Transatlantic with young kids we have inside do we upgrade balcony

Hi we r on a oct 2019 transatlantic sailing Southampton to carribean. Excited but nervous what will weather be like? And we have a 3v grade inside cabin but trying to do reserch in upgradeing to a balcony? Advice needed please many thanks niamh

I would look into an oceanview cabin

how young are the kids? Balconies can be dangerous for young active kids

October is Hurricane season so anything goes for weather & sea conditions

We did the 15 night Independence TA last Oct. A little chilly leaving Southampton, next 14 days were fantastic. Shorts and pollo shirts every day, seas like glass. Last five days in the Caribbean were very hot. We have never cruised in anything except a balcony, so I would say yes go for it, fresh air and sunlight are worth the price. The one thing that surprised me was the amount of people dressing up each night, we had 3 formal nights and the amount of tuxedos and long dress were the most I ever remember. Those Brits love to dress up. All that said needs to be qualified by saying.. weather is totally unpredictable. happy cruising

As we speak my travel agent is priceing checking ocean view window but this has pullman beds dont like that idea. A balcony we got quoted 920 sounds very exspensive to me? Some cruisers will probably come on here and mention that pullman beds are not too bad and are put away and put out perfectly by your steward or you can ask for them to be left out.They will probably resemble bunk beds and have bars for the safety of your girls. As a parent, I wouldn't worry about the room space as it'll feel better and bigger than an inside and beds are comfy if you are on the smaller side. I can understand parents worrying about bunk beds and pullmans though.

We almost always cruise in Ocean view rooms as we need natural light and balconies are a waste when we can enjoy the money elsewhere.

I am guessing they will be like this as you are sailing Royal Freedom Class. We loved the Indy....shes such a lovely ship.

We had deck 3, ocean view on Radiance and Brilliance. It was a quick trip up one flight to the Centrum area/dining area. We were very near the elevators but no noise. Not sure about other classes of ships. I will say your girls will enjoy sitting in the window looking out. That would be on deck 3. Deck 2 is usually just a small window.

We stayed on deck 9 (chosen for us as we booked a guarantee) so I can't personally say but looking at the deck plan deck 3 could pose problems as it is under the main part of the ship (under casinos etc) and the forward and aft cabins are near the theatre and the dining room. The windows and views and access will be better on this level.

Deck 2 should be fine as long as you go around mid ship as forward is below the theatre and aft is below dining. The middle of the ship is under the ice rink /studio B but that will only be used for the odd ice show practice and a few shows here and there.

If I were booking a cabin on those decks I would book mid ship deck 2. I have stayed on the lowest deck of a ship before and had no general noise problems.

Yes so i have 3 options 3v grade inside roomvor deck 3 ocean view as would want the big window or a baloney mid ship deck 7. Decision needs 2 be made as dont want 2 miss out just a huge amount to jump in price. Have you checked out a promenade view cabin. Not sure how many will hold four, but there is a promenade view family cabin option. Either way enjoy Indy, she is a beautiful ship.

We did book an inside for our Transatlantic Cruise in November, but upgraded to a balcony. We enjoyed the balcony when we did an emergency stop at the Azores, and at the arrival at Bayonne where we did a Manhattan Bay circumnavigation - but honestly we did not use the balcony for the rest of the cruise. An ocean view will be a great choice.

Hi hallasm and taglovestocruise loving hearing about your transatlantic exsperances. About the promanade view room when i first booked this cruise that my large travel agent booked a huge amount off cabins the offer was free promenade view cabin upgrade but apparently they dont have big enough ones fpr family off 4. I then discovered from you tube that this is not true that ther is a amazing family room promanade view went back to my travel agent and they did not book this room out! So "upgraded" from 6v to 3v so thinking off paying the extra for ocean view but the pullman beds put me off as sometimes i would to ltr witj the chrildren to read them storys to sleep and i could not see my self enjoying getting up ther lol si thinking balcony but as i said a HUGE 900 pound price jump thinking is it worth it? Day dreaming off sitting out ther when we get kids tp sleep drinking a pina colada lol

Didn't realise you had a promenade view family room? We booked this cabin type for a Navigator cruise (but had to cancel due to a family situation) as they looked less claustrophobic than normal insides. I believe the family room is rather large in comparison to other cabinsincluding some ocean views and you get a bath and possibly...two windows overlooking the promenade.

OVs are obviously a nicer view. However, if the room you have is the one I looked at back last year then I would stick with it as it is huge with a bath and is less money.

No sorry we dont have that room it what my travel agent told we got but they said it dosnt sleep 4 but i found out they can. My travel agent gave us regular inside room and i am looking to upgrade .

I didnt ecplain that right first time sorry. We have a inside normal room but wanting 2 upgrade would LOVE the promanade view family room but apparently they cant get us that one . Uses all super excited for your upcoming cruises?

We are flying out to Asia for our cruise this weekend and both scared of flying but otherwise excited :).

We would love to do a transatlantic but all the ones we want to do are always in school time and we teach.

OP, in my opinion an OV on deck 2 or 3 would be the best possible cabin! We almost always have that, and always enjoy them. Noise has never been an issue, and the location is comfortable.
