Okay, so my cruise is real to Cozumel is real close and my finances are kinda tight. I was wondering, what is a reasonable amount of money to bring onboard with me for spending?

I don't really drink a lot. I might be purchasing a few drinks, but definitely not a lot. Also, when we get to Cozumel, how much is the ride to the beaches, etc.?

The "Drinks" question is a HUGE factor. We just went on one in July and it was our first one. We spent more than I thought but not over our budget.

Drinks was our main expense. Everyday there is always "some kind of a special until 8:30pm" atleast this was my experience. Buckets of Beer was more reasonable etc.

Photos - Since it was our first one I bought 2 8x10's and one small photo. spent around 60 bucks or so on photos.

I'm not huge on souvenirs so no expense there. (Last day I bought a purse because I had extra money to blow and wanted it)

Off the ship we tried to do a "cheap day" and just go to the beach in the bahamas. NOW this is what you gotta watch out for, getting off the boat. We spent a FORTUNE (shoulda just booked an excursion), for what we got.

I also bought a wine package for $100 (3 bottles of wine).

So again, our main expense was alcohol, which we knew would be going in.

And you will be catching a taxi from the Puerta Maya pier, that's where all Carnival ships dock. A little walk from the shops at the pier (turn left when you come off the pier) you will find the taxi stand. They will ask where you are going and how many, and call up a cab for you. Yes, ask first what the fare is!

If you don't drink much and you don't gamble you should be able to hold your expenses down pretty well. My husband and I both drink and gamble, don't do the spa, don't buy photos or souvenirs, and about $400 on a four day cruise should be plenty for cash purchases. We always put down a credit card and have another $400 or so on it. Just check your balance on your folio each day so you can keep track of it. Have fun!

for a beach day, go to Paradise beach. Very nice beach, chairs, and swimming pool. It will be around 14 dollars each way for a van/taxi. If there are only the two of you, see if you can get someone to join and split the cost. It is free as long as you buy a drink or some food.

Remember you are allowed one bottle of wine per passenger. So I always take a bottle. Helps save on expenses of drinks. Just remember If you are flying in, you have to put it in your luggage. When boarding the ship, it has to be in your carryon. So don't forget to switch it out. If they find it in your luggage, they will confiscate it.

I usually put down $200 and have a small onboard credit that covers gratuities, almost always have money returned to me at the end of the cruise. I'm mainly a wine drinker and bring two bottles onboard. DH just drinks sodas.

Well see, all I am going to have is about 200 dollars. That's it, so I really have to be careful what I do.

Its really gonna depend on the person, but I can give you our approx guidelines. I plan for 100$ for each port day, I never spend that much. ( I prepay any ship excursions, any non ship excursions are part of the 100$) Obviously if I do a ship excursion, I don't spend the whole 100$, I save the extra for another day. For onboard expenses, my husband will ususally buy 2-3 bottles of alcohol to take home= about 50$. I splurge on one diet coke a day $2.25, and maybe one drink of the day $8-10.

Last day of the cruise, I look at my cash on hand and decide how much I need to cab to the airport, food in the airport, and any trinkets, then add $50 for extras. The rest goes to my on board account so it's less sticker shock at home.

People can spend a ton or none. I have heard of guys building up 200$ bar tabs the first night.

Don't forget tips. You want your suitcase to show up in your cabin after you drop it at the pier.

You really need to stop and think about what your needs are. Allow for $11.50 pp/day for tips (unless prepaid). What do you plan on doing at port? Either book an excursion through Carnival in advance or research whatever else you plan on doing to figure out the cost. Do you gamble? If so, set aside the amount of money you are willing to lose at the casino. Do you drink? Cocktails run about $9 each, beer about $6 each on the ship. Make sure you have singles to tip the porters at the port helping with luggage and room service if you plan on ordering it.

As you can see, the amount of money you need to bring will depend on your personal spending habits.

You can go as cheap or as expensive as you want. The only real expense you will have are your tips $11.50 per day per person. You can get a taxi in Cozumel to take you to a beach or just do some shopping at the port. You can gamble or not, drink or not, buy photos or not, go to the steak house or not. The choices are yours...how much you spend is up to you. Bring your own pop and wine to cut down on beverage costs. Take your own pictures. Don't go into the Casino. There are ways to keep costs down.

I have per paid the tips for my November cruise and then have booked one excursion a month to have those paid off. I have $500 cash put aside for extra tips, some drinks and a couple souvenirs.

Depends if it is just you or if you have someone else going as well. For my March trip I will have the 2 kids with me and so will need to have just a tad more for CC tips and things they want. At least DH is staying home so that saves me some bar bill money.

I think you can do it! I did a 5 day out of Jacksonville and only spent 168.00 on board. I don't gamble, and didn't prepay gratuities. My tab was drinks, my gratuities, 1 coke, and a stop to the candy store. Bring a bottle of wine and u should be good.

I think $200 is plenty. Im not a drinker either and have spent under $200 on a 7 day with multiple ports, so it hould be plenty of money for ship purchases and cozumel. I'm going on an 8 day on Saturday and will be surprised if I exceed $200 on that cruise as well (granted I also prepaid my gratuities).
