  1. Totally agreed. I was prepared that I would get COVID on the ship on each of my last 3 cruises even while I avoided elevators and crowded areas. Did not join any group excursions. I also knew that I would just drive home to isolate and had no chance to get stranded in a foreign port. Fortunately, I did not catch it. If one cannot afford to get sick by COVID because of medical conditions, it is best to stay off the ships. The risk is very different from a land based vacation.
  2. Sorry to hear that. What you described is a very likely scenario where she might have caught it as this variant is super transmissible. Well they say that on every variant pretty much...Or you might just be the lucky one that the virus just is not able to latch onto you. A friend of mine is like that no matter where he goes and what crowd he is with, he never got symptoms...or that he is unaware of whether he was (+) or not.
  3. I did not have Plus. I had medallion app on two phones, 1 for each guest. I purchased net on one phone 1day before embarkation and had the $5/day/device price. On the day of embarkation, I used another phone and it shows $7.5/day/device price. Both show 50% elite/platinum discount. One with preboarding discount price. Hope this helps.
  4. Even the Princess CVP sometimes can refare but there are times that she has to rebook a new booking, wipe out all my DMY reservations. What can you do?
  5. Yeah, agree with the sneezing part. But with coughing, not much is "norm" these days!
  6. It isn't so difficult to wear a mask if one is coughing or sneezing, is it? Unless there is a medical reason not to...
  7. It appears then that the transmission rate on that particular sailing is quite high (higher numbers of carriers) that the odds were stacked against you.
  8. Just curious, did you dine indoors where physical distancing was not possible?
  9. They don't need to ask and check your status anymore. Your medallion has already given them your name, your profile picture and your status. It also happens when you walk into any shop or restaurants, anywhere on the ship when there is a scanning device.
  10. I have done 3 cruises in the past 6 months. I think most reasonable people would agree that vacationing with stress is not a preferred way of vacation. Not about "living with fear". Judging from this thread, it is about stress on a vacation.
  11. I would not have confidence to wait till within 30 days of the sailing date as by that time, choices would be limited and the fare would be much higher. In my case with HAL flight ease, I had that dreaded message about flight change and not available to make any changes, it turned out the airline had cancelled the entire flight but the system is stuck without a human intervention.
  12. People were suggesting to take the coach or Amtrak to head south...
  13. Thx! While you are at it, is there any sleep timer setting for the TV? 🙂
  14. Thank you for this. I did not have DMW issue making reservation for my last 3 cruises but have issue now for all my upcoming cruises (Reservation not available). Called and followed the prompts and reached a foreign call center. Someone answered but it became very annoying that I had trouble understanding him and his having problem hearing me due to all the noise in the call center. I gave up and ended the call.
  15. Another case of well intended public health rules with unintended consequence.
  16. Well, according to this link https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/isolation You must go directly to the place where you will isolate and stay there for 10 days. This is mandatory and starts the day you arrive in Canada. If you test positive in Canada (for example, when you arrive or on your Day-8 test), you must isolate for 10 days starting on the date you took that test. Does this apply upon cruise disembarkation if test (+)ve?
  17. You are not given a key card for the cabin.
  18. Alaska cruises summer season would be running at near if not at full capacity. You can bet there would be a lot of (+) cases if you test the pax and it would be a nightmare to manage their quarantine care given Canada's quarantine requirement from cruiselines' perspective. Yes it is US test requirement but it is Canada's quarantine requirement (10 or 14 days?). And the cruise lines really need to make some profit after the last 2 years.
  19. Yes, I thought the same about the escargot - not a hint of garlic flavor or aromar! That was on Discovery!
  20. Come to think of it, not providing test for flying back to home country perhaps is a deliberate way to steer US pax (which is probably a majority on board) to cross the border on land so that neither pax or cruise line has to deal with all the logistics and financial headache associated with what a (+) test would bring upon pax and the cruise line.
  21. The program should be renamed to "Cruise with No Confidence". Lol.
  22. Found this on HAL's forum, haven't read thru it myself.
  23. If they anticipate the change, they should have put that as the effective date for not providing test to return to home country from Canada, not dropping the change on people with no advance advisory!!!
