wright615 Posted March 3, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2011 My boyfriend and I are cruising on Enchantment in April. His birthday is next week and my mom was going to gift him some OBC by calling RC and having it added to his account. My question is can he use OBC in the casino for poker? Thanks! Also, I have seen people talking about "poker machines/video poker." Do they have actual tables where you can play against other people or is it only electronic. Thanks! When I played on FOS, we did play against other players but it was electronic. There is a screen at each seat that allows you to see your cards. So it's basically regular poker but without a dealer and real cards. A lot of people complain about it, but I didn't mind it.
cruiseguy1016 Posted March 3, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2011 There are lots of tables to play WITH other people. Black Jack, Caribbean Stud, Let it Ride; games like that where you play WITH other people AGAINST the house.
phoenix1181 Posted March 3, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 3, 2011 Yes, OBC can be used in the Casino however: there is a 3% fee. I don't play poker but I believe I've seen them playing with a real dealer on Navigator & Explorer.
dixieva Posted March 3, 2011 #5 Share Posted March 3, 2011 I think you might be able to go to the Purser's desk and withdraw OBC cash without a fee. Then take the cash to the casino to play. The fee is charged if you are asking for cash which will be charged to your account. I think this is correct but maybe someone who has done it can answer for sure. lambs2 Posted March 3, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 3, 2011 I think you might be able to go to the Purser's desk and withdraw OBC cash without a fee. Then take the cash to the casino to play. The fee is charged if you are asking for cash which will be charged to your account. I think this is correct but maybe someone who has done it can answer for sure. I would love to know the correct answer to the above also. If that were possible I think we might buy some more OBC before the cruise and not have to carry around so much extra cash because that makes me nervous while traveling. cruisegirl1 Posted March 3, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 3, 2011 We have been hit or miss when trying to get OBC in cash from the Purser's desk. We usually use the casino and pay the 3%. As most of the OBS is some sort of freebee, I don’t mind paying $6 to get $200 – or actually $194 for free. A few times we were instructed ( by the casino) to bring a room charge print-out and they gave use the $$ with no fee. This is also hit or miss. Good luck M
dixieva Posted March 3, 2011 #8 Share Posted March 3, 2011 I usually just bring enough cash for the casino. You can bring traveler's checks which are safe to carry around or just bring cash and put it in your room safe. To me OBC is your money or money given to you as a perk and should not be charged a fee to take it out. I fully understand charging a fee to charge cash to your on board account. cruisenfever Posted March 3, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 3, 2011 OBC that is gifted is refundable and you should be able to withdraw it at Guest Relations. We've been able to do it..........but remember, consistency is not a word that is practiced on every ship.

Has anyone reading this been successful in getting the purser's desk or guest relations to give them cash for the casino from their OBC without a 3% fee? I am particularly interested in anyone's experience on the Vision of the Seas.

lambs2 Posted June 27, 2011 #12 Share Posted June 27, 2011 I now have my own insight from personal experience on this subject! There are definitely two different tyoes of onboard credit, The type the cruiseline gives and sometimes your travel agent (because they are really one and the same type in many instances) CANNOT be refunded and you either "use it or lose it" OR you can withdraw it in cash for the 3% fee from the casino. The other type - like the OBC we earned from our credit card IS refundable. DH went down almost every single day of our week cruise on the Vision to find our the correct answer to this. For most of the cruise he could not get a definitive answer from the folks at the front desk, but he kept asking, and FINALLY on the last sea day he just went down to the front desk and they refunded him that OBC in CASH!!! We had prepaid all our tips because we had My Time Dining so it was hard for us to spend the considerable amount of OBC we had for this cruise, but were so glad to get it refunded because we definitely needed it for our after cruise land tour plans. Hokiefan01 Posted June 28, 2011 #13 Share Posted June 28, 2011 Poker on the enchantment is played on a blackjack table in the room only against 7 people. It is dealer dealt and normally 2/5 with 10% rake capped at 15. Not really a desirable game to play with that kind of rake. But on the enchantment it is dealer dealt and only 7 handed.
