Hello, joined this forum a few months ago & taking my 1st cruise in June on the Freedom. I see how much ppl love cruising & how ppl become addicted after their 1st cruise. My question is, Do you know anybody that didn't like cruising & why? I'm sure there are ppl out there, I just haven't met them or read about them. Thanks!

Yeah, my bf, but he also doesn't like rollercoasters or cherry pie and I do, but he loves to hunt and fish and I hate that so it all evens out.

I think it's safe to say that most people posting here LOVE crusing... ;)

My hubby likes cruising, but isn't crazy about sea days for some reason - that's why he isn't coming on the Hawaii cruise with 5 sea days right off the bat! We are thinking of taking a cruise out of Puerto Rico that hits a different island every day - he will probably love that one...

I also have friends who refuse to consider a cruise because they get sea sick, and I try to assure them that most people aren't affected on the big ships and that Bonine or other sea sick medications work for those who do - but there is no convincing them.

And yes, I am sure there are people out there who tried it and flat out don't enjoy cruising - I have never met anyone who cruised and hated it, but different strokes for different folks! Enjoy your cruise - I am sure you will love it! :D

I know some people who don't like cruising because they get seasick. Others say they like to be in a place for more than one day. Some feel like they're trapped or aren't enough activities.... But honestly, I think cruising is the best bargain. It's so fun being on a giant ship with people who serve you hand and foot. What's not to love??

My wife likes cruising much more than I do. I like it but don't love it. I much prefer a land based vacation. On a cruise port stop where I spend maybe 7-8 hours, I don't really feel like I have been there. I would rather spend a week on an island than a few hours.

Something about cruising is different, the room is smaller, the food doesn't taste like food I would eat at a restaurant on land. Everything has a different feel. I much prefer a land trip. She likes cruising. To each their own. We usually pair a land based trip with a cruise. Sometimes a week on land followed by a seven night cruise. We are both happy then.

We have some friends who only like River Cruises but do NOT like Ocean Cruises.

We have other friends who only want to do Land Tours or go to a Resort Destination.

We LOVE Ocean Cruises! :)

People enjoy different things. To each his own!

My wife's brother and his g/f joined a group of us on a cruise last year and they complained the whole time. My brother-in-law can't find his way out of a wet paper bag and complained when they couldn't learn their way around the ship, so they would never be able to find us when we would all meet up for something. Not only that, but they would drink so much during the day that they would fall asleep in their cabin early in the evening and miss dinner and all the evenings activities. Once they would wake up the only thing open for food was pizza and the deli, and of course they would complain about that. All legitimate complaints:rolleyes:

I was totally against the idea of cruising and kept avoiding them until I ran out of excuses with my wife. My biggest dislike about cruising is the short time at ports. But it is what is, and I accept that. My wife and I just spent a week in Florida recently which was out first non-cruise vacation in a few years. If I had a dollar for each time one of us commented about having to pick up behind ourselves or cook/clean dishes, I'd be able to pay for another cruise, lol. That's what I love about cruising, everything is taken care of, everything.

My friends went on a cruise last fall. They hated it. They are in their late fifties/early 60's. They took a short cruise just to see if they would like it. They only liked the day off the boat. They were bored. They are both retired and spend every day working in the yard, around the house, volunteering, washing their cars, etc... They hardly ever relax and just didn't enjoy it. They didn't like the food. My friend is a "southern cook" and really didn't enjoy their meals. They said all they really liked was the breakfasts in the MDR. My husband and I enjoy the sea days and the ability to unwind, nap, read and people watch. I guess to each his own!

My ex-husband did not particularly care for cruising.... he considered it a mode of transportation from one port to the other. The entire cruise, all he wanted to do was chain-smoke, drink and eat. He didn't want to accompany me to the shows, didn't care for the casino and complained that it was too hot to sit on the Lido and enjoy the music and the pool.... a real stick-in-the-mud.

What a PITA he was.

My ex hated cruises because he said they were too boring. He didn't like to do "group activities", he didn't want to go to shows, and he didn't want to read by a pool. So for him, "nothing to do" except in port.

Thankfully my husband is an adult and can find ways to amuse himself even if he doesn't like the planned activities and enjoys the main goal of the cruise - relaxing and spending time together.

My husband likes cruising...except for the people. He's rather introverted and not fond of crowds. He likes everything else about cruises though! Fortunately, he loves me, I love cruising (and him) so he cruises with me. On our first cruise, to Alaska, he got norovirus BAD, as did lots of other folks on the ship. But, he sailed again. He has said that if he ever gets it again, that's his last cruise.

Thanks for the input. It seems that ppl that don't like crusing don't like it because they can't just relax without getting bored or they get sea sick. Now that I think about it, my boss did say he didn't enjoy sea days but enjoyed the ports. I feel that I'll really like it even though my expectations are pretty high because that's where you guys have set the bar.:)

My daughter's boyfriend didn't really like the cruise that they went on with my husband and I and a bunch of other friends. What he didn't like was being away from his computer and games. That was 3+ years ago and he and my daughter have not been on a vacation together since.

Recently, DD has been pestering her BF to plan another vacation. ANY kind of vacation. He would get grumpy whenever she mentioned it. So - DD and I are going on a girls cruise in January, 2016! 13 days to Mexico on the Miracle. She loves cruising and can't wait. We booked a few days ago and it's all we can think about! Ole'!~

Our best friends were cruisers for years and then gave us a free cruise to join them to celebrate some big events . We were hooked on cruising from that very first trip even though that one went thru a storm /depression and was quite a trip. I loved somebody taking care of everything including the ship. We have been on many more and each one is different. We are all water/beach people but i loved our european cruise the most so far. We are also older now but we are never bored. I love the sea days and a chance to relax and enjoy the ship. I think we save our money all year to go cruising and get the most for our money. For people who live on a budget, ordering whatever you want and going on fun excursions is just living the dream. The staff is always so nice and work so hard too. Just makes the whole trip enjoyable. Whats not to love! I know you will love it!

My husband and I are going on our 3rd cruise together. He hasn't experienced a good one yet. The first one he went on he got a virus or something and was quarantined to the room for most of the cruise. The last cruise we went on we took our 1 year old and we couldn't do squat. She was to young to go in the pool or camp carnival, and she still napped (it was a family cruise and my Mawmaw paid for everyone to go) so we were stuck in the room most of the time.

We booked a cove balcony this time and we are going ALONE and I'm packing tons of Lysol spray and wipes. We WILL NOT GET SICK knock on wood. I've been doing research like crazy on the ship and ports. We're determined to have a good time this time!

I am NOT a cruiser. In fact, that's what lead me to join CC! I am not a huge fan of cruising, but my in-laws are, so I joined so I could get the most out of every cruise.

DH and I really didn't enjoy the first couple of cruises we went on, because they didn't match our vacation style. We'd rather go to Europe, a national park, or Disney World and wake up early, pack in as much as we can see, and collapse exhausted at the end of the night after experiencing everything we can. So on our first cruises, we felt like we never had enough time in port to experience the things we wanted. And we weren't much for "down time" so sea days seemed to stretch on forever, even if we slept in and tried to do a lot of activities. We aren't big complainers and tried to make the best of things, but we just never came back feeling like it was something we wanted to do again.

The big thing that made cruising more enjoyable for us was having kids. Now we don't mind a bit of down time so much. And the kids clubs have a lot of fun offerings. But I still have my port days packed with activities, and struggle to keep myself occupied on sea days. I do enjoy things like dance classes, trivia, cooking classes, etc. But just laying around isn't really my thing.

I think you are off to a good start on CC. It's helped me a ton in getting ready for our upcoming extended family cruise. And while I know it probably won't be the best vacation I've ever had, I'm hopeful that we can still have a blast! And then next time it will be MY turn to pick the family vacation destination :p

I talk about cruising all the time with my friends. So my friend talked her parents into going on a cruise for their family vacation one year and they hated it more than anything. i felt horrible because they went off of my word of it being amazing too. They were very bored, they didn't like the food, they left like everything was to planned if you wanted to have fun you had to go to certain things at certain times not at there own pace and they didn't like the short port times.

I love love love cruising. My kids love it too. They choose a cruise over Disney World. My husband doesn't really like to, but does it for us. We are taking my mother in law in 3 weeks and i am betting she won't like it either, but hoping she will.

We have done two cruises both in suites on Princess and Celebrity both have been ok .Celebrity was better a little more refined and elegant. Are we rushing back ? No not a this stage neither product was as enjoyable as the land based destination travel we have done over the last 25 years.

I think the cruise industry has lost the plot at the moment the massive mega ships who do cruises to nowhere are something I just don't get understand ,perhaps because I see ships as floating transport rather than a destination .

Our next door neighbors say they hate cruising because, "There's too many photographers in your face." But yet, they go on a cruise about every 5 years. Each time they return, they say Never again...

One of my best friends also claims to hate cruising. Every time we get a group to go, she has a reason that it will be awful and therefor won't go (we'll get Noro, too many drunks, hidden fees, airfare too high, good cabin sold out, too many old people, too many kids...) After 10 years of listening to her excuses and never getting her onto a cruise I fond out the real reason. She doesn't know how to swim and is scared of the water.

I know another couple who met from working on a cruise ship. They "hate" cruising simply because they did it for so many years behind the scenes that they would rather vacation in other ways now.

So to answer your question, no, I don't know anyone who doesn't like to cruise, but I do know of several who choose other sorts of vacations.

My mom took her first 5 day cruise back in October and while she said she had fun she does not want to cruise again. She isn't one to just sit and relax and did not like organized activities, said she felt locked in. She much more enjoys the freedom of land vacations.

I am going on my first one next week, I'm going without kids so I think I'll love it.

I have so many family and friends that say 'Oh cruising isn't for me as I will feel trapped/get seasick/its too touristy/its expensive' when they do not have a clue.

My in-laws took an educational cruise way back in the 90s with my husband (he was a teen) and they said they really enjoyed it. But they prefer spending £2000 ($3000) for a week/10 days in a posh country hotel in England instead of anything else which says snooze fest to me...each to their own.
