Meet & mingle setup question

I'm organizing the meet & mingle for my sailing, and I emailed the info required to NCL groups. They emailed me back to ask me what date & time I wanted? I was under the impression that NCL selected the time for the meet & mingles - am I misreading the instructions? And if I need to select the date and time myself, when is it normally scheduled for?

Morning of the first sea day is a good time -- 10 a.m.

Which ship are you sailing on? I know on the Dawn, Jewel and the Gem, the ship personnel set the time and date and let me know when it would be. I did just ask on the Jewel for the Meet and Greet NOT be the same time as the Texas Hold-em Tournament so they changed the time from 11:00 am to 10:00 am so the tournament will be immediately after the M&G.

I am a little surprised, normally it is set up for 10am or 11am the first day at sea. I would just use the email as them offering you some flexibility, but they will make the decision. I kinda like they are leaving it open. Yes, the first day at sea mid morning or early afternoon is the best time.

the way that i have received emails from the Group Coordinator after I request to set up a Meet & Greet is that she forwards to me what she has sent to NCL requesting a date/time and place for the Meet & Greet that I have requested.

then she sends to me the info that NCL has sent her.

so maybe that is the same that you got

if you could post your email that would help~

Meet & Greets that i have set up or attended have always been first sea-day at 11:00am

  • 3 months later...

We did the Star Northwest Pacific Coastal cruise in September. I scheduled the Meet N Greet for Sail Away (immediately following the Muster Drill), uptop in the Biergarten. I had 65 on the roster, but only about 55 actually showed up. It was fantastic! We also did a gift exchange at the Meet N Greet. The Captain didn't attend, as he was taking care of sail away, but we did have about 7 ship's officers attend. We had streamers that we tossed at each other during sail away. Several folks said it was the best Meet N Greet they had attended. The Events Coordinator had us put our name and cabin # on a list and said we might get a surprise invitation. And we did, a few of us were invited to dine with the Captain, and a lot more were invited to a Bridge Tour.

Out of 7 cruises cruises, this was the most active CC group. We also had a slot pull in the casino attended by about 25 folks. We did a Cabin Crawl with about 30 folks. We had so much fun. Without the CC functions, the cruise would have been a bust. We had rain, high waves, high winds, port cancelled, etc. But CC saved the day.

Have fun planning your events!

I've set up four M&G and each time the ship's event coordinator provided the time and place. They've done this to ensure that the maximum number of the ship's senior staff can attend. We've been lucky enough to have the captain at each one. In every instance, the captain has emphasized that NCL values the participation of CC members. As has been previously mentioned, it was always on the first at-sea day, in the morning.

last month on the SUN i was in charge of both M&Gs for our B2B and NCL laid out a nice table of drinks and pastries and then some of the officers and CD attended--unfortunately not the captain--we are ALWAYS treated VERY WELL by NCL onboard and this is SO APPRECIATED!

we had a pretty good turn-out and had a small gift exchange and door-prizes

i had several CCers come up to me afterwards to tell me that they ENJOYED--that is NICE to hear!!

I set up the M&G on the Star 1-1-12 sailing, initially requesting the M&G by email. They replied asking for a specific date and time, which I gave. This was then changed based on the captain's availability.

There were 7 or 8 senior officers at the M&G, including the head chef, hotel director and cruise director Jamie. The group coordinator then arranged for two bridge tours, as our group was too big to fit into one :D The senior staff said they valued and welcomed opinions (both positive and constructive) and handed out cards with their direct extensions to those at the M&G.

The land-based group coordinator as well as the person on the ship were both very helpful and made organizing the M&G very easy.

do NCL require a minimum number to set up a M&G? :)

I'm interested in the answer to this as well. Right now we've got 9 or 10 CC members on our roll call representing about 20 or 25 total people. I'm worried about setting up a meet and greet with the ship and only having a few people show up. Of course, I've got 7 in my party spread over 4 cabins, so that's the bare minimum that would attend. My best guess is we'd end up with somewhere between 12 and 20 total. The cruise is in late February, so there's still time for more to join but I need to start communicating with NCL if we're going to schedule something.

So what do people think? Too few to worry about or worthwhile trying to get it set up?

You've got time, I contacted them just over 2 weeks before we sailed and had a firm time and place over a week before embarkation. This was important because we had lots of people leaving many days before departure.

I'd wait and see, we had lots of people join the roll call in the last few weeks.

How did you organize the slot pull? I read a thread somewhere that had the "rules" of the slot pull but can't for the life of me find it now. Also, did you have to contact the casino staff ahead of time? Did you do it just after the M&G? Sorry for all the questions but I am organizing our upcoming M&G and some have asked about a slot pull. We only had a few folks at first but others have hopped onboard this past month

Thanks. Sail date is February 16th so I'm planning to see where we stand the last week in January and then reach out. We're on the Jade out of Barcelona and they just dropped the prices, so I'm hoping we'll get a few more on the roll call in the coming weeks.

Not sure if this is the thread you're looking for, but it has some information about slot pulls in posts # 5, 8, 10. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1361788

Hi, JMHAM1,

We are doing a B2B Jan 14th & 21st. What i did was post the info re: Slot pull on both Roll Call's to find out if anyone was interested, or not.

Some, on other board's have suggested contacting the Casino Manager, while other's have said not to, concerned the machines might be altered?

Some have met after M&G, to set up a time, other's at their Sailaway Party.

I will be contacting the Manager to inform them of our plan's, as soon as we are on ship.

Some other's have suggested getting everyone's Cabin # , should there be any changes. You, or all,or the Manager can decide which machine you want.

Below i have copied and pasted the info that was posted on our board's to give you an idea, of what we are doing. You can decide however much money you want, or what ever work's for you folk's ;)

All the best, and enjoy your cruise.

Hope this help's :D

Hi, all,

How it work's.

Everyone pay's $15.00,bets $3.00 per pull = 5 pull's per person.

Anyone can play. No one can enter after first pull.

All the entrant's will put their $15.00 in the selected machine, before the first pull! Should there be winning's it will be paid out in even dollars, no change.

I will have a spread sheet, to keep track of who win's what. The person who win's the most will end up with the extra change.

Ie: Say 10 people enter, 10x $15.00= $150.00, we win $275.00

$275.00 divided x 10 = $27,50 each

John Doe won the most, so John would get his $27.00 plus the balance

$5.00, whereas the other 9 would get their $27.00,make sense.

I will contact the Casino Manager to set this up, if we get any interest.

I didn't organize the Slot Pull, so just going by my participating. We did it on an "at Sea Day". Yes the gal in charge did contact the Manager of the Casino and let them know we would be using one of the machines, and he even made sure to give her the correct amount of change at the end to make it easier to divvy up the winnings. They chose one in the back kind of out of the way of most folks. We each put in $15 (I think) and got 3 pulls of the handle. Whatever was left in the pot would be divided between the participants. We didn't win big, I think we each got $12 back at the end, but it sure was fun playing and rooting for the jackpots. Lots of whoops and hollers, and AHs and gathered quite a crowd of non-CCers too. Everyone wanted to know what we were doing. It was a lot of fun. Have fun planning it!
