Ship time

Always stay on Ship time. (Miami time in your case) At each port if the announcement says be back on the ship at 4:00 pm, that is 4:00 pm SHIP TIME. not local time. I use a cheap sports watch that is water proof and set it to ship time and leave it. I go by that time when i'm in port.

If you are going on a private excursion, check if the time the operators list is for island time in the event it is different than ship time. It was drilled into us to stay on ship time, but we were an hour late to an excursion once by mistakenly thinking the excursion operators would be on ship time, as well.

You would still need to be back on board by the designated time according to ship time, however.

We always do private excursions. The excursion companies always gave us specific instructions as to where to meet, what time and the difference between local time and ships time. The shore excursion companies know the times better than most of the guests, it's there job.

It's rare that carnival changes time. Other ships do so do not ask anyone the time when you are in port. If the ship changes time they give you notice

Might be true from the East Coast but West Coast cruises almost always change time.

Funny story— met up with a former crew member in PV. She’s lived in PV all her life and crewed on the West Coast. Even she got confused about the time when we met up with her.
