New to Oceania, so are any classes or activities included without additional cost? Thank you.

Cooking school has a charge per class and many sessions are usually booked full weeks to months ahead. You can reserve and pay online.

Dance classes are free.

  • 4 weeks later...

Are these classes listed in excursions? What about sea days?

Absolutely on sea days - they are the ones that fill first.

Look under "dining" if you don't find it as its own heading under excursions. It definitely has its own reservation/payment section. Not sure how far before your cruise dates they will appear (like excursions)

If you are already booked on a cruise go to MY ACCOUNT on Oceania's website

then manage this booking (if you registered your cruises) then look under OTHER OPTIONS

Then CULINARY CLASSES

If you are not booked on a cruise you can see what they offer @

https://www.oceaniacruises.com/ships/riviera/life-on-board/culinary-center/

not all will be offered on each sailing but it gives you an idea

The culinary classes for our cruise in January 2019 became available to book at the end of March. o around 9 months out.

The classes are a fun social experience...you wont be learning any new techniques and they only have 1 or 2 very simple 3-4 ingredient recipes, all the ingredients come pre prepped by staff. The pasta class was most humorous... you learned how to make a tomato sauce with onion and garlic and then put a chunk of pasta dough (pre made) into a machine, then learn how to boil water.

Not very demanding or the like.... but fun if you dont expect to learn to be a chef.

Art classes are a mixed bag and can be fantastic or awful depending on the teacher. Graham Dension is a star however, a former Disney artist... not only good at teaching but as an artist. NO cost but limited seats

From past experience classes are only on sea days.

I see the value of the cooking classes from a somewhat different perspective:

We pick those classes that focus on regional dishes associated with the various ports on the itinerary, particularly if the items selected are best suited for entertaining.

While I agree that the instruction is "basic," there are many opportunities to pick up short cuts and techniques useful for parties, quick dishes, etc. - great ways to wow the crowd at a "pot luck" dinner.

One of the best little tips I've ever gotten involved poaching an egg in a plastic bag.

We also enjoyed one particular class with a guest chef passing through:
