  1. Good morning all. Thanks to those who contribute to make this such a special place. Happy Holiday to all. Holidays can be hard for solos and seniors. Please remember to call or check on someone who will be so thankful that someone remembered.
  2. My goodness, you would be leaping loungers, dodging walkers and stumbling into those that just stop to view the grandness of cruising. Please don't try to run on the promenade. It hurts to be knocked to the deck by someone running.
  3. Good morning all. Yesterday they came and desurfaced our street. They had so many men and equipement I just watched. Then about noon today they plan to resurface the road with hot asphalt. None of the neighbors can figure out why as we had one of the best streets in Mobile. No pot holes, no cracks or anything. Surface seemed really nice. It will be hard to do better then what we had. I plan to take my other son and grandson out to lunch to beat the pavers.
  4. I'm sorry that happened to you. You should note that on reviews and on HALFACTS and the other unnamed site. I had a very loud snorer in a joining room and once a baby who cried a lot but I think you have that beat by a long ways. Did you try talking to them or have housekeeping suggest they tone it down as their personal details were being shared with the whole neighborhood with their loudness?
  5. Good morning all. Last night we went to the Mobile Christmas tree lighting. It was packed. One thing was to make it feel like it was snowing they used soap bubbles. We have spent too many winters with feet of snow so an evening of 50 degrees was pleasant.
  6. Good morning everyone. lt is cold today and we have warnings of a freeze alert. Seems silly to me who lived with nights below zero and days on end that never got above freezing. But for here, a few days getting down to 35 at night is alarming. And I must say, it feels cold even to me. Maybe because I threw all my winter stuff away, I must have as I can't find anything warm in the mornings. Still nice to be here as I know it will warm to 65. The drink sounds really good. I will watch for the meal and port. Thanks everyone for making this such a good place to visit each morning.
  7. There is breakfast every day in the dinning room, just half an hour earlier on port days. Lunch in the dinning room happens on sea days.
  8. Good morning all. Thanks to those who contribute to make this a must read. Today I should get my luggage tags and that will help make the trip seem more real. So far I haven't opened the suitcase I packed. And since we won't know about special events until I am already on board, I will have to make do with whatever is in the suitcase. It is getting very cold here. I went out to kayak and as I set at the launch everyone else chickened out. They said it was too cold. So I came home. Prayers for everyone.
  9. Good morning all. A big disappointment this morning when I found out that they aren't sending out information for the grand voyages. I was looking forward to having the excitement happen as each piece came through. Oh well, I guess the marketing department decided that just posting the theme nights and packages and crew on line was enough and that won't happen until a week before. By then I will be already on board and know who the crew will be, have my shipped luggage delivered, so no hope of bringing special things for special nights. It is a disappointment that seems silly but I will get over it as my boarding date is just a month and two days away.
  10. Good morning all. I survived my first Chili Cook off. There were chilly temperatures, and news reporters with cameras, power outages and tons of people. But even with three professional chefs competing my son won twice. He got best for Carnivores and Best of Show. I was so proud.
  11. Good morning all. Thanks for all the information everyone shares including Rich. Today I will put the finishing touches on the chili. Two gallons is a lot more then I thought. I guess it's been a while since I fed the whole family and one person is so different. I have enjoyed having my grandson for the weekend but will look forward to me time tomorrow. Prayers for all.
  12. Last night we went to an art walk and celebration in Mobile. My son was asked to fill in for an absent member of the puppet group. Here is a picture of him. I think blue with that cute orange hairstyle is adorable. Grandson and I had a ball too. He spent the night with me and will be here to help get my entry into the vegan chili cook off started. Prayers for all. Thanks for the contributions that make this a great place.
  13. Happy Veterans Day. Thanks everyone for your contributions that make this a special thread. I finished packing my suitcase that will be picked up in three weeks. I'm not excited at all. I just want to be ready. And luckily it weighs in at 45 pounds so if I leave it alone everything should be fine. I am going to an art walk tonight with son and grandson and we will grab pizza before. I am enjoying Mobile. So warm and sunny.
  14. Thank you all who post. Thanks Rich and Roy. It sounds like the Rotterdam had an exciting adventure with the rescue and an extra day of sailing. Glad everyone is safe. I need to run into town today to do one of those multi trip things. Glasses here, and then red cabbage there. But so far none of the stores has the purple red cabbage so it may be several stops to find. I've been searching for a week now. I will need it for my famous vegan chili for the vegan chili competition on Sunday. I hope everyone stays safe and well. Prayers for all.
  15. Melisa @HAL Sailer, please be safe in your driving. And I hope your family home is safe both now and after Nick passes.
  16. What can I say but prayers for those on ships affected by Nick and for those who are on land both hoping to get on a cruise or those living in the path.
  17. Thank you for letting us know. I have been worried too. Nice to know it's just an internet issue and all are well.
  18. Good morning all. And thanks for the contributions. I spent hours trying to get my Mother's sewing machine to work. My sister had just used it when she was here visiting and I have used it before. After coming back to it several times, I gave up for the day. Today I will read the directions and see if I missed some step. If all else fails read the instructions. Hope everyone has good things happen today.
  19. Good morning everyone. Thanks to all who contribute. Enjoying the early sunshine. I am hoping that the last four informational booklets for our Grand South America cruise arrive this week. I've been told that even the World cruisers have not received this information and we both leave on the same day from the same port. It was first promised by 90 days out then 60 days out, and we are now 57 days out. Oh well, at least we are going and life is good. Prayers for all.
  20. Thanks Rich and all for the regular posts. I feel so good when I visit like coming home to family. Today is beautiful and sunny but yesterday it poured shortly after I finished some yard work. It is amazing to see all the new rivers formed by a heavy rain. My son came over with his ladder and checked on what sounded like a big branch landing on the roof last night. He found nothing and told me it was probably just a possum falling from the big oak onto the roof. At least there was no damage. Hope everyone is having a great weekend.
  21. Happy Saturday everyone. I have been so busy I forgot what day of the week it was until my son reminded me that it was Saturday. Yesterday went as well as can be with the eye doctor and Costco remaking my glasses. But the lady at Costco reminded me that they will have to sell ten more pair of glasses to pay for remaking mine. I am not sure what she wanted me to do. It wasn't my mistake. I got three batteries worth of weed eating done before the storm set in and it has been pouring since. My guest room bed is covered with things for suitcases. It's fun to have room to spread things out and plan. In my cabin in Oregon, there wasn't room to do this kind of organizing, so it's fun to take my time. Thanks everyone for their contributions to our Daily, and prayers for all.
  22. I called and they scheduled it for Dec. 9. They said they could deliver it to my cabin on the cruise before the Grand for no extra cost so I said why not. It will be a relief to have it early just in case.
  23. Good morning all. I got my new glasses and can't see a thing. Costco is blaming the doctor for the wrong prescription and the doctor says they has had nothing but trouble from their glasses so I get to go back to the doctor today and they will sort it out. Fun fun. I spent two hours there last time. I got my luggage pick up scheduled for the Grand South American and the Antartic, so that is good. Did a suitcase search yesterday and found I needed to purchase another one that is bigger then anything I have. Prayers for all and wishing happy times for everyone.
  24. If you like sailing out of San Diego, consider doing the Panama Canal cruise to Fort Lauderdale and then back to San Diego. The casino cruises will let you do two at once. And it brings you back to being not far from home. Great way to spend 35 days of winter.
