LEAKED - 2020 Carnival LNG Class Rendering

It's really not like that. The buffet has amazing ocean views, for one. And as I said, the entire upper decks - pool areas, sports zone, the huge solarium, etc. All ocean views. Plus the boardwalk has a neat aft view. If you prefer to have a drink or lunch with a view, there are many options including the most popular spots... Grabbing a drink then sitting down in the AquaTheater is quite an experience also, as you are surrounded by ocean while watching a high dive show. Very cool. And keep in mind it goes both ways - whereas you are enclosed on a traditional ship unless you are on lido, Central Park and Boardwalk are open/fresh air venues.

Anyways, I think the new Carnival ships look nice and all, but nothing groundbreaking. And my personal opinion is that it would be nice to see some really cool new stuff as far as overall ship design goes. Only Royal seems to have done that. I'll give Vista a shot maybe next year, we'll see.

I'm ok with Carnival bowing out of the "world's largest ship" game, but I agree that just upsizing the basic layout that goes all the way back to the Fantasy-class is growing wearisome.

But have you all seen the Celebrity EDGE??? WOWZA!!!! Check out that Magic Carpet!!!

The Edge looks great but it doesn't appear to be kid friendly. It also looks like it will be a very expensive cruise. It brings to mind of a modern Cunard.

Greg,

I would wonder if you're "jumping the gun" when you base your like/dislike on a video:o

BUT... it would give you a great comparison though, noting how similar your past cruises were, and ship choices as well -listed on your signature.

We've sailed the Oasis 2x's in a year because of the surprise return of the great "WOW" feeling.

The Oasis Class ships were hardly boring...as one could simply sail for the ship experience! This is a great choice for people who have that happy dilemma of going to the same ports way too frequently.

Come on, Greg... take a chance and then review, based on a real personal experience--your own:*.

If, not you will be left with that always returning sense of SHIP-ENVY, when at port, the ship next 2 you... is the Oasis!

Mike

Someone asked the question why don't other cruise lines do what RCCL did with Oasis. My opinion is there isn't enough demand for cruising in a floating shopping mall. What I posted isn't a review of Oasis. If that is what you're looking for I'm sure there are plenty of them on the RCCL board.

I love the neighborhood concepts. It really makes it pleasant to go wandering/strolling around. Stop in Central Park in the evening, glass of wine and listen to the live music. Ride the Rising Tide bar down to the promenade while sipping a specialty cocktail... Head down to entertainment place after a show to gamble and swing by the jazz club. Stroll the promenade, grab a burger on the boardwalk, etc. It's awesome. There is no escaping that you are still on a ship. You don't see the ocean as much but I found that this didn't bother me one bit especially since we get oceanview balcony rooms. The entire upper decks, pools, sports zones, bars, and multiple dining venues and boardwalk all have amazing ocean views. It's not hard to find a nice spot with ocean views.

That said, I also enjoyed our last Carnival cruise and the windows/ocean view from just about everywhere. Though the atrium was rather enclosed. I didn't like that the casino was right smack in the middle of the promenade deck but overall it was a nice cruise also. Oasis class is a home run though, it really is.

Different strokes for different folks. when I'm cruising, I want the feel of a ship all the time. Central park and a mall on a ship is not cruising to me. I'm glad Carnival is not contemplating going this route.

Wish there was a like button, I agree with everything you are saying, if I want a shopping mall, I will go to a mall.

But an IMAX is "cruising" to you? I guess that's ok, but surely you see the ridiculousness of that, right? If I wanted a movie theater, I'd go to a movie theater... And Carnival has a shopping area along with a promenade on their ships - you do realize Royal just does it better....

I respectfully disagree with this statement. These ships(oasis class) sell and sell well. That is evident in the pricing structure of the cruise fare on all 3 ships. If these ships weren't selling out RCCL certainly wouldn't have been stupid enough to build and order 5 of them...

IMAX is a small feature...one I won't use on the vista. It's not like they redesigned the entire ship around it. The shopping areas on the ships I've been on have been small. Just a couple of stores. In my opinion all but the gift shop are a waste of space. The odds of me going in a Michael Kors on a cruise ship? Donut. I like the carnival promenade. Everything has an ocean view. Can I get that at your Johnny Rockett's? Doesn't look like it. It looks like on vista you can actually go outside on the promenade deck. I like that. On the ships I've been on it's just been windows. On OOS it's just like being inside a shopping mall.

As far as on Oasis, Johnny Rockets is on the boardwalk, which does have a small aft ocean view, but it's also open air, shaded, and quite nice. You are very much stuck on the promenade, but that's just one of many neighborhoods. Don't most/many people like to get outside? That's the beauty of boardwalk and central park. Even enclosed, it's outside, fresh air, etc. Then a HUGE upper deck with nothing but ocean views and activities, bars, food, pools, sports, games, etc. When going outside, I actually found Oasis to have a much better view and felt less enclosed than Carnival ships.

I like the fun comparisons/debate. I like both lines. So don't take my comments as aggressive. It's all preference, it's cool. I'd like to try out a Seabourn soon. And by the way, one of our favorite activities is hanging out on the Rising Tide bar in the Promenade and joking about the people lining up in front of the stores... we don't get it, either. But you keep making the mall comparison, the promenade is no more a mall than the atrium. It's just a longer, more airy atrium without a ton of stairs.

I can agree here. I see both sides of the argument. Having sailed on Liberty of the seas and carnival, the difference in the outward viewing was noticeable to us. Although we haven't tried an oasis class ship, we will eventually.

Really what it boils down to is preference. It really is almost two different types of cruisers.

A few trees surrounded by 1,000 balconies doesn't do anything for me. Personal preference I guess. I have zero desire to try that ship. Probably why I'm on the CCL board and not the RCCL board.

Thousands of plants and trees....

Why so closed minded? I'm on both boards. We did Oasis and Glory last year. Loved both and will sail both again for sure.

Never said an Imax was cruising to me, although catching a movie on the TA when it was cold outside worked, but I would never go to the Imax in the Caribbean. As I said, different strokes for different folks, I'm not a fan of the Mega ships with their bells and whistles, doesn't make either one of us wrong.
