pool chairs saved?

Okay, when we have gone on vacations at different resorts I have always "saved" our chairs in the morning. BUT, it was never an issue with anyone not having a chair that needed one. So, do these people do this with the intent to be at the pool all day, or are they trying to save them for later in the day when it gets real hot. I can see myself going up there at 9am and putting my towel down, going for breakfast then going back to my chair for the day. I'm on vacation and I love to sit by the pool with a few cocktails....Is is wrong if I save it for an hour??? This is our first cruise so I really have no idea. I DO NOT agree with those people who put towels on the chairs and come back hours and hours later. That's not fair at all.

Yes, there are rules against it... and if you spot a chair that has been saved (not occupied for say 20-30 minutes) you can remove the items and take the chair, or notify a crewmember and they will remove the items for you... If you want a spot by the pool, get there early and get one like everyone else... Putting a towel down and going to do your own thing and then coming back is chair saving... period. There are signs posted that tell you not to do it... Eat breakfast and then get your chair, or go get breakfast and eat it in your chair...

I love to sit by the pool and have cocktails too, I think many do... the problem is too many people go and lay their towel down on a chair, go off for an hour or so and leave many without a chair! It's inconsiderate and rude. Wake up earlier if you have to...

I'm afraid by 9:00 a.m. all the chairs on the pool deck will be full . . . with towels, sandals, a book and just about everything else . . . except for people.

Okay, we will be getting up early for sure!! I promise I will not save any chairs...I have no problem eating in my chair if I have to......I'll sleep in it if I have to...LOL

LOL, if you are an early riser it should not be a problem finding a chair... and yes, even if you get to the pool at 7, there will be plenty of "saved" chairs... gotta love the ones that lay down their $22 Carnival towel.... that'll be the one I take on my excursion with me :D

Unfortunately, it's a problem that seems to perpetuate itself.

Too many times, I've wanted to sit out by the pool and not been able to find chairs for my husband & me. Sometimes, we end up finding a couple on the side of the ship, between the two wind-barriers ~ other times we end up watching everybody while leaning on a banister for a few minutes, then going back inside and finding something else to do.

I really want to be near the pool, see the band, see the people ~ not in the area between these glass walls that seem to be "no man's land" ~ something I can tell you I haven't been able to do on any cruise I've been on yet. We've even tried the "Euro Deck". It's windy, it's away from everything, and we don't enjoy it as much.

We'd like to participate and "be in the action" at least a little bit. It's not fair to fellow cruisers to save chairs all day long and not even use them. Saving the chairs "in case" you want to be on the Lido deck is wrong. Some people actually WANT to use those chairs, but instead, they're crowding you at the casino (or wherever) because they can't. 3000 people on a ship, 6000 seats taken.

I've been tempted more than once to save my chairs. I haven't yet, but I'm thinking about it this time. I just can't see an end to the situation; Carnival doesn't do a thing about it. On my next cruise, we have 4 ports of call, therefore I've got 3 days at sea coming up which I would like to enjoy, including the embarkation day. Me and every other cruiser on board.

What are other options? Aside from removing someone's things and putting them on the floor ~ which could end up in a fighting match that I'm simply not interested in.

It's a hot topic indeed, but as many times as it's come up, I've never seen a great solution to the problem. The only solution is for Carnival to take a pro-active stance on the situation.

I've not been on a cruise but I've been in the same situation at resorts. If I see no one around and all of the chairs 'saved', I will move someone's things for one chair for me. Not for everyone in my party but just me.

People love to save nine chairs and only three people ever show up.

Oh boy this is indeed a hot topic!!! I can't beleive the chairs will be gone by 9am!! I do get up early, usually 5:00am. So, guess I will be watching the sun rise every morning. I do not wish to get in to a screaming match either!! So, I guess the only option is to go and stay!!! About how many chairs are on the lido deck?

well the funnel deck usually has lots of chairs available!! :D

We will usually get a place right in the middle of the funnel deck that is behind the covered railing so that it blocks the wind. It is private too, and I can bask in the sun without people ogling.... :)

I hate trying to search for deck chairs when they are full of people's items.....it is one thing to get up to go PEE but another to leave to go eat lunch, take a nap...etc....

Gotta tell this story. We were on the Valor April 10. I don't recall the day but I think it was Tuesday. My wife and I were walking around about 9:30 or 10am. We don't like to sit in the sun so weren't trying to find a chair, just seeing what was going on.

We were standing on the second or third level above the main pool. Right in front of us 2 ladies were sitting and there were about 10 additional chairs in line that had been saved with towels, sandals, books etc., except for one which had nothing on it.

We then saw 2 people come on deck and look around for chairs. They found one and one person sat down while the other started looking for another chair. He eventually came up to this line of chairs being saved, went to the one with nothing on it, picked it up and carried it away. The 2 ladies sitting there protested but he just kept walking with the chair like he didn't hear or understand but I think he was just ignoring them.

We thought it sort of funny as there are signs that clearly statint that saving chairs is not acceptable and it is in the Capers every day. Don't think I would have the brass ----- to do what that guy did.

By the way, I have read on this board that a good place to get chair is on the tops optional deck. Not close to the pool and not for kids, but not a bad place if you just want sun. And from what I have read it not many are topless.

The funniest story I've read here about chair saving was the guy who watched a chair for awhile, then moved the stuff off and sat down. A loooooong while later the people came back to find that their chair had turned into a beligerant old man who was ready to stomp their ass. They left him in the chair.

People save chairs because people save chairs. It's too bad, cuz if nobody did it, there wouldn't be a need. It's funny how many people speak out against the practice on these boards, yet sooo many people do it. I think we have a few closet chair savers out there. Come out chair savers. Don't deny your chair-saverality. Your family will be angry at first but they will learn to accept you for what you are. Personally, we will get up at 6 a.m., get a prime spot, and sleep there until the sun comes up. We will take turns getting breakfast and eat it in our lounge chairs. Pathetic, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Maybe this time, I'll auction off our chairs to the highest bidder when we're ready to leave. Cash only, I don't take sail and sign cards.

That's gotta be the funniest thing I've read all week! :D

I like your thinking, Kujobie. What would people pay? I'm thinking $20 per separate chair, 4 in a row for $100. I could make more money on the Lido deck than in the casino. Win/win situation you've got there! ;)

That's what I was thinking, $20 per chair. $50 for two in a prime spot. I'm gonna go make a sign now. To get that price, you'd have to sell them off early, by 10 or 11 a.m. Later in the day, you'd hafta discount them, 2 for 1 or something.

This is an never ending topic.. I always recommend going to the Topless deck way above, there are always tons of chairs there and no one there to bug you.

Thats where I always go for peace and relaxation Period.

I think that hogging chairs for hours is a Joke, I like to see those people paying the 22.00 per towel once those towels are removed or lost.

P.S. The Towel Bandit

Really dumb question but what if you have a chair and you end up going in the water for more than 20 minutes? Does that constitute your towels being taken to lost in found because you haven't occupied your chair for over 20 minutes?

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. If you are gone more than 20-30 minutes, your chair is fair game.
