  1. Thanks for the link to Ms. Duffy's comments. I guess "Grand Bahamas"/Freeport did not initially sink into my mind. Does CCL see Margaritaville at Sea a competitor of which CCL needs to be concerned? Why is a new tender marina needed if there is a new pier? And, where might that pier be located?
  2. If we all find ourselves on the same cruise, maybe we ought to have our own M&G! I had one as well. We would discuss the menu for some time while the waiter would keep coming back asking if we were ready to order. When a "decision" would be made--I thought--and I would tell the waiter "yes, we are ready". She sometimes would say: you order for me. This was at the start of her dementia. I didn't understand at that time. Now, I do.
  3. Alaska Fish & Chips Company. They are in the green building at the head of the cruise ship docks. They are in the same building as Hanger in the Wharf Restaurant is located. (I have not tried them.) They have an indoor and outdoor seating area with the outdoor area overlooking the float planes and the first ship at dock. Nothing fancy, just good service and food.
  4. The roughest seas that I have experienced have not been on the Atlantic. The northern Pacific Ocean can be rough, but, sailing at the tail end of a typhoon will provide quite a "ride". Then, there is the infamous Tasman Sea. I have sailed it when King Neptune was having a good day and when his Majesty was rather upset.
  5. Ah, the good old days on a HAL ship. But, it was not a "luxury" cruise experience as "luxury" is defined in 2022. What was it? It was "classy". And, in my early cruising experiences, it was "unique".
  6. I start trying to find menus online soon after I book a cruise and start the "anticipation" process. I may be weird. But, I really enjoy doing that. It gives me some time to reflect before arriving in the dining venue and, then, having to decide rather quickly what to order.
  7. If it's Monday; if it's Juneau; it's a rainy day. At least, that is what I recall from the most recent Mondays when the HAL ships are in port. Not me! I am hungry for the Halibut and Chips from my favorite Juneau restaurant!
  8. Jamestown, Yorktown, and Williamsburg? I agree with you. Virginia Beach and Norfolk? I disagree. I have enjoyed many pleasant vacation days staying at Virginia Beach and visiting the attractions of Norfolk as well as other areas in the Tidewater region.
  9. When one visits Grand Turk and sees the narrow channels along the piers, I wonder why it would not have been a wiser idea to dredge much wider areas in order to allow the ships to more easily dock.
  10. When I patronize the Tamarind, I do so because I want to experience their Asia Fusion dishes. A steak with onion rings is not what I think of as Asian Fusion cuisine.
  11. Who are these clients? What percentage of their clients are retirees? If so, then their retirees are properly invested in the 60-40 percentages for clients of that type. Amen! Yes. It is. Make investments in quality companies. Hold. Nibble, if one wants, to add to holdings. Reinvestment of dividends and capital gains is a great gift an investor can receive. Diversify one's investments among individual securities and mutual funds whose objectives differ. CCL and RCI will again return to profitability and dividends will return. When? How many times can I type this? 😀 My crystal ball has been in the repair shop since March, 2020. Parts are not available. Supply chain issues, I understand. 🤣
  12. I have had the onion rings at PG and I agree that they lack any zing. They need to use the same recipe that is used for the Dive-in's French Fries. The onion rings served at the Frisch's Big Boy Restaurants in my area are better than the onion rings served in the Pinnacle Grill.
  13. No. I can enjoy a quality lobster dinner at a few of my upscale restaurants where I live. Dover Sole's availability is nil.
  14. Me too! Didn't try to make a reservation when I was on their web site. It did seem possible to do. Maybe you are requesting a date to far in advance? As another poster suggested, call them. Ask for a window table.
  15. I am a 5 Star Mariner on HAL and have enjoyed this perk many, many times. As an Elite Captain's Circle Member on Princess, I am almost certain that I was able to take advantage of this as well.
  16. No. I would not do that at a restaurant owned/operated by this Chef. I do not care for deconstructed cuisine. Probably all of his cuisine is not of that type. But, I was sufficiently disappointed that I wouldn't ever consider doing so when there are other options available that I think would be more satisfactory for me.
  17. Onion Rings at the Dive-in! Using the same recipe that is used for the French Fries--OMG--I'd really like that! Don't recall any popcorn on my last HAL cruise either. If there was any prepared and served, the non-movie viewers grabbed the bags before we movie viewers could get ours.
  18. Yes, water shoes are recommended, but, I am unsure about Ocean Cay's beaches. Heard no comments about that after MSC Meraviglia visited Ocean Cay. I have been more successful in making Half Moon Cay visits than not. A "maybe" interesting story for some: a Christmas/New Year's sailing from Port Everglades for both my Prinsendam and the Maasdam. Both ships first port of call was Half Moon Cay. Maasdam sailed first; Prinsendam sailed a few minutes later. Before we sailed, our Captain announced that we were skipping Half Moon Cay because of the weather forecast which predicted tendering would not be possible. We would proceed to our next port and would arrive early. The Maasdam's Captain chose to go to Half Moon Cay and found that the weather forecast was correct. Tendering could not be accomplished. Half Moon Cay can be a crap shoot. A pier would be helpful, but, even with pier at Ocean Cay, the wind and sea conditions also prevent MSC ships from docking there. May not be a true private "island". But, how do you think their marketing department is going to describe it?
  19. Sometimes, in my experience, there will may be one hosted solos event and it will be on embarkation day at the most inconvenient time possible for any solos who dine during second seating. One has a choice: attend the solos event, miss dinner, dine in the Lido, or choose first seating dinner. Any other solo events scheduled will be non-hosted. And, poorly attended. On long cruises, such as world cruises, solo events are better scheduled, usually are hosted, and reasonably well attended. I have enjoyed meeting other solos and participating with some of them on shore excursions as a result of these events.
  20. I hope I am not "overselling" the Main Theater entertainment I attended (this was in January, 2020), but, I was very pleased. When was the last time that one was offered an opportunity to attend a shortened Opera performance on a cruise ship? Both the male and female lead had very good opera quality voices and were one-half of the leads of the Broadway style shows.
  21. Or, accept the offered drink and take one of the miniature bottles with you and augment the drink.
  22. I am probably getting my loyalty perks among cruise lines confused, but, doesn't MSC Diamond/Black status provide free laundry?
  23. Those would be the shows in the ship's Main Theater. If they are like what were presented when I sailed on Meraviglia, you will not be disappointed.
  24. I was unaware that this type of show has returned. I really enjoyed the Cirque show that I attended on Meraviglia. (The drink was what---maybe a Bahamas Mama?--left something to be desired--like more alcohol!)
  25. Have you been trying to make a reservation at Anthony's Bell Street Diner or at Anthony's Pier 66? I am looking at Anthony's web site as I type this and it says that the Bell Street Diner is still temporarily closed. The more upscale restaurant, Anthony's 66, is open as is Anthony's Fish Bar.
