The area restaurants are fine and the convenience is great.
  4. You don't even need to go "north" of Long Beach. Three to four blocks north of Ocean Ave or Broadway can be bad. Long Beach goes from nice to bad in a very short space.
  5. I've used Elite Limo and Pacific Monarch for corporate events for large groups.
  6. What is your hotel budget? How long is the cruise? Are you looking for a Stay & Park deal? Without knowing those things, my general advice is stay at the Hotel Maya DoubleTree or Residence Inn. If you can't get a Stay & Park deal, park in the garage at the cruise port.
  7. I'd stay in St. Helena (Harvest Inn or Wine Country Inn) or Yountville (Maison Fleurie or Lavender Inn).
  8. You DO NOT want to do an excursion to Pearl Harbor. Read the two websites below, https://www.recreation.gov/ticket/233338/ticket/16 That is the reservation site. https://www.hawaii.com/culture-historic-info/tickets-uss-arizona-memorial/ That is the site for general information. You can book 8 weeks in advance, or the day before. It is very easy to get a cab to go to Pearl Harbor.
  9. There are a lot of very bad areas in Long Beach. I'd be very cautious in booking an Airbnb.
  10. When we are in our Coronado CA home we are about 75 miles north of Ensenada. We actually enjoy Ensenada a lot more than Tijuana. Ensenada still has some charm to it, some good dining and shopping. We like Rosarito Beach even better, but I don't think that is an option when ships stop in Ensenada. The Valle de Guadalupe is an option for an excursion, and we love the Valley. We do quick weekend getaways there for relaxation and wine tasting. The gracious haciendas and hills of vineyards are how I imagine Baja California 200+ years ago after the Spanish arrived.
  11. The question was about "must do" restaurants near the ports and their port stop on Maui is Kahului. Mama's is the only place that I'd class as a "must do" near the Kahului port. Personally Sam Sato's is my favorite Central Maui restaurant, but I don't think it meets others idea of a "must do" place.
  12. The Hotel InterContinental, Residence Inn Bayfront and SpringHill Suites Bayfront are directly across from the cruise terminal and sit in the BRIC parking footprint. https://bricsandiego.com/
  13. I am sure I mentioned the Olympic, if not this thread, then many other "where to stay in Seattle"threads. I don't mention it or the Four Seasons since the people who are asking seem to be looking for chea.... errr, value hotels. The Olympic is great. Always has been, probably always will be. It is a great location too.
  14. For anyone going on a cruise from San Pedro or Long Beach, no never.
  15. No place in a block or two that I'd recommend. Von's Market (Safeway) and Cabrillo Liquors would be my two recs for "close" and both are about 1 mile away.
  16. Luckily you arrive on Ground Level and the Highway is elevated and provides a bit of shade.
  17. There are several places "close". Not sure what "really close" is.
  18. Hotels with a shuttle for the airport (LAX, LGB, SNA), free or otherwise, are near the airport. Hotels with a shuttle for the port (LA or LB), free or otherwise, are near the port. No hotel offers shuttles for both. Perhaps a concierge from the Crowne Plaza or DoubleTree San Pedro could arrange a paid shuttle/limo to their hotel from an airport, but that is as close as you would get to a "hotel with an airport shuttle and a cruise port shuttle".
  19. Glad you knew what city they were talking about!
  20. I do know, and no; there are no hotels that offer airport and cruise port shuttles. San Pedro is way too far from LAX or even LGB, for that matter, for a free shuttle.
  21. Ones to price out are the Courtyard by Marriott, Marriott Fisherman's Wharf, Holiday Inn Express, Columbus Motor Inn, Hyatt Centric, Hotel Zoe and Holiday Inn Fisherman's Wharf. The best, if price isn't an issue are the Hotel Argonaut, Hotel Zephyr, The Fairmont and Kimpton Alton.
  22. Laguna Beach Beer Company in Huntington Beach is nice, so is Left Coast Brewing Distillery Smokehouse in Irvine. The Belmont Brewing Co in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach is great as well. It is about 4 miles from the Pacific Inn. https://goo.gl/maps/YtvXBgA8h4catfEv9
