ETinCA Posted January 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2017 Hi all, We are staying in Amsterdam two nights prior to our HAL cruise in July. We have two teenagers with us. Can you recommend a hotel/location to stay? Something in which we can shuttle/cab from airport to hotel and hotel to cruise ship? Also any tour companies recommended to use while there? Thanks in advance
Rare LHT28 Posted January 29, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2017 You could take the train to the Centraal station then stay someplace in the are You could walk to the port or take the tram from near the Centraal station Depends on your interests have you done a research for Amsterdam? It is easy to do on your own or find a walking tour https://www.iamsterdam.com/en/visiting
ETinCA Posted January 29, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted January 29, 2017 (edited) Honestly we aren't big train takers when we have our suitcases with us. I know it works for others, but just isn't our thing when we have luggage, backpacks, etc. I appreciate the help though. The things to do link helps a lot Edited January 29, 2017 by ETinCA

Expect to pay around E. 50,- depending whhre you stay. You might need a van, since 4 persons with luagge might too much for a cab. Uber and Tinker are a bit cheaper. There is a shuttle to various hotels, but with 4 persons it will be more expensive. Amsterdam is compact, with excellent public transport. Nothing is really far away. Check for a hotel around Centraal Station (that is close to the cxruiseterminal), or around Rembrandtsplein and/or Museumplein. By using the searchfunction you will find many hotels mentioned. Thanks in advance The Movenpick is located right next to the cruise terminal. We stayed at the Movenpick when we cruised into Amsterdam. We have stayed at other hotels on various land visits but the Movenpick was very convenient to our cruise ship. From the hotel you can catch tram #26 to Centraal Station (takes about 3 minutes to get to Centraal) or walk. The city is very walkable but if you prefer, you can catch a tram from Centraal Station to the points of interest (ex: Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Dam Square, etc.). The canal cruises are also quite worthwhile - we did an evening cruise with wine & cheese - the bridges are lighted at night, very cool. :)

Thanks in advance Are you on the July 30 HAL sailing to Fjords of Norway? We are on that cruise. Also flying into Amsterdam 2 days early. I booked us at the Movenpick through Trip Advisor. It was more than 50% cheaper than booking through HAL...I just don't understand that??? Anyway, we are very excited; plan to bike up to Edam and do an Amsterdam walking tour while we attempt to get over our jet lag.
ReturnCruiser Posted February 17, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 17, 2017 Also any tour companies recommended to use while there? Thanks in advance In 2015, we reserved a private guided trip for six for a day tour of Amsterdam with Edwin Groeneweg (www.thedutchtraveladvisor.com). It was a full day of activities, including visits to the Anne Frank House (ask Edwin about timed reservation tickets), Van Gogh Museum, canal tour and walking tour. We enjoyed the private guide service and have arranged for Edwin to conduct a two days of private touring in 2017 (#1: The Hague and #2: a visit to the Amsterdam flower auction and a flower grower's farm in 2017).
