Suite perks on the Dawn

Recommended Posts

We have done the non-Haven suite thing three times. Twice we were in Cagney's and last time next door in Moderno. They use Cagney's kitchen to prepare food. I suspect they moved it next door since Moderno, at least on the Star, was a much brighter venue with large windows. The service is fantastic. After a couple of days waiters know your preferences.

Someone asked about menus. I think they are pretty standard throughout the fleet. Breakfast has a buffet set up with fruit, cereals, breads and sweets and cold meats and cheeses. The hot menu consists of omelets, eggs benedict, waffles, French toast and steak and eggs.

I once requested corned beef hash, not on menu; someone went elsewhere to get it. Once I realized it, I felt a little guilty asking for it.

The lunch menu is fixed. Some have griped about this, but I have found that on a typical seven-day cruise we have only eaten there during sea days. So there are more than enough choices.

Don't forget to order the French press coffee for breakfast.

Another perk if you choose an owner's suite is 3 bottles of liquor plus mixers, soda and water.

I assume the liquor is a one time thing on embarkation. What about water and soda? Are they replenished daily? UBP fine print says anything in the mini-fridge cost extra. However, posts here seem to imply there is no additional charge for OS. Which is true?

Also can anyone confirm room service fee is waived for OS suites?

The OS, DOS get 3 bottles of booze from a limited list usually on the first day/night. Sometimes it takes them to the next day.

Water and soda in those same rooms are supplied as needed depending on the butler - some are better than others.

Anything else in the mini-fridge will be charged.

Do you know if suite guests get priority at MDR? Is there usually a long wait for a table?

Yes, as a VIP suite guest you get priority at any MDR. You simply contact the concierge before or at the time you wish to eat and they will get you right to a table with little to no waiting.

Dawn does not have any suite pool area, but I have been studying the deck plans. Deck 13 forward has a large hot tub, away from the main pool area, and lots of deck chairs. I plan to make that my go-to area, it is right above the deck 12 suite area. It might be a day or so before the crowds find it. Keep it between us. :lips-sealed:

I enjoyed the French press coffee in 2009 at Cagneys - do they charge extra for this now? I noticed on recent suite breakfast menus listing prices for espresso and such...

Most times we did specialty, but one night (4 of us) decided to have dinner in the MDR ... I didn't even think about making reservations and we just arrived at the dining room .... they were so gracious and apologized up and down for not having a table for us ... they had us wait in the bar (close to the MDR) and gave us champagne until a table was ready .... The really treated us well. (We will be back on the Dawn and have a DOS again ... so looking forward to it!!!). Jan

French press is the standard and included for breakfast/lunch at Cagneys/Moderno.

Hello!  Will be cruising on the DAWN December 16th / 2018 from San Juan.  In the past I've always departed from Miami and have both checked my luggage curbside and a few times also rolled it on board myself.

I'm booked in a SD Category suite so would the staff escort to the suite handle the luggage to speed things up?  What is recommended?

Thanks for any feedback!

I have found the escort to the suite to vary greatly from ship to ship and cruise to cruise. Your best bet is to check the big bags and carry on the bag with your medications and important stuff. If your suite is ready you can drop it off and head to Cagney's for lunch. Or the concierge or your butler will help you find a spot to store it. Bon Voyage!

Was on the Dawn in an 2 bedroom suite on deck 11 - was the best 14 days of cruising we have ever had. The Dawn does not have a Haven - but has the two largest suites - the Grand Villas at sea. Having no haven, they do have more family suites after they converted most of deck 12 forward to suites several years ago. We loved eating breakfast in Modernero  - the fruit and pastry bar was great and the French press coffee was to die for. Our butler and room steward were true vacation heroes they kept our room in tip top shape, made sure that everything was re stocked as we used it. Our room steward quickly discovered that my wife loved his towel animals - one night we came back from the show and my wife went nuts because there was no animal - then she turned on the bedroom light and it cast an eerie shadow - the towel animal was a bat and he was hanging on the light - he also put one in the refer ! We usually saw the butler in the morning as we were going out for the day - this was a very port intensive cruise he made sure to see if there was anything we needed. We had one in suite breakfast on one of the two sea days.

I agree that there are some little perks to the suite life that aren't on the regular menu - Coming back from Canada we had to go through customs and immigration at our port stop in Bar Harbor. We were told to meet in one of the bars, once all the suite guests were there, we were escorted to a special agent to get our cards stamped. We were told to return our passports to our rooms and then come back to the bar - once back we were escorted to the head of the tender line and given cuts. This save us so much time and gave us at least an hour or two more in Bar Harbor.

Our next cruise is on the Gem - 21 days through the Panama canal - we know that it is almost twice as expensive as a balcony but with such a long voyage the extra space will be nice - along with the pampering.

Do you know which pier?  When we went NCL suite out of Pan Am pier, all get in one line, bags taken just before security, go through security then you get pulled to a small area to the right in main hall.  Then you'll get cards and escort on.
