scubaslayer Posted October 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 29, 2017 What are the best, non-chain, restaurants in Galveston for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? We will be getting in 2 days before we sail, and would like to hit some local spots. We like everything, but fresh seafood would be great, since we live in the desert. We aren't looking for fancy, fine dining. We are open to anything from a complete dive, to nice but casual dress is fine.

scubaslayer Posted October 30, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted October 30, 2017 Gaido's is very popular for seafood. How family friendly are they? Will they let you get two big platters and share with kids? Is there an expected way to dress?
scubaslayer Posted October 30, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted October 30, 2017 We are fond of The Spot and The Original Mexican Cafe. YMMV They spot looks like a place that has something for everyone. It looks like I am going to have some decisions to make, and probably not until we are there and hungry.
BallFour4 Posted October 31, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 31, 2017 Mosquito Cafe for breakfast, The Spot for lunch and Olympia Grill at Pier 21 for dinner. The Original Mexican Cafe is excellent, Gumbo Diner is really good, Bennos on the Seawall is too. We also frequent Millers Cafe for seafood, skipping Shrimp and Stuff as their food is dripping in grease and over battered. The Saltwater Grill is one of the finest meals here, it’s off the Seawall and not a tourist spot. Spend some time on the Strand, visit La Kings Confectionery for pralines or ice cream. Take you family down to the ferry landing and park in the walk-on lot. It’s a 20 min ride over to Bolivar Peninsula with the chance to see dolphins and ships come in the channel. Stay aboard and ride back. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Tom.Terrific Posted November 1, 2017 #7 Share Posted November 1, 2017 There's lot's of great places to eat in Galveston, seconding all of BallFour4's suggestions and adding Black Pearl, Cajun Greek, & Pho Tai. Miller's Seafood Grill would be at the top of my list for excellent family dining for any meal. Not pretentious or stuffy, just excellent food and service. panoramaofthepast Posted November 15, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 15, 2017 Gumbo diner is a little hole-in-the-wall place on Seawall Blvd - great breakfasts, including beignets almost a good as you get in NOLA!

Rare Petroplex Posted November 21, 2017 #19 Share Posted November 21, 2017 We enjoyed eating lunch at Fisherman's Wharf. I particularly enjoy it when you are able to get a table outside. I know it is a Landry's outlet, but I enjoy it a lot more than most big chain restaurants.

devildawg2323 Posted May 1, 2018 #24 Share Posted May 1, 2018 The Spot, The Spot, and The Spot. Also, Queen's BarBQue just a couple blocks off Seawall was fun place with serious portions.
BallFour4 Posted May 4, 2018 #25 Share Posted May 4, 2018 A trip to Galveston wouldn't be complete without a stop at Bahama Bucks for a snow cone. They are at Ferry Road and Seawall Blvd. Ask for condensed milk on yours. Mine's a toasted coconut flat-top loaded with the sweet milk. Might drive over there before I leave the island today! .
