Adventure of the Seas March 3 -10 - some observations

Did you also have to order desserts at the same time as the starters and entrees?

There were a couple in our group that couldn't decide early on a couple of nights. They didn't have to get the menus back but they did wait until after the meal to make their decision.

Great post and responses.. I didn't see anyone mention or ask about the bars and lounges.. How were the crowd's, etc., at these? Did they look like they had enough staff/bartenders to keep the thirsty patrons happy? I read a few reviews that this wasn't the case and the bars had lines very deep and not enough bartenders to keep up with the demand - which equaled a very long time to wait for most.

Thanks!

Here's my experience with the bars. The bar we frequented most often was the Duck and Dog Pub. There was a good guitar player in there and we enjoyed going there to listen to him. It was usually full but never really overcrowded. The only time it was really crowded was during the parade. I wish they had had another bartender working in there. There were times when the service was slow. We normally love to spend time in the Schooner Bar on RCI ships. We have found the piano players there to be very good. The Schooner bar on the Adventure was terrible. I'm not sure when they added Chops Grille (or if it's always been there) but I don't remember it being there the last time we sailed on Adventure. Regardless, something has changed and it feels a lot smaller than what we remember. The Schooner Bar is now a major thoroughfare between the forward elevators and the casino. That narrow walkway is only a couple feet from the bar and all of the foot traffic gets bottlenecked trying to get through there. I think there we only 8 or 10 seats at the bar and if you weren't sitting in one of them, it was very difficult to get a drink in there. As I mentioned, we normally spend a lot of time in the Schooner Bar. On this particular cruise we only had one drink in there.

We had pre-dinner cocktails in either the Champagne Bar or the Blue Moon most nights. Neither of those were overcrowded and we never waited long for a drink. We also purchased a lot of drinks from the Pool Bar and the Sky Bar. There were times that they were a little crowded (sea days) but the wait never seemed overly long at either one of them. The only other bar we used on a regular basis was the bar in The Lyric Theater. We went to the show every night. Service there was very slow.

Thanks Ken. It seems like it's hit or miss - but it's nice to know it's not as bad as I heard it could or was.

We're considering a 6-night Western Caribbean on Adventure with our then teenage granddaughters in Apr 2020.. We'd also been considering a X cruise on Summit out of San Juan but there seems to be way more for them to on Adventure. I know it won't be quite as squeaky clean by then but we've always been OK with RCL in the past.

How is the food quality in the WJ and MDR compared to the newer Oasis Class Ships? Is it the same quality and variety?

It had been 5 years since my last RCCL cruise. I felt that the dining room food was better that I remember on AOS last week. Really all around very good.

I have never complained about food quality on RCI ships, I can always find something to enjoy. My complaint this time is the choices have been greatly reduced in the MDR. There are two or three selections that repeat every night and maybe three or four different items that change. IMHO the food tasted good but the selections were very limited in the MDR. I have no complaints with the offerings in the Windjammer. I have never been on an Oasis class ship so I can't compare with what they offer.
