khuselid Posted November 6, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 6, 2017 Hello, We have never sailed with Azamara but have with Oceania many times. What are the significant differences in these lines? How about the beds. We LOVE the beds on Oceania and for a longer cruise the comfortable beds make all the difference! Seems like Azamara is significantly more costly. True? Thanks, Kim
takemewithyou Posted November 6, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 6, 2017 You might try a search on this board for this topic. Lots of threads on this site with comparisons......I even did one some time ago after our one 2015 Oceania cruise.
ellbon Posted November 6, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 6, 2017 The crew..Azamara more friendly We have a DJ at night not an iPad Oceania has a real honest Asian style restaurant The Ph suite on your big ships is great. ShopperfiendTO Posted November 7, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 7, 2017 Our piano players is alive. If what you mean is that there is a real person that plays the piano, then O has that as well.
Lottie A Posted November 7, 2017 #7 Share Posted November 7, 2017 If what you mean is that there is a real person that plays the piano, then O has that as well. Yes they do.... but whether the one I listened to on Marina could be described as "alive" is another matter! Max and Ed on Azamara fill a room with people listening to them but the guy on Marina emptied it in 2 minutes flat!
mare s. Posted November 7, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 7, 2017 We recently returned from our first Oceania cruise on Insignia (sister ship to Azamara's ships) and found the crew to be extremely friendly and the cabin attendants among the best we've ever had. The itinerary (Iceland and Greenland) was interesting and we took advantage of Oceania's pre-cruise land tour which was very well done. That being said, we thought the food was hit or miss (although the freshly grilled lobster tails and shrimp every night in the buffet were delicious), the entertainment poor (other than their string quartet), and the piano man boring (Robin and Lottie are so right) Didn't think the beds were any better than those on Azamara and we missed the friendly and informative Azamara Captains, the White Night party, and the Azamazing evening. Counting down the days until our next time on Quest!
ellbon Posted November 8, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 8, 2017 Yes they do.... but whether the one I listened to on Marina could be described as "alive" is another matter! Max and Ed on Azamara fill a room with people listening to them but the guy on Marina emptied it in 2 minutes flat! Lottie i guess I should of used "alive". he played to an empty room but played later than on AZ. always wanted Max and Ed play to 12 am .
TravelBugM Posted November 8, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 8, 2017 To your point regarding the beds, we find the beds and bed linen extremely comfortable and sleep very well when sailing Azamara. The pillows are also wonderful.
hiccups Posted November 8, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 8, 2017 We've done one cruise on each line (Riviera on O, Journey on AZ). I think which you like boils down to mostly personal preference. For us, hands down we preferred Oceania. We didn't experience the Azamara service people rave about, and we have no interest in interaction with the officers. We also don't care about the entertainment, so I couldn't tell you which one was better. Oceania had a great selection of free movies, which Azamara didn't, so that worked for us. Food was much better on Oceania, as was our cabin, but because the ships are different, that's not really a fair comparison. We'll sail on whichever one goes where we want at a price we like (which next year, is Azamara).
Lottie A Posted November 8, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 8, 2017 I don't think Quest and Journey can compare to Marina and Riviera in terms of cabin size and luxury. Of course the O class ships are more modern and very elegant and of course those bathrooms on Azamara are not in the same league as O bathrooms. It depends what you want from your cruise. I don't cruise for the size of the shower and I have zero interest in what films are shown as I am on a cruise and usually socialising and enjoying the entertainment onboard, not watching films in my cabin. Food is of course subjective, but it would be very hard indeed to beat Chef Monica's magnificent food we so much enjoyed on Journey recently. We love the friendliness of the officers and crew on Azamara. It truly is like being among family and friends. So my answer is that Azamara and Oceania are both great cruise lines and O certainly has better deals at the moment ....but given an even playing field, then my first choice would always be Azamara. That's not to say I'm never going on Oceania again though. 😄
