Get the most out of your NCL BoA Card while you can

Ok.. don't flame me for starting a new thread. I have a differnt angle I wanted to go with and thought it would be better on a new thread rather than getting lost at the end of the main one going around right now.

Here is my idea. For those that are close to getting the points they need to have an even $500.00 cert, maybe we could post ideas on here to help them get the points they need between now and Dec and at a LOW cost to them.

ie. If you live near casino's, check with them and see if their "cash on your credit card" program is turned into the credit card company as a cash advance or simply a charge. For example...when you are on a cruise ship and you get cash from their casino window and it is charged to your OBA, all the credit card company knows is that you had a charge onboad for X amount of dollars. IF it is reported as a cash advance, forget it and move on because you will probably start being charged interest the day you get the cash advance.

There are two things to keep in mind. Most places (casinos) charge you a fee for doing this.. some. very few.. but still some don't. Find out what the fee would be to get the cash you would need to get your points up to $500.00. If you are close, it might not cost you very much. We have only done this in casino's where there was no charge and it showed up as a regular purchase (and the money was for us to use in the casino).

The other thing to keep in mind is that you can only accumulate 250 points per NCL BoA account during each billing cycle.

If you do this.. simply deposit the cash you get into your bank account so you can pay off the credit card when you get the bill.

Sorry if this sounds stupid. but I thought it might be a good thread if people could come up with other ideas. I am sure the one I mentioned above would actually cost too much IF you paid a fee to do it, but just trying to get the ball rolling for people to get as many points as they can between now and Dec without spending too much to get them.

Any ideas??

Terry,

I think this a great idea. We are only 10 to 15 pts away from our $500.00, but don't know where to go from there as we have used all our other certs for this cruise coming up in 3wks and am wondering if we should still use our card for all the charges or not. Usally do somewhere between $1500.00 to $2500.00 in charges on the ship. Got any ideas? (DH could buy me more bling :D ) We use our card for all bills and anything else chargeable, but don't think it's possible to get another $500.00 by years end. HELP ideas:confused:

On one of the other boards, I read about the possibility of getting gift certificates to the places you'll be shopping in the next few months anyway. I'm going to figure out how much I need to get to the next level, and then at least for one of the cards, I'll buy gift certificates for my local grocery store and then just put them away until January.

It's also going to be an incentive to get my Christmas shopping done earlier!

Do remember that when you use your NCL for OBA, you get more points to the dollar than just regular shopping. We do use our NCL BoA for all charges we can except for those that charge us a fee to use it. For example.. our cell phone bill. I think they charge a fee of like $5.00 to charge your billing to a credit card. That negates any points we would accumulate by charging our cell bill to the NCL BoA. However, our electric company does not charge us a fee to put the electric bill on a credit card, so that is a win for us. You also have to make sure you do not put more on the card than you can pay off each month or the interest you pay might outweigh any points you accumulate as well.

Go to http://www.usmint.gov/index.cfm?flash=no, then Circulating $1 Coin Direct Ship Program. You can buy $250.00 of the $1.00 coins for $250.00 with free shipping. Then just take them to your bank and deposit them. There is a limit to how many you can order (under one name)

enjoy

d man

Okay, this is a good one. A really good one. :D And the limit seems like it is $250 per president and there's a bunch of them.

Has any body tried this? I wanted to purchase a prepaid MC and was required to pay by cash or debit card. Are the 'store specific' gc's the same way or can you pay with cc?

I've bought restaurants gift cards for Christmas using my NCL card in past years. I haven't actually tried the grocery store one yet -- I'll let you know if it works.

I also need things like a new pair of glasses, so I'm going to plan on doing that before the end of the year. Every little bit helps!

Our local super market chain that sells all kinds of gift cards will only accept cash for those cards ... I can't put them on my cc.

I know exactly the ones you're talking about -- our local store has racks and racks of gift cards you can buy for restaurants and other stores, but I'm not talking about those ones. I'm talking about buying "gift cards" to redeem at my local grocery, which happens to be a Kroger brand store. I know you can charge those, because my former employer used to give them out at Thanksgiving, and every year they were purchased on one of our corporate purchasing cards. I just checked their website, and they'll definitely accept a credit card for payment.

I figure if I'm getting close to that next certificate level, I'll just buy the gift cards and then after the first of the year I'll redeem them for groceries and gas.

The President gives everyone a stimulus check, (ok, not everyone. I didn't get one) but this rush to get points seems to be stimulating the economy a lot better :p

I bought Kroger gift cards when they had the deal with the stimulus checks (bought $300 got $30 bonus) and put it on my Mastercard - no problem.

You can charge to max. Then go online and make a payment... charge some more. I did that to get air miles this year. Bought stuff I would definately use.
